Regrouting near New Forest

How we handle regrouting in New Forest

We take the old grout out to a consistent depth, taking care not to chip the tile edges. The joints are then vacuumed, regrouted and cleaned off, and the corners get fresh silicone. We’re often asked to deal with old grout in a dated colour and corners filled with grout instead of silicone, across bathroom floors, shower walls and kitchen splashbacks.

Around New Forest, it’s houses and cottages rather than flats. The work is the same as anywhere: old material cut out, joints cleaned and a fresh finish laid.

Big or small, it’s backed by our one-year guarantee.

What regrouting looks like in New Forest

Most of the South East has hard water, so limescale builds up on sealant, grout and fittings.

In and around New Forest, as anywhere, good regrouting starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint. If you live in an older home near Church of All Saints, walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first.

New Forest is in Hampshire. Anywhere in SP6, our applicators can take on regrouting. We cover 683 towns and villages across Hampshire. Our Southampton page covers work nearby.

How to look after the new joints

Simple care keeps the joints in good condition. We recommend:

  • Don’t ignore a tile that feels loose
  • Wipe or squeegee the shower walls
  • Clean with a soft brush, not anything metal
  • Keep harsh bleach and acid cleaners off the grout

Leave the area unused for as long as we advise, so it cures fully. From then on, a quick rinse after showering helps and keep the room ventilated.

Tiles can come away if failed grout is left. Once that happens, regrouting will not fix it, so it’s worth acting early.

What sealant work can’t fix

Before booking, it’s worth knowing the limits too:

  • Cracked or broken tiles
  • A floor or wall that keeps moving
  • Loose tiles, which need refixing first

If in doubt, phone 0345 464 0079 or email us and we will say what we think before booking.

Common questions in New Forest

Do you cover smaller places like New Forest?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work across London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

Do you cover New Forest for regrouting?

Yes. Our work covers London and the South East, and New Forest is part of that. Just call 0345 464 0079 or email us with a few details of the job.

Which products do you use?

Quality sealants from brands including Arbo and Everbuild, chosen to suit the joint. We explain the product when we quote.

Is it worth trying it myself?

Sometimes. The key is preparation: remove all the old material and work on a clean, dry joint. If it doesn’t work out, we can redo it.

Do you do commercial work?

Yes. We can plan bigger jobs in stages.

I rent my home. Can I book you?

We can work for tenants, landlords or agents. Just make sure your landlord agrees.

Do you guarantee regrouting?

Our 12-month guarantee applies to all our work. We are also fully insured.

Do I have to be there?

We need access to the joints, so we will agree that with you when we book. For inside work, that normally means someone being in.

What happens on the day

Most of a good job is in the preparation, so that’s where we spend the time. Every joint is cleaned and dried before new material goes in. In total, it normally takes a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room. In a small place like New Forest, access is generally the main thing to plan. If the job is outside, mention outbuildings, exposed walls and how to reach them.

  1. Every tile area is checked for hollow or loose tiles first.
  2. The old grout is removed to an even depth.
  3. The joints are vacuumed clean.
  4. We regrout the joints and clean the tile faces.
  5. We finish with silicone in the moving joints.

DIY sealant or a professional job?

The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. Silicone doesn’t stick to old silicone, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. All the old material has to come out first.

Overfilling a joint is a classic DIY mistake. A heavy bead looks messy and copes badly with movement, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.

Leave it or put it right?

Cleaning products may brighten grout for a time, but mould that has got into grout usually comes back. Replacing the grout and resealing the edges is a lasting fix. Where a wall is exposed, as many are in small places like New Forest, wind-driven rain gets into any failed joint, and damp in older walls is slow to dry out.

Rather than a set price list, we price the job in front of us: how many joints, what’s in them now and how we reach them. You will know the price before we begin.

Surface by surface

Shower walls

Shower walls get wet every day, so its grout takes the most punishment. It usually fails first.

Corners and edges

Where tiles meet a bath, tray or worktop, the joint is sealed. Grout in that joint wouldn’t last.
