Need regrouting in Gatehead?

Regrouting in Gatehead, done properly

A bathroom with good tiles can still look worn if the grout has gone. Regrouting replaces the grout and keeps the tiles you have, so nothing is ripped out. We work on tiled floors, kitchen splashbacks and bathroom wall tiles, and the jobs we see most are shower grout that has worn away and cracked grout along the bath or tray.

In and around a place like Gatehead, homes range from older stone-built properties to newer houses. Where a building moves, cracked grout and split sealant are usually the first signs.

All of our work is guaranteed for twelve months, and the guarantee is the same wherever you are.

How it works

There’s no need to move everything out before we come, just the space around the work. We protect the rest, and the job takes anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area in most cases. Outdoor work around Gatehead depends on the weather, as sealant needs a dry surface, so an outdoor job can move if the forecast changes. Work indoors isn’t affected.

  1. First, we check for loose or hollow tiles and point out any we find.
  2. We rake out the old grout to an even depth, taking care of the tile edges.
  3. Dust and debris are vacuumed out of every joint.
  4. Fresh grout goes into the joints and the tile faces are wiped clean.
  5. The corners and edges get new silicone, because grout there would crack.

Preparing for the visit

  • Clear items away from the joints we’re working on
  • Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit
  • On commercial sites, let us know about site rules

How to look after the new joints

So the new joints stay in good condition:

  • Clean grout with a mild bathroom cleaner
  • Use a soft brush rather than a wire one
  • Open a window or run the fan to clear steam
  • Do not ignore a tile that feels loose

Leave the area unused for as long as we advise, so it can harden properly. After that, rinse the tiles after showering and let the room air.

Grout that stays dark after cleaning is starting to fail. Regrouting at this stage is straightforward, before the joints open up.

Different surfaces, different methods

Bathroom floors

Floor grout takes foot traffic as well as water. It wears and darkens over time.

Kitchen splashbacks

Kitchen grout collects grease and food splashes. Once it’s stained, new grout is often the only fix.

Gatehead questions

Will you come out to Gatehead?

Yes, Gatehead is covered. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, from towns to the smallest places. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.

Do you cover Gatehead for regrouting?

Yes. We work across all of Scotland, and Gatehead is part of that. You can drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and let us know what needs doing.

Can landlords and businesses book you?

Yes, often. Several properties can go on one quote, and between tenancies is a good time for the work.

Can tenants book the work?

We can work for tenants, landlords or agents. Get your landlord’s agreement first.

Do you reseal at the same time?

Generally, yes. Corners and edges need flexible silicone and doing both at once leaves everything sound.

Do you work for hotels and businesses?

Yes. Hotels, offices and other businesses use us.

Do I need to be at home?

If the work is inside, we need someone to let us in. After that, you can carry on with your day.

Can you regrout just the shower?

Yes, that’s common. Shower grout tends to go before the rest, so many people regrout just that part.

What affects the cost of regrouting

The price is agreed before any work begins. It takes into account:

  • Whether the work is at height
  • Which sealant suits the joint
  • How much there is to do
  • How many rooms, windows or areas are involved

No two jobs are quite the same, so each one gets its own quote. Size, access and the product the joint needs all play a part, and we’ll explain the quote if you ask.

What to tell us for a quote

When you call or email, these details help:

  • Access, such as stairs, a lift or height
  • If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel
  • The problem you’ve noticed
  • Roughly how big the job is

Quotes start with a quick conversation. Tell us what’s wrong, where it is and how much there is, and we will explain how we’d tackle it. When it suits you, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Work for landlords, hotels and businesses

A neglected joint can let water reach the structure, which is a bigger problem in a rented property. Resealing at the right time is simple maintenance that we can handle for you.

We work for landlords and letting agents as well as householders. Resealing between tenancies keeps a property looking cared for before the next move-in.

Gatehead homes and their sealant

Private landlords in Scotland must be registered and meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping fixtures and fittings in reasonable repair. Tired, leaking sealant is worth putting right before a new tenant moves in. Scotland’s water is generally soft, so sealant and grout see less limescale than in much of England. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that does not dry out.

If you look after a building such as Grange Academy, washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes. Letting a property close to Kilmarnock station? Then clean grout and fresh sealant between tenancies make a bathroom look cared for again.

Why deal with it now?

If tiles are loose, regrouting alone isn’t the answer. We point that out first, so you can decide what to do. Where the tiles are sound, regrouting is far less disruptive than retiling. In an older home around Gatehead, damp from a failed joint can get into timber and plaster.

Some things make a job bigger or smaller: how much old sealant there is and how stubborn it is, any mould to treat, and whether we need extra access for height. We take all of that into account in your quote.

DIY versus a professional finish

Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, like a short, easy-to-reach joint indoors. Where it goes wrong is sealing over the old bead, working on a wet joint or overloading the gap.

What a professional job adds is preparation and the right product. Joints are cleaned back to sound surfaces and dried, and the sealant is matched to the joint and its conditions.
