Nettlestead questions

Is Nettlestead within the area you cover?

Yes, Nettlestead is covered. We work across London and the South East, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.

Can you do regrouting in Nettlestead?

Yes, Nettlestead is within the area we cover. We work across London and the South East. You can ring 0345 464 0079 or email us and let us know what needs doing.

What sealant do you use?

Quality sealants from brands including Arbo and Everbuild, chosen to suit the joint. We will tell you what we are using and why.

How long should I wait before showering?

It varies with the products and the room. We’ll give you a time to follow at the end of the visit.

Can new sealant go over the old?

No, because it fails. We remove every bit of old sealant first, so the new sealant bonds properly.

Is regrouting a chance to pick a new grout colour?

Yes. It’s the ideal time to change it. Mention the colour you have in mind when you ring 0345 464 0079 or email us.

Can you regrout if a few tiles are loose?

New grout can’t hold loose tiles in place. We flag any loose or hollow tiles before starting, so you can decide what to do.

Is there any odour?

Sometimes, a little. Any smell clears as the sealant cures, and ventilation helps.

Regrouting in Nettlestead, done properly

Grout is the filler between your tiles, and sealant is what goes along the bath, tray or worktop. Once grout starts to crack or wash away, water can get in behind the tiles. We rake it out and replace it and renew the silicone at the edges. If you have cracked grout along the bath or tray and cracked or crumbling grout lines, we can help, whatever the surface.

Somewhere as small as Nettlestead, homes tend to be cottages, farmhouses or converted buildings, with some newer houses too. Movement in older walls and floors tends to show first as cracked grout or split sealant.

We stand behind the work with a 12-month guarantee, so you are covered after we’ve gone.

Quotes for regrouting in Nettlestead

We quote each job individually. This is what makes a difference:

  • Which sealant suits the joint
  • How easy the joints are to reach
  • Any working-time requirements on site
  • The old material and how stubborn it is

A failed joint rarely gets cheaper to fix by waiting. If you’re not sure whether it needs doing, call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email for an honest opinion and a quote.

What to tell us for a quote

When you call or email, it’s useful to know:

  • Roughly how big the job is
  • Any access issues, like height or stairs
  • The type of property
  • Photos by email, if that’s easy

For a quick quote, get us on the phone, or email us if that is easier. Describe what needs sealing and we will talk you through the work and send you a clear quote.

What we do, step by step

When we get to you, we check the joints match what you told us. If anything is different, we explain it before carrying on. Most jobs then take a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. Somewhere as small as Nettlestead, access is often the only tricky part. If the job is outside, mention outbuildings, exposed walls and how to reach them.

  1. We start by checking the tiles for any that are loose or hollow.
  2. We rake out the old grout to an even depth, taking care of the tile edges.
  3. We vacuum the joints and clean out the dust.
  4. New grout is worked into the joints and cleaned off the tile faces.
  5. Corners and edges are resealed with flexible silicone, not grout.

Preparing for the visit

  • Tell us about any water getting in
  • Where the joints are inside, avoid wetting them before we arrive
  • Tell us about access, such as stairs, a lift or high-level joints

What we can’t put right

Before you book, it’s worth knowing the limits:

  • Tiles that have come away from the wall
  • Tiles that are chipped or split
  • Waterproofing that has failed below the tiling

If you’re not sure, just call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking.

What we seal

  • Bathroom floors
  • Tiled floors
  • Bathroom wall tiles
  • Wet rooms
  • Shower walls
  • Kitchen splashbacks

How to look after the new joints

How long the joints last depends on use and care. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Keep the fan on after showering
  • Avoid neat bleach and strong acid descalers on grout
  • Keep an eye on the silicone along the edges
  • Skip wire brushes and scourers

Leave the area unused for as long as we advise, so it cures fully. After that, rinse the tiles after showering and let the room air.

Fixing grout early is a small job. Left, the same problem can let water through so it’s worth dealing with as soon as you spot it.

Leave it or put it right?

Cleaning products may brighten grout for a time, but mould that has got into grout usually comes back. New grout, with silicone in the corners, deals with the cause. In a small place like Nettlestead, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.

What you pay reflects the work, not a rough estimate. That’s why we ask a few questions first and agree the price before starting.

What we’re called out for in Nettlestead

Most grout is porous, so it soaks up water, soap and dirt. Over time it stains, softens and starts to crumble, especially in a shower that is used every day.

Common reasons people contact us include:

  • Grout that stays dark however much it’s cleaned
  • Cracked grout along the bath or tray
  • Dirty, worn grout on a tiled floor
  • Kitchen splashback grout stained by grease

Schools such as Wateringbury Church of England Primary School are buildings too, and its toilets, changing areas and kitchens need their sealant renewed like any other building’s.

Questions to ask before you book

  • Is VAT in the price?
  • How the joint is cleaned and prepared
  • What happens if the job turns out different
  • Which colour the sealant will be

Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, so limescale builds up on sealant, grout and fittings, and it has to be cleaned off before new sealant goes in.

If you live in an older home near St Mary's Church, walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first. Rented homes near Wateringbury station change hands often, and clean grout and fresh sealant between tenancies make a bathroom look cared for again.

DIY sealant or a professional job?

Not every job suits DIY: work at height, external movement joints, fire-rated sealant and large areas need the right product, the right access and the right method.

The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. Silicone does not stick to old silicone, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. All the old material has to come out first.
