Herne Common Regrouting
We cover Herne Common for raking out old, cracked or stained grout and regrouting tiled walls and floors. Old material cut out, joints cleaned and sealed neatly and a 12-month guarantee.
- Floor grout that has worn and darkened
- Grout that makes sound tiles look old
- Grout stained black or orange that will not clean
Common problems we fix in Herne Common
Movement behind the tiles cracks grout. That can be a loose tile, a flexing floor or a stud wall, so we check the tiles before any work starts.
It’s worth asking for a quote if you see:
- Crumbling grout between the tiles
- Kitchen splashback grout stained by grease
- Grout that stays dark however much it’s cleaned
- Gaps where the shower grout has gone
If you live in an older home near Church of St Martin, timber floors under older bathrooms flex, so joints need a sealant that moves with them.

Regrouting for homes and businesses in Herne Common
We regroute showers, bathroom walls and floors, splashbacks and wet rooms. It can be a full room, others just the shower. Whatever the size, the method stays the same. If you have crumbling grout between the tiles and corners filled with grout instead of silicone, we can put it right, on wet rooms, bathroom wall tiles and kitchen splashbacks alike.
Around Herne Common, it’s houses and cottages rather than flats, some with bathrooms tucked into older rooms or extensions. Sealant and grout wear out here just as they do anywhere: everything old comes out before the new sealant or grout goes in.
We guarantee the work for a year. If something isn’t right with it in that time, tell us and we will put it right.

Why act early in Herne Common
Once grout cracks, water can get behind the tiling. Left alone, that water can loosen tiles or damage the wall, and then you’re looking at retiling. Sorting it early keeps the job simple. In a small place like Herne Common, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.
Some things make a job bigger or smaller: the old material and how easily it comes out, any mould to treat, and whether we need extra access for height. We take all of that into account in your quote.

Regrouting around Herne Common
Herne Common is within about 3 miles of the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, which leaves limescale on sealant, grout and fittings.
If you look after a building such as Herne Church of England Infant School, we reseal washrooms and kitchens in schools and businesses as well as homes. Letting a property close to Herne Bay station? Then stained grout drags a rental down, and regrouting between lets puts that right.

What we do, step by step
Before we leave, we go over the finished joints with you and tell you how long to leave it. The work normally takes anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area, depending on the size of the job. For a village or hamlet like Herne Common, the journey is planned in advance: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. Everything for the job comes with us, so a second trip is avoided where possible.
- Every tile area is checked for hollow or loose tiles first.
- The old grout is removed to an even depth.
- We vacuum the joints so the new grout bonds.
- New grout is pressed into the joints and the tiles are cleaned.
- We finish with silicone in the moving joints.
Getting ready for the visit
- Mention any parking rules near the property
- Mention if the joints have been sealed before
- Keep children and pets away from the work area

Related advice
Can I do it myself?
The difference is mostly in the preparation and the product. Joints are cleaned back to sound surfaces and dried, and the sealant is chosen for how the joint moves and where it is, then guaranteed for a year.
The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. New silicone will not bond to old, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. Everything old must be removed first.
Keeping the joints in good condition
No joint lasts for ever, but care makes a real difference. A few tips:
- Give the walls a quick rinse after use
- Open a window or run the fan to clear steam
- Don’t use strong acidic cleaners on grout
- Use a soft brush rather than a wire one
Use a gentle cleaner on the grout with a soft brush. Keep harsh bleach and acid limescale removers away from it because they wear grout away.
Small problems with grout are quick to put right. Left for a few years, they can become a leak so it’s worth dealing with as soon as you spot it.
What sealant work can’t fix
A few problems are outside what sealant work can do:
- A leaking shower valve or waste
- A leaking wet room membrane
- A structure that flexes behind the tiles
If in doubt, call 0345 464 0079 or email us and we’ll say what we think.
