Old Deer Regrouting
Raking out old, cracked or stained grout and regrouting tiled walls and floors for homes and businesses in Old Deer and across Aberdeenshire. Fully insured, ARBOMaster approved and guaranteed for a year.
- Cracked grout along the bath or tray
- Discoloured grout on otherwise sound tiles
- Old grout in a dated colour
Regrouting in Old Deer, done properly
If you’ve been scrubbing grout that won’t come clean, the stain is often in the grout itself. Replacing it is the lasting answer and you can pick a different colour while you are at it. Common call-outs are for corners filled with grout instead of silicone and grout that makes sound tiles look old, on tiled floors, bathroom floors and bathroom wall tiles.
Being further from a city does not change the work: everything old is cut out, the joints are cleaned and dried, and new sealant or grout goes in. The journey and access are simply planned in advance.
You get a 12-month guarantee, the same in Old Deer as everywhere else we work.

What sealant work cannot fix
We will always be straight with you, so here’s what new sealant won’t do:
- Loose tiles, which need refixing first
- Water coming from plumbing rather than grout
- Damaged tiles that need replacing
If in doubt, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will say what we think.

How the visit works
We work through the job in order: protect, prepare, seal, tidy. For most jobs that takes anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area. Around Old Deer, distance and access matter more than parking. Tell us how to find the property and how to reach the work, and the visit is planned around that.
- We check the tiles for any that are hollow or loose.
- We rake out the grout evenly, protecting the tile edges.
- The joints are vacuumed clean.
- New grout is pressed into the joints and the tiles are cleaned.
- Silicone goes into the corners and along the edges.
Before we arrive
- Mention any tricky access
- Plan for the work area to be out of bounds to pets and children
- Let us know if you’ve seen damp or leaks

Keeping the joints in good condition
Joint life depends on how it’s used and looked after. Here’s what we suggest:
- Wipe water off the walls when you are done
- Do not use strong acidic cleaners on grout
- Rinse the tiles after showering
- Run the extractor fan during and after a shower
Give the new grout the time we tell you before using the shower, so it can harden properly. From then on, a quick rinse after showering helps and keep the room ventilated.
Once grout cracks, it tends to get worse. Water gets behind the tiles, and they can begin to come away and early regrouting can avoid a much bigger job.

What affects the quote in Old Deer
Call for a quick quote. What matters most is:
- Whether there’s mould to deal with
- Which sealant suits the joint
- How many rooms, windows or areas are involved
- Whether the work is at height
We don’t show prices on the website, because the cost depends so much on the job itself. Call for a quick quote.
Helping us quote
When you contact us, these details help:
- What’s wrong with the joints now
- The rough size of the job
- Whether it has been sealed before
- Any access issues, like height or stairs
Call for a quick quote, or email us if that is easier. Tell us about the joints that need doing and we will explain what’s involved and give you a clear quote.
What the job involves on each surface
Corners and edges
Corners flex as the building moves, so they get silicone, not grout.
Kitchen splashbacks
The grout by the hob and sink takes most of the mess. We renew the grout and the worktop sealant.
FAQs for Old Deer
Will you come out to Old Deer?
Yes, we do. We work across all of Scotland, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.
Do you cover Old Deer for regrouting?
Yes, Old Deer is within the area we cover. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. You can drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us what needs doing, and we’ll give you a clear quote.
Will you leave a mess?
Very little: the area around the joints is protected first, and we clear up the old sealant and our materials before we leave.
Do you hold any approvals?
Yes. We’re ARBOMaster approved, the scheme for applicators of Arbo sealants.
Will there be a smell?
There can be a smell while the sealant cures, which fades as it sets. Opening a window helps.
Do you work for landlords and businesses?
Yes. As well as householders, we work for landlords, agents, businesses and hotels across Aberdeenshire.
Is it OK to seal over old sealant?
No. Fresh sealant does not stick to old sealant, and it traps any mould or water underneath. It all has to come out first.
What guarantee comes with the work?
Our one-year guarantee covers every job, including regrouting.
Old Deer homes and their sealant
In Scotland, private landlords have to meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping fixtures and fittings in reasonable repair. Tired, leaking sealant is worth putting right before a new tenant moves in. Scottish Water supplies are generally soft, so limescale is less of a problem than in hard-water areas. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that doesn’t dry out.
In the older streets around St Drostan's Episcopal Church, walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first. If you look after a building such as Mintlaw Academy, washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes.

Around Old Deer
Typical jobs here are in homes near Aden Country Park and the streets around them. Well-known places in the area include Maud Hospital (3.2 miles west) and Aberdeenshire Farming Museum (within half a mile north-east). Open spaces near Old Deer include Skelmuir Hill and Pitfour Lake.
Leave it or put it right?
Regrouting will not help where tiles have come away. We will tell you before any work starts so you know what’s involved. Where the tiles are sound, regrouting is far less disruptive than retiling. Exposed walls in smaller Scottish places take a lot of wind and rain, and once water gets behind a failed joint, damp in stone or harled walls is slow to dry out.
A failed joint rarely gets cheaper to fix by waiting. If you’re unsure, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk for an honest opinion and a quote.
