How we handle regrouting in Shader

Before work begins, the tiles are checked. If any tiles are loose or sound hollow, we tell you, since new grout cannot fix a problem underneath. With sound tiles, regrouting is a tidy, lasting improvement. We’re often asked to deal with grout in corners that has cracked and gaps where the shower grout has gone, across bathroom floors, shower walls and wet rooms.

Being further from a city does not change the work: everything old is cut out, the joints are cleaned and dried, and new sealant or grout goes in. The journey and access are simply planned in advance.

Big or small, you get the same 12-month guarantee.

Leave it or put it right?

Regrouting keeps the tiles you already have. Retiling is a much bigger job: stripping, making good, new tiles and new grout, and the room is out of use for longer. When the tiles are fine, it’s the sensible first step. In a place like Shader, small leaks are easy to put off, but water through a failed joint keeps working away until it’s fixed.

Some things make a job bigger or smaller: the old material and how easily it comes out, any mould to treat, and whether the work is at height. We take all of that into account in your quote.

Landlords, agents and businesses in Shader

Mouldy or split sealant often shows up at the end of a tenancy, and it’s quick to put right between tenancies. We can quote for more than one property at once.

For anyone letting property in or around Shader, jobs at different addresses can go on one quote. Send us the addresses and the work at each, and pictures by email help.

What we can’t put right

Honest advice matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what new sealant won’t do:

  • Tiles that are chipped or split
  • Loose tiles, which need refixing first
  • A leaking shower valve or waste

If you’re not sure, just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll give you a straight answer.

Joints and surfaces we work on

  • Bathroom floors
  • Wet rooms
  • Bathroom wall tiles
  • Kitchen splashbacks
  • Tiled floors
  • Shower walls

Keeping the joints in good condition

So the new joints stay in good condition:

  • Check the corner silicone every few months
  • Run the extractor fan during and after a shower
  • Use a soft brush rather than a wire one
  • Rinse soap off the tiles after each shower

Check the corner silicone now and then. Corners flex, so the sealant there will need renewing in time, long before the grout does.

Grout that stays dark after cleaning is starting to fail. At this point it’s a simple regrout while the tiles are still sound.

DIY versus a professional finish

If you’ve already had a go yourself, that’s fine. We cut it out and start again, so tell us about it when you ask for a quote.

If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.

Bathrooms and kitchens in Shader

Shader is close to the coast. Coastal homes, holiday lets and guest houses can see heavy bathroom use in busy months, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. Scotland’s water is generally soft, so sealant and grout see less limescale than in much of England. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that doesn’t dry out.

In and around Shader, as anywhere, good regrouting starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint. Whether the job is in Shader itself or nearby, the right material for each joint matters as much as a neat finish.

Common questions in Shader

Will you come out to Shader?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work across all of Scotland, including the islands, where work is planned around ferry crossings. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

Is regrouting in Shader guaranteed?

All our work, in Shader and everywhere else, comes with a 12-month guarantee. We’re also fully insured and ARBOMaster approved.

How long will you be here?

As a guide, most jobs take a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. Bigger jobs take longer, and we will tell you how long to expect.

Is there any odour?

There can be a smell while the sealant cures, which fades as it sets. Opening a window helps.

Is it worth trying it myself?

Some simple jobs can be done by a careful DIYer. Most DIY failures come from sealing over old material, wet joints or too much sealant.

Do you take out the old sealant first?

Always. Sealing over old sealant is the main reason resealing fails early, and it’s something we never do.

Can you do several jobs on one visit?

Yes, and it often makes sense. Combining jobs makes good use of the visit, so mention them when you ask for a quote.

What if some of my tiles are loose?

Tiles that have come away need sorting first. We will point them out at the start.

Quotes for regrouting in Shader

We quote each job individually. This is what makes a difference:

  • How many rooms, windows or areas are involved
  • The number and length of the joints
  • The product the joint needs
  • Working hours on commercial sites

The cost depends on the size of the job, how much old material has to come out and access to the work. We give a clear quote before any work starts, so you know where you stand.

Helping us quote

A few details help us give you an accurate quote. When you get in contact, it helps to mention:

  • The problem you’ve noticed
  • If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel
  • Where the job is, and your postcode
  • How we’d reach the joints

Need a quote? Please send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details. You will know what we plan to do, and what it will cost, before any work begins.

What we do, step by step

Before we leave, we go over the finished joints with you and tell you how long to leave it. The work normally takes anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area, depending on how much there is to do. Around Shader, distance and access matter more than parking. Let us know how to find you and how to reach the joints, and the visit is planned around that.

  1. We agree the area to be regrouted and point out any loose tiles.
  2. We remove the old grout carefully.
  3. Dust is cleared from every joint.
  4. The new grout goes in, then the tile faces are cleaned.
  5. We renew the silicone at the corners and edges.

Preparing for the visit

  • For business premises, tell us about site rules or sign-in
  • Mention any tricky access
  • Clear the area around the work
