Regrouting for Renton homes and businesses

Regrouting in Renton, done properly

Grout is the filler between your tiles, and sealant is what goes along the bath, tray or worktop. When grout cracks or washes out, water can get in behind the tiles. Our job is to rake it out and put new grout in and renew the silicone at the edges. We work on bathroom floors, shower walls and wet rooms, and common reasons people get in touch are gaps where the shower grout has gone and cracked grout along the bath or tray.

For a place like Renton, the job is the same as anywhere: everything old is cut out, the joints are cleaned and dried, and new sealant or grout goes in. We just plan the journey and access beforehand.

All of our work is guaranteed for twelve months.

How to look after the new joints

How long the joints last depends on use and care. We suggest:

  • Use a squeegee on the tiles after showering
  • Get any tile that moves checked promptly
  • Avoid neat bleach and strong acid descalers on grout
  • Use a soft brush rather than a wire one

Leave the area unused for as long as we advise, so it cures fully. After that, rinse the tiles after showering and keep the room ventilated.

Leaving failed grout can mean tiles come loose. Once that happens, regrouting will not fix it so early action pays.

How it works

There’s no need to move everything out before we come, only the area right around the joints. We protect the rest, and the work takes anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area in most cases. Around Renton, distance and access matter more than parking. Let us know how to find you and how to reach the joints, and the visit is planned around that.

  1. First, we check for loose or hollow tiles and point out any we find.
  2. We rake out the old grout to an even depth, taking care of the tile edges.
  3. The joints are vacuumed and cleaned.
  4. Fresh grout goes into the joints and the tile faces are wiped clean.
  5. Corners and edges are resealed with flexible silicone, not grout.

Preparing for the visit

  • Mention any tricky access
  • Tell us about any previous sealing or DIY attempts
  • Clear items away from the joints we’re working on

Regrouting in Renton: local notes

Renton is within about 3 miles of the coast. Coastal homes, holiday lets and guest houses can see heavy bathroom use in busy months, which wears sealant and grout out faster than in a quiet home. In Scotland, private landlords have to meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping fixtures and fittings in reasonable repair. Tired, leaking sealant is worth putting right before a new tenant moves in.

Rented homes near Renton station change hands often, and a regrout while the flat is empty is quicker than working around a tenant. Homes close to Millburn Church include some older properties, and timber floors under older bathrooms flex, so joints need a sealant that moves with them. Schools such as Vale of Leven Academy are buildings too, and its toilets, changing areas and kitchens need their sealant renewed like any other building’s.

How the job changes by surface

Kitchen splashbacks

We can regroute a splashback with the kitchen left in place. The worktop edge is finished with silicone.

Corners and edges

Where tiles meet a bath, tray or worktop, the joint is sealed. Grout in that joint wouldn’t last.

What affects the cost of regrouting

Call for a quick quote. The main things that affect it are:

  • The old material and how stubborn it is
  • Whether there’s mould to deal with
  • How many areas need sealing
  • The amount of work

Rather than a set price list, we look at what your job involves: how many joints, what’s in them now and how we reach them. The price is agreed before we begin.

Helping us quote

Photos help, but a description is a good start. Please mention:

  • Whether it’s a home or a business
  • How many joints, rooms or windows are involved
  • Any access issues, like height or stairs
  • What’s wrong with the joints now

Every job is quoted individually, so start by telling us what you need. Simply send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and describe the job.

What we cannot put right

We won’t take on work that won’t last, so here’s what sealant cannot put right:

  • Loose tiles, which need refixing first
  • A structure that flexes behind the tiles
  • A leaking shower valve or waste

If in doubt, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll say what we think.

Joints and surfaces we work on

  • Kitchen splashbacks
  • Bathroom wall tiles
  • Wet rooms
  • Bathroom floors
  • Tiled floors
  • Shower walls

What happens if it’s left?

Cleaning products may brighten grout for a time, but stains and mould that have soaked in tend to return. Replacing the grout and resealing the edges is a lasting fix. In an older home around Renton, damp from a failed joint can get into timber and plaster.

There are no prices on our website, because the cost depends so much on the job itself. Call for a quick quote.

Why Renton customers choose us

  • Arbo and Everbuild products
  • Over 20 years’ experience
  • We never seal over old sealant
  • We’re fully insured

Take a look at our cost guide and customer reviews.

Can I do it myself?

The difference is mostly in the preparation and the product. We take joints back to clean, dry surfaces, and the sealant is matched to the joint and its conditions.

Overfilling a joint is a classic DIY mistake. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and doesn’t move well, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.
