Dunecht: your questions answered
Is regrouting in Dunecht guaranteed?
Every job comes with our one-year guarantee, wherever it is. We’re also fully insured and ARBOMaster approved.
Do you cover smaller places like Dunecht?
Yes. Dunecht is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.
Do you grout the corners?
We use silicone in corners and along edges. Grout in those joints cracks as the building moves.
Are you insured?
Yes. Mr Mastic is fully insured, with over 20 years’ experience in sealant work.
Where do you work from?
Mr Mastic is based in Crawley. We cover Dunecht and the rest of Aberdeenshire, along with the rest of our area.
Will it make a mess?
Very little: the area around the joints is protected first, and we tidy up before we go.
Can you change the grout colour?
It can. Because the old grout is raked out, the new colour goes all the way into the joint rather than sitting on top.
Is it worth trying it myself?
For a simple, easy-to-reach joint, a careful DIYer can do a reasonable job. The usual mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using too much.
About our regrouting in Dunecht
We regroute showers, bathroom walls and floors, splashbacks and wet rooms. It can be a full room, or just the area that has failed. Whatever the size, the method stays the same. If you have grout stained black or orange that won’t clean and grout that makes sound tiles look old, we can put it right, whatever the surface.
A bathroom in a place like Dunecht gets the same daily wear as one in a city flat. Limescale is less of a problem with Scotland’s generally soft water, but mould still takes hold in damp sealant and grout.
A 12-month guarantee comes with the work, just as it does everywhere we cover.

Dunecht homes and their sealant
Scottish Water supplies are generally soft, so limescale is less of a problem than in hard-water areas. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that does not dry out. In Scotland, private landlords have to meet the Repairing Standard, which covers keeping fixtures and fittings in a reasonable state of repair. Failed sealant around a bath or shower is worth sorting between tenancies.
Whether the job is in Dunecht itself or nearby, the right material for each joint matters as much as a neat finish.

Do you need regrouting in Dunecht?
A bathroom that stays damp keeps the grout wet, giving mould a place to grow. When black spots keep returning, the mould has usually got into the grout.
Common reasons people contact us are:
- Shower grout that has worn away
- Crumbling grout between the tiles
- Greasy, stained grout behind the hob
- Dirty, worn grout on a tiled floor
In and around Dunecht, as anywhere, good regrouting starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.

You will get a clear quote before we start. It’s based on:

Different surfaces, different methods
Bathroom wall tiles
Tiles away from the shower stay drier but still stain and crack. New grout freshens them up.
Corners and edges
Corners flex as the building moves, so we seal them rather than grout them.
What we cannot put right
We will not take on work that won’t last, so these are the limits:
- Tiles that are loose or hollow behind
- Cracked or broken tiles
- A structure that flexes behind the tiles
Not sure which it is? You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will tell you honestly before booking.
What we seal
- Wet rooms
- Bathroom wall tiles
- Kitchen splashbacks
- Tiled floors
- Shower walls
- Bathroom floors
DIY versus a professional finish
Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, like a short, easy-to-reach joint indoors. The common mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using far too much.
If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still put it right.
What happens on the day
At the end, we look at the finished work together and tell you how long to leave it. The work normally takes a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room, depending on the size of the job. Outdoor work around Dunecht depends on the weather, as sealant needs a dry surface, so external jobs may need to move if the day turns wet. Indoor work goes ahead whatever the weather.
- We check the tiles are sound and flag any that are loose or hollow.
- Old grout is raked out to a consistent depth without chipping the tiles.
- The joints are vacuumed and cleaned.
- Fresh grout goes into the joints and the tile faces are wiped clean.
- We reseal the internal corners and edges with silicone.
Before we arrive
- Mention any sign-in or site rules at work premises
- Tell us about access, such as stairs, a lift or high-level joints
- Let us know if you’ve seen damp or leaks
Getting a quote
The more we know about the job, the more useful the quote. Let us know the location, the problem and roughly how many joints, and email pictures if that is easy.
Advice
Why act early in Dunecht
Colouring the surface of old grout is a quick cosmetic fix. They won’t fill gaps or keep water out, and stains can show through again. Raking out and regrouting replaces the grout itself. Out of town in Scotland, exposed walls take a lot of weather, and once water gets behind a failed joint, damp in stone or harled walls is slow to dry out.
We do not show prices on the website, because the cost depends so much on the job itself. For a quick quote, please email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will talk you through it.
