- Grout in corners that has cracked
What we do, step by step
Most of a good job is in the preparation, so that is where we spend the time. Every joint is cleaned and dried before new material goes in. All told, the work takes a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. In a small place like Gosport, access is generally the main thing to plan. If the job is outside, mention outbuildings, exposed walls and how to reach them.
- We agree the area to be regrouted and point out any loose tiles.
- Grout is raked out without chipping the tiles.
- The joints are cleaned out and vacuumed.
- We grout the joints and wipe the tiles clean.
- Internal corners and edges are resealed.
How to prepare
- Mention if the joints have been sealed before
- Mention any tricky access
- Mention any leaks or damp you’ve noticed

Advice
How we handle regrouting in Gosport
We regroute showers, bathroom walls and floors, splashbacks and wet rooms. It can be a full room, others just the shower. Either way, tiled areas in Gosport are handled the same careful way. If you are dealing with grout in a colour the owner wants to change and corners filled with grout instead of silicone, we can help.
Somewhere as small as Gosport, homes tend to be cottages, farmhouses or converted buildings, with some newer houses too. Movement in older walls and floors tends to show first as cracked grout or split sealant.
You are covered for a year from the day we finish. If anything isn’t right with it, phone 0345 464 0079 or send us an email.

How to look after the new joints
A little care helps the new joints last. Our advice:
- Keep the fan on after showering
- Look at the sealant in the corners now and then
- Wipe or squeegee the shower walls
- Rinse soap off the tiles after each shower
Before we leave, you’ll know when the shower can be used. Stick to that time, and go gently on the grout at first.
Cracked grout doesn’t stay cracked for long. Water gets behind the tiles, and they can begin to come away, so regrouting early can save a retile.
Why it’s worth doing now in Gosport
New grout smeared over the old does not bond well. A thin skin on top tends to break off. Raking out to a consistent depth gives the new grout something to hold. Older cottages and farmhouses around Gosport can have timber floors and frames, and water through a failed joint can rot timber if it’s left.
A few things move the cost up or down: the old material and how easily it comes out, any mould to treat, and whether the work is at height. Your quote takes all of that into account.

Common questions in Gosport
Do you work for landlords with property near Chandlers Ford station?
Yes. We work for landlords and agents as well as householders, and several properties can be quoted together. Just ring 0345 464 0079 or email us with the address and what needs doing, and we’ll give you a clear quote.
Will you come out to Gosport?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Our work covers London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.
Do you remove the old sealant?
Yes, always, and completely. New sealant will not bond properly to old, so any old material comes out before anything new goes in.
Should corners be grouted or sealed?
Internal corners and edges are sealed with flexible silicone. Grout in a moving joint soon cracks.
Can you regrout if a few tiles are loose?
Loose or hollow tiles are a sign of a problem behind them. Grout on its own won’t fix that, and we will tell you before work begins.
Will there be a smell?
Possibly a little. It fades as the sealant cures.
Does someone need to be in?
We need access to the joints, so we will agree that with you when we book. Indoors, that normally means someone at home.
Are you ARBOMaster approved?
Yes. We’re ARBOMaster approved, the scheme for applicators of Arbo sealants.
When something else is needed
We will not take on work that will not last, so these are the limits:
- Waterproofing that has failed below the tiling
- A leaking shower valve or waste
- Loose tiles, which need refixing first
If in doubt, call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and we’ll say what we think before you book.
What we seal
- Tiled floors
- Bathroom wall tiles
- Kitchen splashbacks
- Wet rooms
- Bathroom floors
- Shower walls
What the job involves on each surface
Shower walls
The grout in a shower takes the brunt of the water. We rake it out and regrout, and reseal the corners.
Wet rooms
Wet room grout and sealant need to be in good order. We replace the grout and reseal the edges.
Signs you need regrouting in Gosport
When tiles or the wall behind them move, the grout cracks. That can be a loose tile, a flexing floor or a stud wall, which is why we check the tiles first.
Look out for these signs:
- A grout colour that no longer suits the room
- Good tiles let down by tired grout
- Floor grout that will not come clean
- Splashback grout that has darkened
For landlords with property near Chandlers Ford station, a regrout while the flat is empty is quicker than working around a tenant.

Regrouting around Gosport
Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, which leaves limescale on sealant, grout and fittings, and it has to be cleaned off before new sealant goes in.
If you live in an older home near Church of St Mark, bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant. Schools such as Ampfield Church of England Primary School are buildings too, and washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes.

DIY versus a professional finish
Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. Silicone does not stick to old silicone, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. Everything old must be removed first.
Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A heavy bead looks messy and copes badly with movement, and the joint depth matters as much as the finish.
