About our regrouting in Greenhithe

Regrouting is usually paired with resealing. Grout belongs between tiles, but corners and edges move, so they’re sealed with silicone rather than grout. Doing both at once leaves the whole area sound. We work on wet rooms, shower walls and tiled floors, and common reasons people get in touch are corners filled with grout instead of silicone and floor grout that has worn and darkened.

In a smaller place like Greenhithe, homes are mostly houses and bungalows rather than flats, from older cottages to newer builds. Sealant and grout wear out here just as they do in a big town.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. If there’s a problem with it, please call 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email.

What affects the cost of regrouting

Call for a quick quote. What matters most is:

  • How much there is to do
  • Which sealant suits the joint
  • When we can work, for business premises
  • Whether there’s mould to deal with

We do not show prices on the website, because the cost depends so much on the job itself. For a quick quote, please phone 0345 464 0079 or send us an email.

What we need to know

What to tell us when you ask for a quote:

  • Where the property is
  • What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking
  • Roughly how big the job is
  • If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel

If you’re in Greenhithe and need regrouting, ring 0345 464 0079 or email us. Tell us what the problem is and where, and you will get a clear quote before any work starts.

What we do, step by step

When we arrive, we look over the joints with you first, so there are no surprises. Surfaces next to the work are protected before any work begins. Most jobs take a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. Parking around Greenhithe is normally easier than in a town centre, but mention any lanes, gates or long drives. If the job is outside, tell us about side access and how high the joints are.

  1. We start by checking the tiles for any that are loose or hollow.
  2. The old grout comes out to a consistent depth, without damaging the tiles.
  3. Dust and debris are vacuumed out of every joint.
  4. Fresh grout goes into the joints and the tile faces are wiped clean.
  5. Corners and edges are resealed with flexible silicone, not grout.

How to prepare

  • Clear the area around the work
  • On commercial sites, let us know about site rules
  • Mention any tricky access

Advice

What we cannot put right

Some problems need a builder, plumber or other trade rather than us:

  • Leaks from pipes, valves or wastes (a plumber’s job)
  • A floor or wall that keeps moving
  • Tiles that are chipped or split

Not sure which it is? You can call 0345 464 0079 or email us and we’ll tell you honestly.

What we seal

  • Bathroom floors
  • Shower walls
  • Tiled floors
  • Kitchen splashbacks
  • Wet rooms
  • Bathroom wall tiles

DIY versus a professional finish

The difference is mostly in the preparation and the product. We take joints back to clean, dry surfaces, and the sealant is chosen for how the joint moves and where it is.

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. Silicone does not stick to old silicone, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. Everything old must be removed first.

Do you need regrouting in Greenhithe?

Soap scum and limescale build up on grout and stick to it. The grout beneath can stain and weaken, and at that point, new grout is the better answer.

The problems people generally mention when they call include:

  • Grout stained black or orange that will not clean
  • Grout in corners that has cracked
  • Dirty, worn grout on a tiled floor
  • Grout in a colour the owner wants to change

Schools such as Knockhall Primary School are buildings too, and washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes.

Questions to ask before you book

  • Whether VAT is included
  • How long the guarantee is
  • Is the old sealant removed completely?
  • Are they insured?

Our hiring checklist

Looking after it afterwards

Looking after new joints is easy, and it makes a real difference:

  • Rinse the tiles after showering
  • Use a squeegee on the tiles after showering
  • Use gentle cleaners on grout
  • Skip wire brushes and scourers

Keep an eye on the silicone in the corners. Corners flex, so the sealant there will need renewing in time.

Stains that won’t clean are a sign the grout is breaking down. At this point it’s a simple regrout, before the joints open up.

Work for landlords, hotels and businesses

For anyone letting property in or around Greenhithe, jobs at different addresses can be quoted together. Just tell us the addresses and what each one needs, and photos by email help.

In hotels, rooms out of use cost money, so the work can be planned room by room. Hotel work is part of what we do, alongside homes and businesses.

Bathrooms and kitchens in Greenhithe

Most of the South East has hard water, which leaves limescale on sealant, grout and fittings.

Homes close to Church of St Mary include some older properties, and timber floors under older bathrooms flex, so joints need a sealant that moves with them. For landlords with property near Greenhithe for Bluewater station, a regrout while the flat is empty is quicker than working around a tenant.
