Shepway Regrouting
Our applicators work in Shepway on raking out old, cracked or stained grout and regrouting tiled walls and floors. Old material cut out, joints cleaned and sealed neatly.
- Old grout in a dated colour
- Grout that is cracking and breaking up
- Grout that stays dark however much it’s cleaned
Can I do it myself?
Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, such as a straightforward joint indoors. The common mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using far too much.
If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still put it right.
Regrouting in Shepway
Grout is the filler between your tiles, while sealant goes where tiles meet a bath, tray or worktop. When grout cracks or washes out, water has a way in behind the tiling. We rake it out and replace it and renew the silicone at the edges. Typical jobs include old grout in a dated colour and gaps where the shower grout has gone, across tiled floors, bathroom wall tiles and bathroom floors.
In and around Shepway, older properties sit alongside newer ones. Older homes can move a little with the seasons, which is hard on tired sealant and rigid grout.
Each job carries a 12-month guarantee, whatever its size.

How it works
Our applicators work methodically: protect, prepare, seal, tidy. Typically it takes anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area and we leave things clean and tidy. A visit to Shepway is planned like any other: the time, the access and where to park are agreed in advance. If the work is outside, the weather plays a part, as sealant needs a dry surface.
- Every tile area is checked for hollow or loose tiles first.
- We rake out the grout evenly, protecting the tile edges.
- We vacuum the joints so the new grout bonds.
- We regrout the joints and clean the tile faces.
- We finish with silicone in the moving joints.

Advice
Honest limits
Sealant isn’t the answer to every problem, and we’ll tell you before any work starts. It won’t solve:
- Loose tiles, which need refixing first
- A floor or wall that keeps moving
- Waterproofing that has failed below the tiling
If in doubt, phone 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and we will say what we think.

Keeping the joints in good condition
No joint lasts for ever, but care makes a real difference. Our tips:
- Do not use strong acidic cleaners on grout
- Stick to mild products for cleaning grout
- Look at the sealant in the corners now and then
- Rinse the tiles after showering
We’ll tell you when the area can be used again. Stick to that time, and avoid scrubbing the new grout hard for the first few days.
Grout that stays dark after cleaning is starting to fail. Regrouting at this stage is straightforward, before the joints open up.
Landlords, agents and businesses in Shepway
We regularly work with letting and managing agents. Tell us the address, the job and how access works and we will quote.

Different surfaces, different methods
Kitchen splashbacks
Splashback grout picks up grease and cooking stains. Once it’s stained, new grout is often the only fix.
Bathroom wall tiles
Whole bathroom walls can be regrouted in one visit or more, depending on size. It’s a good time to change the grout colour.
Regrouting in Shepway: local notes
Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, which leaves limescale on sealant, grout and fittings.
Rented homes near Maidstone West station change hands often, and stained grout drags a rental down, and regrouting between lets puts that right. Homes close to St Martin's Church include some older properties, and walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first.

Signs you need regrouting in Shepway
Most grout is porous, so it soaks up water, soap and dirt. Given time, it discolours and begins to break down, especially in a shower that is used every day.
Keep an eye out for any of the following:
- Gaps where the shower grout has gone
- Grout that makes sound tiles look old
- Floor grout that has worn and darkened
- Cracked grout along the bath or tray
Schools such as Greenfields Community Primary School are buildings too, and we reseal washrooms and kitchens in schools and businesses as well as homes.
