Regrouting near Gomshall

How we handle regrouting in Gomshall

Stained, crumbling or cracked grout can make a sound bathroom look tired. Regrouting replaces the grout and keeps the tiles you have, so nothing is ripped out. We work on shower walls, tiled floors and bathroom floors, and common reasons people get in touch are grout washed out of a shower and dirty, worn grout on a tiled floor.

Being in a small place like Gomshall makes no difference to the job itself: it just means planning the journey and access beforehand. In the bathroom or kitchen, the work is the same as in any town.

Each job carries a 12-month guarantee, whatever its size.

Landlord and commercial work in Gomshall

Whether it’s one flat or a portfolio, the work is the same standard: the old material taken out, careful preparation and a 12-month guarantee.

Failed sealant is one of the commonest items on a check-out report. We can quote for more than one property at once.

Gomshall homes and their sealant

Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, which leaves limescale on sealant, grout and fittings, and it has to be cleaned off before new sealant goes in.

Homes close to The Church of St James include some older properties, and older homes can move a little, which is hard on rigid grout and tired sealant. If you let a flat or house near Gomshall station, stained grout drags a rental down, and regrouting between lets puts that right. If you look after a building such as Shere CofE Aided Infant School, washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes.

Why deal with it now?

Regrouting will not help where tiles have come away. We will tell you before any work starts, so you can decide what to do. Where the tiles are sound, regrouting is far less disruptive than retiling. Where a wall is exposed, as many are in small places like Gomshall, wind-driven rain gets into any failed joint, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.

We do not show prices on the website, because the cost depends so much on the job itself. For a quick quote, please ring 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we will talk you through it.

Gomshall questions

Is Gomshall within the area you cover?

Yes. Gomshall is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We work across London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

I let a flat near Gomshall station. Can you help?

Yes, landlords and agents are among the people we work for. You can call 0345 464 0079 or email us with the details for a clear quote.

Do you take out the old sealant first?

Yes, every time. New sealant will not bond properly to old, so the joint is cleaned back first.

Is it OK to seal over old sealant?

No, it won’t last. It may look fine at first, but the new layer lifts away from the old one. The old sealant has to come out completely.

Where do you work from?

We’re based in Crawley, and we work across South East England, London and Scotland.

Will you leave a mess?

No. We protect the surfaces around the joints, and we clear up the old sealant and our materials before we leave.

Will the sealant be renewed as well as the grout?

Normally we do both. Grout fills tile gaps and sealant handles the moving joints, so both are renewed and it’s all in the quote.

Is it worth trying it myself?

Some simple jobs can be done by a careful DIYer. Most DIY failures come from sealing over old material, wet joints or too much sealant.

Keeping the joints in good condition

Once the sealant has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Open a window or run the fan to clear steam
  • Clean with a soft brush, not anything metal
  • Rinse soap off the tiles after each shower
  • Wipe water off the walls when you are done

Clean the grout with a mild bathroom cleaner with a soft brush. Avoid neat bleach and strong acid descalers, as they can break grout down.

Fixing grout early is a small job. Left, the same problem can let water through, so get it looked at when you notice it.

How it works

Most of a good job is in the preparation, so that is where we spend the time. Joints are cleaned back and dried before anything new goes in. All told, the work takes a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room. Somewhere like Gomshall needs a little journey planning: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. Everything for the job comes with us, so a second trip is avoided where possible.

  1. We check the tiles for any that are hollow or loose.
  2. We rake out the grout evenly, protecting the tile edges.
  3. We vacuum the joints so the new grout bonds.
  4. We regrout the joints and clean the tile faces.
  5. We finish with silicone in the moving joints.

How to prepare

  • For indoor joints, keep the area dry beforehand if you can
  • Move anything stored near the joints
  • On commercial sites, let us know about site rules

Related advice

Can I do it myself?

If you are set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it does not work out, we can still put it right.

If you’ve already had a go yourself, that’s fine. We remove it and do the joint properly, so just mention it when you contact us.

How the job changes by surface

Bathroom wall tiles

Tiles away from the shower stay drier but grout there still discolours. New grout freshens them up.

Kitchen splashbacks

Grout behind the hob and sink works hard. We regroute and reseal the worktop joint.

Honest limits

We will not take on work that will not last, so here’s what sealant can’t put right:

  • Waterproofing that has failed below the tiling
  • Tiles that are loose or hollow behind
  • A structure that flexes behind the tiles

If you’re not sure, just call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking.
