Quotes for regrouting in St Quivox

Every job gets its own quote. These are the things that affect it:

  • The product the joint needs
  • The number of rooms or windows
  • How much old sealant there is and how hard it is to remove
  • The size of the job

A failed joint rarely gets cheaper to fix by waiting, as water and mould keep getting in. If you are unsure, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll give you an honest view and a quote.

What we need to know

What to tell us when you ask for a quote:

  • Pictures of the joints, sent by email
  • If someone has resealed it before
  • Where the job is, and your postcode
  • Roughly how big the job is

Every job is quoted individually, so start by telling us what you need. Simply drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and describe the job, and pictures are welcome.

Regrouting for homes and businesses in St Quivox

Before any work starts, the tiles are checked. Loose or hollow tiles are pointed out first, because regrouting will not fix what’s behind them. Where the tiles are sound, regrouting gives the area a new lease of life. Typical jobs include greasy, stained grout behind the hob and dirty, worn grout on a tiled floor, on wet rooms, kitchen splashbacks and shower walls.

In and around a place like St Quivox, homes range from older stone-built properties to newer houses. Older buildings can move a little, and that shows first in cracked grout and split sealant.

Your job is guaranteed for a year, as with all our work.

Your questions about regrouting in St Quivox

Do you work for landlords with property near Newton-On-Ayr station?

Yes, rental work is part of what we do. You can drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk with the address and a few details, and we’ll give you a fixed price before work begins.

Will you come out to St Quivox?

Yes, we do. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, from towns to the smallest places. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.

Do you regrout part of a bathroom, like the shower?

Yes. A lot of our jobs are only the shower, or just the joints that have failed.

Where do you work from?

We are a Crawley-based firm. We work across South East England, London and Scotland.

Do the sealants smell?

That depends on the sealant. Some smell for a while, some hardly at all.

Is it messy?

Tidy work is part of the job. We protect what’s around the joints, and the area is left clean when we finish.

What sealant do you use?

We choose the sealant for the joint, not the other way round. Where it moves, gets wet or faces the weather makes a difference, and we will explain our choice.

Do you do commercial work?

Yes, regularly. Larger jobs can be planned room by room or area by area to suit the site.

DIY versus a professional finish

The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. Silicone does not stick to old silicone, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. Everything old must be removed first.

If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.

What happens on the day

There’s no need to move everything out, just the space around the work. We protect the rest, and the job takes a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room for a typical job. For a place like St Quivox, longer drives are planned in advance. Tell us about tracks, gates, a ferry crossing or anything unusual about getting there.

  1. We start by checking the tiles for any that are loose or hollow.
  2. We rake out the old grout to an even depth, taking care of the tile edges.
  3. We vacuum the joints and clean out the dust.
  4. We fill the joints with new grout, then clean the tiles.
  5. We reseal the internal corners and edges with silicone.

Preparing for the visit

  • Mention any sign-in or site rules at work premises
  • Let us know about earlier repairs to the joints
  • For indoor joints, keep the area dry beforehand if you can

Why it’s worth doing now in St Quivox

It’s tempting to fill a few cracks yourself, but patched grout rarely matches the rest and the old grout carries on failing. Regrouting the whole area gives an even, lasting finish. In an older home around St Quivox, damp from a failed joint can get into timber and plaster, which is a far bigger job than the sealant.

The cost depends on how much there is to do, how hard the old material is to remove and access to the work. You’ll have a clear quote before any work starts, so you know where you stand.

Keeping the joints in good condition

No joint lasts for ever, but care makes a real difference. A few tips:

  • Run the extractor fan during and after a shower
  • Do not ignore a tile that feels loose
  • Avoid neat bleach and strong acid descalers on grout
  • Check the corner silicone every few months

Give the new grout the time we tell you before using the shower, so it cures fully. After that, rinse the tiles after showering and let the room air.

Tiles can come away if failed grout is left. Once that happens, regrouting will not fix it, so it’s worth acting early.

Different surfaces, different methods

Corners and edges

Edges are resealed while we are there, so everything is renewed at once.

Kitchen splashbacks

The grout by the hob and sink takes most of the mess. We regroute and reseal the worktop joint.

Regrouting around St Quivox

St Quivox is close to the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, which wears sealant and grout out faster than in a quiet home. In Scotland, private landlords have to meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping fixtures and fittings in reasonable repair. Tired, leaking sealant is worth putting right before a new tenant moves in.

Schools such as Prestwick Academy are buildings too, and we reseal washrooms and kitchens in schools and businesses as well as homes. Homes close to St Quivox Parish Church include some older properties, and timber floors under older bathrooms flex, so joints need a sealant that moves with them. Rented homes near Newton-On-Ayr station change hands often, and stained grout drags a rental down, and regrouting between lets puts that right.

St Quivox is about 2 miles south-east of Prestwick, in South Ayrshire. Every kind of property in St Quivox is covered for regrouting. The work is guaranteed for a year. St Quivox is one of 52 places in South Ayrshire where we work. We also work in Glasgow, around 28 miles away.

Further out, we also cover Ayr (3 miles south-west), Troon (6 miles north-west), Belmont (3 miles south-west), Forehill (3 miles south-west), Maybole (10 miles south-west) and Montgomerieston (3 miles south-west).

Around St Quivox

When it isn’t the sealant

In fairness, there are a few things sealant won’t fix:

  • A leaking wet room membrane
  • A structure that flexes behind the tiles
  • Cracked or broken tiles

If in doubt, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll say what we think.
