Trusted regrouting in Highmoor

Regrouting for homes and businesses in Highmoor

Our applicators rake out the old grout to an even depth, without damaging the edges of the tiles. After vacuuming, new grout goes in and the tiles are wiped clean, with silicone renewed in the corners. We’re often asked to deal with grout in a colour the owner wants to change and corners filled with grout instead of silicone, across tiled floors, wet rooms and kitchen splashbacks.

Somewhere as small as Highmoor, homes tend to be cottages, farmhouses or converted buildings, with some newer houses too. Older walls and timber floors can move a little, and cracked grout and split sealant are often the first signs.

Our work is backed for twelve months, in Highmoor and everywhere else we cover.

Leave it or put it right?

Grout pens and paint-on colourants only cover the surface. They will not fill gaps or keep water out, and stains can show through again. A proper regrout puts new grout in the joint. Older cottages and farmhouses around Highmoor can have timber floors and frames, where water from a failed joint can cause rot if it’s left.

Homes and businesses are quoted the same way: the amount of work, the access and the products needed. Ask us for a quote and we’ll explain what it covers.

Surface by surface

Corners and edges

Internal corners move, so they get silicone, not grout.

Kitchen splashbacks

Splashback grout picks up grease and cooking stains. Once it’s stained, new grout is often the only fix.

DIY sealant or a professional job?

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. New silicone won’t bond to old, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. Everything old must be removed first.

Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and doesn’t move well, and the joint depth matters as much as the finish.

How the visit works

A visit follows a simple pattern: we check the joints, mask and protect the surrounding surfaces, carry out the job and tidy away. It generally takes anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area. Somewhere as small as Highmoor, access is often the only tricky part. For outside work, also let us know about exposed walls and any outbuildings involved.

  1. First, we check for loose or hollow tiles and point out any we find.
  2. We rake out the old grout to an even depth, taking care of the tile edges.
  3. The joints are vacuumed and cleaned.
  4. New grout is worked into the joints and cleaned off the tile faces.
  5. The corners and edges get new silicone, because grout there would crack.

Before we arrive

  • Mention if the joints have been sealed before
  • Mention any sign-in or site rules at work premises
  • Keep pets and children clear of the area while we work

When something else is needed

Some problems need a builder, plumber or other trade rather than us:

  • A structure that flexes behind the tiles
  • Loose tiles, which need refixing first
  • Leaks from pipes, valves or wastes (a plumber’s job)

Not sure which it is? You can phone 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we’ll tell you honestly.

Regrouting around Highmoor

Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, which leaves limescale on sealant, grout and fittings. Highmoor has hotels and guest accommodation nearby. As well as homes, we work in hotel bathrooms, where resealing and regrouting can be done room by room.

If you live in an older home near Church of St Paul, walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first. If you look after a building such as Stoke Row Church of England School, its toilets, changing areas and kitchens need their sealant renewed like any other building’s.

When to call us in Highmoor

Some grout fails because it was mixed or laid badly. Grout that was too wet, not packed in or cleaned off too hard tends to wash out early.

Common reasons people contact us include:

  • Cracked or crumbling grout lines
  • A grout colour that no longer suits the room
  • Grout that makes sound tiles look old
  • Greasy, stained grout behind the hob

Letting a property close to Henley-On-Thames station? Then stained grout drags a rental down, and regrouting between lets puts that right.

Questions from Highmoor

I let a flat near Henley-On-Thames station. Can you help?

Yes. We work for landlords and agents as well as householders, and several properties can go on one quote. Just call 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email with the address and what needs doing, and we’ll give you a clear quote.

Do you work for hotels and guest houses in Highmoor?

Yes. Hotel and guest-house work is part of what we do. Jobs can be programmed room by room, with out-of-hours working possible to arrange.

Is resealing included with regrouting?

Normally we do both. Grout and sealant do different jobs, so both are renewed and it’s all in the quote.

Is it OK to seal over old sealant?

No. Fresh sealant doesn’t stick to old sealant, and anything trapped underneath, including mould and water, stays there. We remove it all first.

Can you regrout just the shower?

Yes. A lot of our jobs are only the shower, or the area where the grout has gone.

What guarantee comes with the work?

Our one-year guarantee applies to all our work, and we are fully insured.

Do the sealants smell?

There can be a smell while the sealant cures, but it fades. Opening a window helps.

Will regrouting fix loose tiles?

Loose or hollow tiles are a sign of a problem behind them. Grout on its own will not fix that and we will say so before going ahead.
