Your questions about regrouting in Fyvie

Is regrouting in Fyvie guaranteed?

Every job comes with our 12-month guarantee, wherever it is. We are fully insured, and an ARBOMaster approved applicator.

Is Fyvie in your area for regrouting?

Yes. We work across all of Scotland, and Fyvie is part of that. You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and let us know what needs doing.

Can landlords and businesses book you?

Yes, we do. Domestic, commercial and hotel work are all part of what we do.

Are you fully insured?

Yes. Mr Mastic is fully insured, with over 20 years’ experience in sealant work.

How soon can the shower be used after regrouting?

We give you a time before we leave. The wait depends on the products and conditions so please stick to it.

Which products do you use?

Each joint gets the product that suits it. Where it moves, gets wet or faces the weather makes a difference.

Where are you based?

We are based in Crawley, and we work across South East England, London and Scotland.

Can I do it myself?

Sometimes. The key is preparation: remove all the old material and work on a clean, dry joint. We can always put it right if it fails.

Regrouting for homes and businesses in Fyvie

We take the old grout out to a consistent depth, taking care not to chip the tile edges. After vacuuming, new grout goes in and the tiles are wiped clean, and the corners get fresh silicone. We work on shower walls, kitchen splashbacks and bathroom wall tiles, and common reasons people get in touch are dirty, worn grout on a tiled floor and greasy, stained grout behind the hob.

Bathrooms in smaller places like Fyvie work just as hard as those in the cities. Limescale is less of a problem with Scotland’s generally soft water, but mould still takes hold in damp sealant and grout.

Your job is guaranteed for a year, as with all our work.

What happens if it’s left?

New grout smeared over the old does not bond well. It sits thinly on top and soon flakes away, taking any repair with it. Raking out to a consistent depth gives the new grout something to hold. In a place like Fyvie, small leaks are easy to put off, but water behind a failed seal does the most damage when nobody’s watching.

No two jobs are quite the same, so we quote each one individually. Size, access and the product the joint needs all make a difference, and we will explain the quote if you ask.

Regrouting around Fyvie

Private landlords in Scotland must be registered and meet the Repairing Standard, which covers keeping fixtures and fittings in a reasonable state of repair. Failed sealant around a bath or shower is worth sorting between tenancies. Scottish Water supplies are generally soft, so limescale is less of a problem than in hard-water areas. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that does not dry out.

Around Fyvie, as everywhere, regrouting is only as good as the preparation behind it. For an older house near a landmark such as St Peter's Church, older homes can move a little, which is hard on rigid grout and tired sealant.

Fyvie is about 10 miles north of Inverurie, in Aberdeenshire. Across the AB53 area, our applicators can take on regrouting. Across Aberdeenshire, we cover 161 places, Fyvie among them. There’s also a page for Aberdeen, roughly 22 miles from Fyvie.

Bathroom wall tiles

Splash areas around basins and baths stain first. We can do part of a wall or all of it.

Shower walls

Shower walls get wet every day, so its grout takes the most punishment. It’s often the first place grout washes out.

How we quote for regrouting

Your quote is based on your job. We look at:

  • The product the joint needs
  • Whether there’s mould to deal with
  • Whether the work is at height
  • Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out

There are no prices on our website, because the cost depends so much on the job itself. Call for a quick quote and we’ll talk you through it.

Helping us quote

There’s no need for technical detail. Just tell us:

  • Roughly how big the job is
  • Whether it has been sealed before
  • Any access issues, like height or stairs
  • Where the property is

Quotes start with a quick conversation. Tell us what’s wrong, where it is and how much there is, and we’ll talk you through what we’d do. Whenever you are ready, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Looking after it afterwards

No joint lasts for ever, but care makes a real difference. Our tips:

  • Do not ignore a tile that feels loose
  • Skip wire brushes and scourers
  • Use a squeegee on the tiles after showering
  • Rinse the tiles after showering

Wipe the tiles down after a shower stops soap and water sitting on the grout. Run the extractor fan or open a window to help it dry out.

Grout that stays dark after cleaning is starting to fail. At this point it’s a simple regrout, before the joints open up.

What we do, step by step

On the day, we start by going over the job with you. Surfaces next to the work are protected before we start. The work normally takes a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. Outside jobs in Fyvie need a dry day, because sealant won’t bond to a wet joint, so external jobs may need to move if the day turns wet. Indoor work goes ahead whatever the weather.

  1. We start by checking the tiles for any that are loose or hollow.
  2. Old grout is raked out to a consistent depth without chipping the tiles.
  3. We vacuum the joints and clean out the dust.
  4. Fresh grout goes into the joints and the tile faces are wiped clean.
  5. We reseal the internal corners and edges with silicone.

Preparing for the visit

  • Keep pets and children clear of the area while we work
  • Mention any leaks or damp you’ve noticed
  • Tell us about access, such as stairs, a lift or high-level joints
