About our regrouting in Patching
Regrouting suits shower walls, bathroom floors, kitchen splashbacks and wet rooms. It can be a full room, or just the area that has failed. Either way, tiled areas in Patching are handled the same careful way. We work on tiled floors, bathroom floors and bathroom wall tiles, and people most often call us about gaps where the shower grout has gone and corners filled with grout instead of silicone.
Smaller places like Patching still have plenty of bathrooms that work hard every day. Whether it’s a cottage bathroom or a newer en suite, the approach is the same: old sealant or grout cut out, joints cleaned and dried, and a fresh finish laid.
Our work is backed for twelve months, in Patching and everywhere else we cover.

Why it’s worth doing now in Patching
Grouting over old grout rarely lasts. A thin skin on top tends to break off. Raking out to a consistent depth gives the new grout something to hold. In an older home around Patching, damp from a failed joint can get into timber and plaster, and that is a much bigger job than renewing the sealant.
Some things make a job bigger or smaller: the old material and how easily it comes out, whether mould needs treating, and whether we need extra access for height. We take all of that into account in your quote.

Keeping the joints in good condition
Good habits help new joints last longer. A few tips:
- Skip wire brushes and scourers
- Use gentle cleaners on grout
- Get any tile that moves checked promptly
- Keep harsh bleach and acid cleaners off the grout
Leave the area unused for as long as we advise, so it can harden properly. From then on, a quick rinse after showering helps and let the room air.
Grout that’s washing out of a shower shouldn’t be left. Every shower pushes more water into the gaps, and that water can reach the wall or the floor below.

Bathrooms and kitchens in Patching
Patching has hotels and guest accommodation nearby. As well as homes, we work in hotel bathrooms, where resealing and regrouting can be done room by room. Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, which leaves limescale on sealant, grout and fittings, and it has to be cleaned off before new sealant goes in.
Managing a site like St John Payne Catholic School? Then we reseal washrooms and kitchens in schools and businesses as well as homes. If you let a flat or house near Chelmsford station, a regrout while the flat is empty is quicker than working around a tenant.

Honest limits
Sealant isn’t the answer to every problem, and we’d rather say so up front. Sealant will not put right:
- Movement in a stud wall or floor
- Tiles that are loose or hollow behind
- Damaged tiles that need replacing
Not sure which it is? You can phone 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we’ll tell you honestly before booking.

How it works
All our tools and materials come with us in the van, so there’s nothing for you to buy. Once we have agreed what’s being done, we protect the area and start. Most jobs take anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area. A visit to Patching is planned like any other: the time, the access and where to park are agreed in advance. Outdoor jobs depend on a dry day, since sealant needs a dry surface.
- Every tile area is checked for hollow or loose tiles first.
- The old grout is removed to an even depth.
- The joints are vacuumed clean.
- New grout is pressed into the joints and the tiles are cleaned.
- We finish with silicone in the moving joints.
Getting ready for the visit
- Let us know about parking restrictions
- Mention any leaks or damp you’ve noticed

DIY versus a professional finish
The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. New silicone will not bond to old, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. Everything old must be removed first.
If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.
What the job involves on each surface
Bathroom wall tiles
Whole bathroom walls can be regrouted in one visit or more, depending on size. It’s a good time to change the grout colour.
Wet rooms
Wet room grout and sealant need to be in good order. We renew both.
