Regrouting near Fritwell

Regrouting in Fritwell

Before work begins, the tiles are checked. If any tiles are loose or sound hollow, we tell you, because regrouting won’t fix what’s behind them. With sound tiles, regrouting is a tidy, lasting improvement. We work on bathroom floors, wet rooms and shower walls, and common reasons people get in touch are grout washed out of a shower and dirty, worn grout on a tiled floor.

Somewhere as small as Fritwell, homes tend to be cottages, farmhouses or converted buildings, with some newer houses too. Older walls and timber floors can move a little, and cracked grout and split sealant are often the first signs.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. If there’s a problem with it, please call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email.

What sealant work can’t fix

Before booking, it’s worth knowing the limits:

  • Water coming from plumbing rather than grout
  • A floor or wall that keeps moving
  • Tiles that are chipped or split

If in doubt, call 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we’ll say what we think.

What happens on the day

There is not much for you to do on the day. Point us to the joints and we’ll get on with it. The work itself takes anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area, including the tidy-up. Somewhere like Fritwell needs a little journey planning: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. We bring what the job needs, so it can be finished in one trip where possible.

  1. We check the tiles are sound and flag any that are loose or hollow.
  2. The old grout comes out to a consistent depth, without damaging the tiles.
  3. Dust and debris are vacuumed out of every joint.
  4. We fill the joints with new grout, then clean the tiles.
  5. The corners and edges get new silicone, because grout there would crack.

When to call us in Fritwell

Soap scum and limescale build up on grout that is hard to shift. The grout beneath can stain and weaken, which is when replacing it makes sense.

The most common problems we see are:

  • Corners filled with grout instead of silicone
  • Good tiles let down by tired grout
  • Grout that’s cracking and breaking up
  • Dirty, worn grout on a tiled floor

If you let a flat or house near Heyford station, stained grout drags a rental down, and regrouting between lets puts that right.

  • How the colour is chosen

Our hiring checklist

What affects the cost of regrouting

We do not publish a price list. The quote depends on:

  • The size of the job
  • Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out
  • Whether there’s mould to deal with
  • How many rooms, windows or areas are involved

The cost reflects the work involved, not guesswork. That’s why we ask a few questions first and give you a clear quote before any work starts.

What we need to know

What to tell us when you ask for a quote:

  • A few photos by email, if you can
  • Any previous sealing or DIY work
  • The type of property
  • What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking

Want a quote for regrouting? Please phone 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email with a few details. We’ll explain what we’d do and give you a clear quote before we start.

Looking after it afterwards

Aftercare is simple:

  • Keep the fan on after showering
  • Clean with a soft brush, not anything metal
  • Stick to mild products for cleaning grout
  • Check the corner silicone every few months

If a tile starts to feel loose, get it looked at early. Movement will crack the new grout and lets water in.

Stains that will not clean are a sign the grout is breaking down. At this point it’s a simple regrout while the tiles are still sound.

Should I try it myself first?

If you’ve already had a go yourself, that is fine. We remove it and do the joint properly.

Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, such as a straightforward joint indoors. The common mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using far too much.

Leave it or put it right?

New grout smeared over the old doesn’t bond well. It sits thinly on top and soon flakes away. Raking out to a consistent depth gives the new grout something to hold. Around Fritwell, older homes often have timber in their floors and frames, and water through a failed joint can rot timber if it’s left.

Yes. Just list everything you need and we will quote it together.
