How we handle regrouting in Somerley
Stained, crumbling or cracked grout can make a sound bathroom look tired. Regrouting replaces the grout and keeps the tiles you have, so nothing is ripped out. If you’re dealing with grout in a colour the owner wants to change and discoloured grout on otherwise sound tiles, we can help.
For a small place like Somerley, regrouting is planned like any other job: the journey and access are simply agreed in advance. Once we are there, the bathroom or kitchen gets the same care as anywhere else.
We stand behind the work with a one-year guarantee, so you are not left on your own once the job is done.

What regrouting looks like in Somerley
Somerley is within about 2 miles of the coast. Coastal homes, holiday lets and guest houses can see heavy bathroom use in busy months, which wears sealant and grout out faster than in a quiet home. Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, which leaves limescale on sealant, grout and fittings, and it has to be cleaned off before new sealant goes in.
Schools such as Birdham CE Primary School are buildings too, and its toilets, changing areas and kitchens need their sealant renewed like any other building’s. Letting a property close to Fishbourne station? Then stained grout drags a rental down, and regrouting between lets puts that right.

What we’re called out for in Somerley
A poor original job is a common cause. Grout that was too wet, not packed in or cleaned off too hard can wash out within a few years.
Keep an eye out for any of the following:
- Greasy, stained grout behind the hob
- Grout in a colour the owner wants to change
- Dirty, worn grout on a tiled floor
- Gaps where the shower grout has gone
In the older streets around St James' Church, older homes can move a little, which is hard on rigid grout and tired sealant.
Questions to ask before you book
- Whether they seal over old material or remove it
- Are they insured?
- Which sealant they’ll use, and why
- How much experience the applicator has
What affects the cost of regrouting
We do not publish a price list, because jobs vary so much. What we look at:
- Any working-time requirements on site
- How many rooms, windows or areas are involved
- Mould in or behind the old joints
- The type of sealant required
No two jobs are quite the same, so each one gets its own quote. The number of joints, how easy they are to reach and the sealant needed all play a part, and we will explain the quote if you ask.
Asking for a quote
To make quoting easier, let us know:
- The type of property
- Pictures of the joints, sent by email
- The address or postcode of the job
- The rough size of the job
Asking for a quote is easy: let us know what needs doing and where. Photos by email help us understand the job.
Looking after it afterwards
To keep the joints looking good and working properly:
- Look at the sealant in the corners now and then
- Stick to mild products for cleaning grout
- Wipe or squeegee the shower walls
- Do not use strong acidic cleaners on grout
A squeegee or cloth over the tiles after use stops soap and water sitting on the grout. Ventilate the room well so the grout dries between uses.
Tiles can come away if failed grout is left. Once that happens, regrouting won’t fix it, so it’s worth acting early.
DIY versus a professional finish
Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and doesn’t move well, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.
The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. New silicone won’t bond to old, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. Everything old must be removed first.
