Need regrouting in Ness?

Regrouting for homes and businesses in Ness

A bathroom with good tiles can still look worn if the grout has gone. With regrouting, the tiles stay and only the grout is renewed, so there’s no stripping out and no new tiles to choose. We’re often asked to deal with grout that stays dark however much it’s cleaned and grout that’s cracking and breaking up, on tiled floors, shower walls and bathroom wall tiles.

Being further from a city doesn’t change the work: everything old is cut out, the joints are cleaned and dried, and new sealant or grout goes in. The journey and access are simply planned in advance.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. If there’s a problem with it, please email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Your questions about regrouting in Ness

Can you do regrouting in Ness?

Yes. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, and Ness is part of that. You can drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us what needs doing.

Is Ness within the area you cover?

Yes, Ness is covered. We work across all of Scotland, islands included, from towns to the smallest places. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.

Is there any odour?

Possibly a little. It fades as the sealant cures.

How long does regrouting take?

Most jobs take a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room, including the preparation. Your quote will say how long we expect yours to take.

What do you put in the joint?

Quality sealants from brands including Arbo and Everbuild, chosen to suit the joint. We explain the product when we quote.

Do you grout the corners?

Silicone. Grout is for the joints between tiles and moving joints need sealant.

Could my grout be a different colour after regrouting?

Yes, plenty of people choose to. A darker grout hides marks better and lighter grout gives a fresher look.

Can you quote for more than one area?

Yes, and it often makes sense. Combining jobs makes good use of the visit.

What happens on the day

At the end, we look at the finished work together and tell you how long to leave it. The work normally takes a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room, depending on the size of the job. Somewhere like Ness may be a longer drive, and the journey is planned ahead. Tell us about tracks, gates, a ferry crossing or anything unusual about getting there.

  1. First we agree what’s being done and flag any loose tiles.
  2. Grout is raked out without chipping the tiles.
  3. Dust is cleared from every joint.
  4. The new grout goes in, then the tile faces are cleaned.
  5. We renew the silicone at the corners and edges.

Preparing for the visit

  • Mention any parking rules near the property
  • Keep pets and children clear of the area while we work
  • For indoor joints, keep the area dry beforehand if you can

What we are called out for in Ness

Poor ventilation keeps grout damp, and damp grout is where mould grows. When black spots keep returning, the mould has generally got into the grout.

Any of these means the joints need attention:

  • Grout in a colour the owner wants to change
  • Grout that makes sound tiles look old
  • Grout washed out of a shower
  • Grout stained black or orange that won’t clean

Whether the job is in Ness itself or nearby, the right material for each joint matters as much as a neat finish.

What to look for in a quote

  • How the joint is cleaned and prepared
  • Are they insured?
  • Is the old sealant removed completely?
  • When the joint can take water or movement

Regrouting in Ness: local notes

Ness is close to the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, which wears sealant and grout out faster than in a quiet home. In Scotland, private landlords have to meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping fixtures and fittings in reasonable repair. Failed sealant around a bath or shower is worth sorting between tenancies.

Around Ness, as everywhere, regrouting is only as good as the preparation behind it.

Landlord and commercial work in Ness

Failed sealant is one of the commonest items on a check-out report. We can quote for more than one property at once.

Water getting past a failed joint can damage the building, which matters even more when someone else lives there. Keeping joints in good order is simple maintenance that we can handle for you.

How we quote for regrouting

The quote reflects the job in front of us. We look at:

  • Working hours on commercial sites
  • Any mould that needs treating
  • The number and length of the joints
  • The number of rooms or windows

Some things make a job bigger or smaller: how much old sealant there is and how stubborn it is, whether mould needs treating, and whether we need extra access for height. Your quote takes all of that into account.

What we need to know

The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote. When you get in contact, it helps to mention:

  • Where the property is
  • If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel
  • The rough size of the job
  • A few photos by email, if you can

Call for a quick quote, or send an email if you’d rather. Tell us about the joints that need doing and we’ll talk you through the work and send you a clear quote.

DIY sealant or a professional job?

If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.

If you’ve already had a go yourself, that’s fine. We remove it and do the joint properly, so just mention it when you contact us.

How to look after the new joints

So the new joints stay in good condition:

  • Don’t ignore a tile that feels loose
  • Use a squeegee on the tiles after showering
  • Give the walls a quick rinse after use
  • Check the corner silicone every few months

Clean the grout with a mild bathroom cleaner with a soft brush. Keep harsh bleach and acid limescale removers away from it because they wear grout away.

Once grout cracks, it tends to get worse. Water gets behind the tiles, and they can begin to come away, so regrouting early can save a retile.

What the job involves on each surface

Bathroom wall tiles

Walls outside the shower get less water but grout there still discolours. New grout freshens them up.

Wet rooms

Both the grout and the silicone in a wet room matter. We replace the grout and reseal the edges.
