About our regrouting in Danderhall

Before any work starts, the tiles are checked. Loose or hollow tiles are pointed out first, since new grout can’t fix a problem underneath. With sound tiles, regrouting is a tidy, lasting improvement. We are often asked to deal with gaps where the shower grout has gone and a grout colour that no longer suits the room, across kitchen splashbacks, wet rooms and bathroom wall tiles.

Across smaller places in Scotland, homes range from stone and harled cottages to newer houses. Older buildings can move a little, and that shows first in cracked grout and split sealant.

We guarantee the work for a year. If something isn’t right with it in that time, tell us and we’ll put it right.

Should I try it myself first?

Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, like a short, easy-to-reach joint indoors. The common mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using far too much.

If you’ve already had a go yourself, that is fine. We cut it out and start again, so tell us about it when you ask for a quote.

Your questions about regrouting in Danderhall

Do you cover smaller places like Danderhall?

Yes, we do. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.

Is Danderhall in your area for regrouting?

Yes. We work across all of Scotland, and Danderhall is part of that. You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us what needs doing.

Is it worth trying it myself?

That depends on the joint. High-level, external movement and fire-rated joints are professional jobs.

Does someone need to be in?

For indoor joints, yes, someone needs to let us in. Once we’ve agreed the job, you do not need to watch us work.

What guarantee comes with the work?

You get our 12-month guarantee on every job. We’re also fully insured.

Is regrouting a chance to pick a new grout colour?

Yes, plenty of people choose to. A darker grout hides marks better, while lighter grout brightens a room.

Can tenants book the work?

We can work for tenants, landlords or agents. Get your landlord’s agreement first.

Can you regrout just the shower?

Yes. We’ll check the other tiled areas as well and let you know if more needs doing.

When something else is needed

A few problems are outside what sealant work can do:

  • A structure that flexes behind the tiles
  • Tiles that have come away from the wall
  • Tiles that are chipped or split

Not sure which it is? You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll tell you honestly.

What we seal

  • Tiled floors
  • Kitchen splashbacks
  • Bathroom wall tiles
  • Bathroom floors
  • Shower walls
  • Wet rooms

Why act early in Danderhall

Cracked grout lets water behind the tiles. Leave it, and the adhesive or the wall behind can suffer, and then you’re looking at retiling. Dealing with it now keeps it small. Out of town in Scotland, exposed walls take a lot of weather, and once water gets behind a failed joint, damp in stone or harled walls is slow to dry out.

No two jobs are quite the same, so each one gets its own quote. Size, access and the product the joint needs all make a difference, and we’ll explain the quote if you ask.

When to call us in Danderhall

Harsh cleaners and scrubbing wear grout away. Bleach and acidic limescale removers can attack it with repeated use, leaving the joints sunken and rough.

The most common problems we see are:

  • Grout in a colour the owner wants to change
  • Grout stained black or orange that will not clean
  • Floor grout that has worn and darkened
  • Crumbling grout between the tiles

Schools such as Castlebrae Community High School are buildings too, and its toilets, changing areas and kitchens need their sealant renewed like any other building’s.

Choosing a sealant specialist

The process

When we arrive, we look over the joints with you first, so you know exactly what we are doing. Surfaces next to the work are protected before any work starts. The work normally takes anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area. Outside jobs in Danderhall need a dry day, because sealant won’t bond to a wet joint, so an outdoor job can move if the forecast changes. Work indoors is not affected.

  1. First, we check for loose or hollow tiles and point out any we find.
  2. Old grout is raked out to a consistent depth without chipping the tiles.
  3. We vacuum the joints and clean out the dust.
  4. Fresh grout goes into the joints and the tile faces are wiped clean.
  5. We reseal the internal corners and edges with silicone.

Advice

How to look after the new joints

To keep the joints looking good and working properly:

  • Check the corner silicone every few months
  • Don’t ignore a tile that feels loose
  • Rinse the tiles after showering
  • Use a soft brush rather than a wire one

A squeegee or cloth over the tiles after use keeps water off the grout. Run the extractor fan or open a window to help it dry out.

If grout in the shower is washing out, act soon. Every shower pushes more water into the gaps, and that water can reach the wall or the floor below.

Landlord and commercial work in Danderhall

Hotels need rooms back in use, so we plan the work room by room around your bookings where we can. Hotel work is part of what we do, alongside homes and businesses.

Businesses can book us for washrooms, kitchens, offices and more. For commercial premises, we can talk through working times when we quote.

Regrouting in Danderhall: local notes

Danderhall is within about 3 miles of the coast. Coastal homes, holiday lets and guest houses can see heavy bathroom use in busy months, which wears sealant and grout out faster than in a quiet home. Private landlords in Scotland must be registered and meet the Repairing Standard, which covers keeping fixtures and fittings in a reasonable state of repair. Tired, leaking sealant is worth putting right before a new tenant moves in.

In the older streets around Newton Church, older homes can move a little, which is hard on rigid grout and tired sealant. For landlords with property near Shawfair station, clean grout and fresh sealant between tenancies make a bathroom look cared for again.
