Regrouting near Elvendon

Surface by surface

Bathroom floors

If floor grout keeps cracking, the floor may be moving. We check the tiles before regrouting.

Corners and edges

We reseal edges at the same time as regrouting, so everything is renewed at once.

How we handle regrouting in Elvendon

Grout is the filler between your tiles, and sealant is what goes along the bath, tray or worktop. Once grout starts to crack or wash away, water has a way in behind the tiling. We rake it out and replace it and renew the silicone at the edges. If you’re dealing with floor grout that won’t come clean and greasy, stained grout behind the hob, we can help.

Being in a small place like Elvendon makes no difference to the job itself: it just means planning the journey and access beforehand. Once we’re there, the bathroom or kitchen gets the same care as anywhere else.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If something is not right with it in that time, tell us and we will put it right.

What affects the cost of regrouting

Every job gets its own quote. These are the things that affect it:

  • How much there is to do
  • The number of rooms or windows
  • Which sealant suits the joint
  • Access and height

Some things make a job bigger or smaller: the old material and how easily it comes out, whether mould needs treating, and whether we need extra access for height. We take all of that into account in your quote.

Helping us quote

When you call or email, it’s useful to know:

  • How many joints, rooms or windows are involved
  • A few pictures by email, if you can
  • Any access issues, like height or stairs
  • What’s wrong with the joints now

Leave it or put it right?

Grout pens and paint-on colourants only cover the surface. They will not fill gaps or keep water out, and stains can show through again. Raking out and regrouting replaces the grout itself. Older cottages and farmhouses around Elvendon can have timber floors and frames, where water from a failed joint can cause rot if it’s left.

Homes and businesses are quoted the same way: the amount of work, the access and the products needed. Ask us for a quote and we will explain what it covers.

Should I try it myself first?

What a professional job adds is preparation and the right product. We take joints back to clean, dry surfaces, and the sealant is matched to the joint and its conditions, and the work is guaranteed for a year.

Overfilling a joint is a classic DIY mistake. A heavy bead looks messy and copes badly with movement, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.

What happens on the day

On the day, we start by going over the job with you. Surfaces next to the work are protected before any work begins. Most jobs take a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. Somewhere as small as Elvendon, access is often the only tricky part. For outside work, also let us know about exposed walls and any outbuildings involved.

  1. We check the tiles are sound and flag any that are loose or hollow.
  2. The old grout comes out to a consistent depth, without damaging the tiles.
  3. The joints are vacuumed and cleaned.
  4. New grout is worked into the joints and cleaned off the tile faces.
  5. The corners and edges get new silicone, because grout there would crack.

Preparing for the visit

  • Mention any leaks or damp you’ve noticed
  • Where the joints are inside, avoid wetting them before we arrive
  • Keep children and pets away from the work area

Advice

Elvendon: your questions answered

Will you come out to Elvendon?

Yes. Elvendon is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our work covers London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

Is Elvendon in your area for regrouting?

Yes, Elvendon is within the area we cover. Our work covers London and the South East. You can call 0345 464 0079 or email us and tell us what needs doing, and we will send you a clear quote.

Is the work guaranteed?

Every job comes with our 12-month guarantee.

Do I need to be at home?

It depends on the job. Inside work needs someone to give us access, and for outside work we’ll agree access with you when we book.

Will the old sealant be removed?

Yes, every time. New silicone does not stick to old silicone, so any old material comes out before anything new goes in.

Will the sealant be renewed as well as the grout?

Most of the time, yes. Grout and sealant do different jobs, so both are renewed and it’s all in the quote.

Will there be a smell?

That depends on the sealant. Some smell for a while, some hardly at all, and any smell fades as they cure.

What if some of my tiles are loose?

If tiles are loose, something behind them has normally failed. Regrouting alone isn’t the answer, and we’ll tell you before any work starts.

What we can’t put right

New sealant can’t fix everything, and we’ll tell you before work begins. It won’t solve:

  • Water coming from plumbing rather than grout
  • Tiles that are loose or hollow behind
  • Failed tanking or waterproofing under the tiles

If you are not sure, just phone 0345 464 0079 or email us and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking.

Surfaces we seal

  • Tiled floors
  • Kitchen splashbacks
  • Shower walls

  • Wet rooms

Keeping the joints in good condition

Good habits help new joints last longer. Our tips:

  • Stick to mild products for cleaning grout
  • Keep the fan on after showering
  • Wipe or squeegee the shower walls
  • Give the walls a quick rinse after use

Keep an eye on the silicone in the corners. Corners flex, so it’s normally the first thing to need attention, long before the grout does.

Grout that stays dark after cleaning is starting to fail. At this point it’s a simple regrout while the tiles are still sound.
