How we handle regrouting in Green Cross
Stained, crumbling or cracked grout can make a sound bathroom look tired. Regrouting replaces the grout and keeps the tiles you have, so nothing is ripped out. If you are dealing with grout in a colour the owner wants to change and floor grout that has worn and darkened, we can put it right.
For a small place like Green Cross, regrouting is planned like any other job: it just means planning the journey and access beforehand. Once we’re there, the bathroom or kitchen gets the same care as anywhere else.
We stand behind the work with a 12-month guarantee, so you are covered after we have gone.

Businesses can book us for washrooms, kitchens, offices and more. On commercial sites, working times can be discussed when we quote.
Letting agents and landlords in Green Cross can book us as well as householders. Sealant work between tenants is a simple way to keep a property in good order before the next move-in.
Bathrooms and kitchens in Green Cross
Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, so limescale builds up on sealant, grout and fittings.
Letting a property close to Haslemere station? Then stained grout drags a rental down, and regrouting between lets puts that right. If you look after a building such as St John's CofE Aided Infant School, washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes.

Leave it or put it right?
Once grout cracks, water can get behind the tiling. Leave it, and the adhesive or the wall behind can suffer, and then you’re looking at retiling. Sorting it early keeps the job simple. Older cottages and farmhouses around Green Cross can have timber floors and frames, and water through a failed joint can rot timber if it’s left.
What it costs depends on how much there is to do, how much old material has to come out and access to the work. We give a clear quote before any work starts, so you know where you stand.

What else we do in Green Cross
What we do, step by step
Before we leave, we go over the finished joints with you and explain the cure time. The work normally takes a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room, depending on the amount of work. Somewhere like Green Cross needs a little journey planning: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. Everything for the job comes with us, so a second trip is avoided where possible.
- First, we check for loose or hollow tiles and point out any we find.
- We rake out the old grout to an even depth, taking care of the tile edges.
- The joints are vacuumed and cleaned.
- Fresh grout goes into the joints and the tile faces are wiped clean.
- Corners and edges are resealed with flexible silicone, not grout.
Preparing for the visit
- Keep pets and children clear of the area while we work
- Tell us if parking is tricky
- Tell us about any water getting in
Getting a quote
The more we know about the job, the more useful the quote. Tell us where the job is, what’s wrong and how much there is.
Related advice
Should I try it myself first?
Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, such as a straightforward joint indoors. Where it goes wrong is sealing over the old bead, working on a wet joint or overloading the gap.
If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.
Honest limits
We will always be straight with you, so here’s what new sealant will not do:
- A leaking wet room membrane
- Movement in a stud wall or floor
- A leaking shower valve or waste
If you’re not sure, just phone 0345 464 0079 or email us and we’ll give you a straight answer.
What we seal
- Wet rooms
- Bathroom wall tiles
- Shower walls
- Kitchen splashbacks
- Tiled floors
- Bathroom floors
Keeping the joints in good condition
To keep the joints looking good and working properly:
- Check the corner silicone every few months
- Do not ignore a tile that feels loose
- Use a soft brush rather than a wire one
- Rinse soap off the tiles after each shower
Keep an eye on the silicone in the corners. Corners flex, so it’s normally the first thing to need attention, long before the grout does.
If grout in the shower is washing out, act soon. Each shower drives water into the open joints, and that water can reach the wall or the floor below.
What we’re called out for in Green Cross
Strong cleaning products and hard scrubbing slowly erode grout. Some bleaches and acid descalers break grout down over time, leaving the joints sunken and rough.
Look out for these signs:
- A grout colour that no longer suits the room
- Grout that stays dark however much it’s cleaned
- Discoloured grout on otherwise sound tiles
- Kitchen splashback grout stained by grease
For an older house near a landmark such as St John the Evangelist, walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first.
What to look for in a quote
- When the joint can take water or movement
- What product goes in the joint
- The length of the guarantee
- Whether you can choose the colour
