Need regrouting in Hale?

What affects the cost of regrouting

Jobs vary more than people expect. The main factors:

  • When we can work, for business premises
  • The type of sealant required
  • How much old sealant there is and how hard it is to remove
  • How easy the joints are to reach

Some things make a job bigger or smaller: how much old sealant there is and how stubborn it is, whether mould needs treating, and whether we need extra access for height. Your quote takes all of that into account.

What to tell us for a quote

To make quoting easier, please include:

  • If someone has resealed it before
  • What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking
  • Access, such as stairs, a lift or height
  • Whether it’s a home or a business

A good description makes for an accurate quote. Tell us where the job is, what’s wrong and how much there is.

How we handle regrouting in Hale

Grout fills the gaps between tiles, and sealant is what goes along the bath, tray or worktop. Once grout starts to crack or wash away, water has a way in behind the tiling. We rake it out and replace it, then reseal the corners and edges. If you’re dealing with corners filled with grout instead of silicone and floor grout that won’t come clean, we can put it right.

Homes around Hale are mostly houses and cottages rather than flats. The work is the same as anywhere: old material cut out, joints cleaned and a fresh finish laid.

Your job is guaranteed for a year, as with all our work.

Aftercare tips

How long the joints last depends on use and care. We suggest:

  • Get any tile that moves checked promptly
  • Use gentle cleaners on grout
  • Keep harsh bleach and acid cleaners off the grout
  • Give the walls a quick rinse after use

Have any tile that moves checked straight away. Movement will crack the new grout and open a path for water.

Grout that stays dark after cleaning is starting to fail. Regrouting at this stage is straightforward, before the joints open up.

What we cannot put right

New sealant can’t fix everything, and we’d rather say so up front. Sealant will not put right:

  • A structure that flexes behind the tiles
  • Water coming from plumbing rather than grout
  • Failed tanking or waterproofing under the tiles

If in doubt, call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and we’ll say what we think before you book.

What we seal

  • Shower walls
  • Wet rooms
  • Bathroom floors
  • Bathroom wall tiles
  • Tiled floors
  • Kitchen splashbacks

Can I do it myself?

Some jobs are best left to a professional: work at height, external movement joints, fire-rated sealant and large areas call for the right materials, safe access and experience.

Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and does not move well, and the joint depth matters as much as the finish.

How the visit works

Once we are on site, we check the joints match what you told us. If we find something unexpected, we talk it through with you first. After that, the work takes anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area. Somewhere as small as Hale, access is often the only tricky part. For outside work, also let us know about exposed walls and any outbuildings involved.

  1. We agree the area to be regrouted and point out any loose tiles.
  2. We remove the old grout carefully.
  3. Dust is cleared from every joint.
  4. The new grout goes in, then the tile faces are cleaned.
  5. We renew the silicone at the corners and edges.

Before we arrive

  • Tell us about any water getting in
  • Where the joints are inside, avoid wetting them before we arrive
  • Move anything stored near the joints

Hale: your questions answered

Do you cover smaller places like Hale?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Our work covers London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

Is Hale in your area for regrouting?

Yes, Hale is within the area we cover. We work across London and the South East. You can ring 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and tell us what needs doing.

Do you reseal at the same time?

We generally do. Fresh grout next to old, mouldy silicone would look odd and wouldn’t keep water out.

Can you regrout just the shower?

We can. We’ll look at the rest of the room too and tell you if anything else needs attention.

What guarantee comes with the work?

Every job comes with our 12-month guarantee, and we’re fully insured.

Could my grout be a different colour after regrouting?

It can. With the old grout removed, the new colour fills the whole joint, not just the surface.

Do I have to be there?

That depends on where the joints are. For work indoors, someone needs to let us in.

Is it messy?

Not at all. We work neatly, protect the area around the joints and tidy up afterwards.

Hale homes and their sealant

Most of the South East has hard water, which leaves limescale on sealant, grout and fittings.

For an older house near a landmark such as Church of St Mary, walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first.

Why deal with it now?

With regrouting, your tiles stay where they are. Retiling means stripping the walls, making good and choosing new tiles, and often a few days without a shower. When the tiles are fine, it’s the sensible first step. Older cottages and farmhouses around Hale can have timber floors and frames, and water through a failed joint can rot timber if it’s left.

Instead of a standard rate, we look at what your job involves: the amount of work, the old material and the access. You will know the price before we begin.

What we are called out for in Hale

Soap scum and limescale build up on grout that is hard to shift. The grout beneath can stain and weaken, which is when replacing it makes sense.

Keep an eye out for these signs:

  • Dirty, worn grout on a tiled floor
  • Grout washed out of a shower
  • Grout in corners that has cracked
  • Cracked or crumbling grout lines

If you look after a building such as Hale Primary School, its toilets, changing areas and kitchens need their sealant renewed like any other building’s.
