How we handle regrouting in Cripp's Corner

Grout is the filler between your tiles, and sealant is what goes along the bath, tray or worktop. When grout cracks or washes out, water has a way in behind the tiling. Our job is to rake it out and put new grout in and renew the silicone at the edges. We are often asked to deal with grout washed out of a shower and floor grout that has worn and darkened, on bathroom wall tiles, shower walls and bathroom floors.

Being in a small place like Cripp's Corner makes no difference to the job itself: the journey and access are simply agreed in advance. In the bathroom or kitchen, the work is the same as in any town.

Whatever the size of the job, you get the same one-year guarantee.

When to call us in Cripp's Corner

Strong cleaning products and hard scrubbing slowly erode grout. Some bleaches and acid descalers break grout down over time, until the joints are rough and low.

These are the problems we are asked about most:

  • Cracked or crumbling grout lines
  • Grout that makes sound tiles look old
  • Stained grout that cleaning will not shift
  • Gaps where the shower grout has gone

In the older streets around St Marks Staplecross, walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first.

Questions to ask before you book

  • How the surfaces are prepared before sealing
  • What happens if the job turns out different
  • Whether all the old sealant comes out first
  • Whether you can choose the colour

Cripp's Corner: your questions answered

Is Cripp's Corner in your area for regrouting?

Yes, Cripp's Corner is within the area we cover. We work across London and the South East. Just ring 0345 464 0079 or email us with a few details of the job.

Do you cover smaller places like Cripp's Corner?

Yes, we do. Our work covers London and the South East, from towns to the smallest places. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.

What do you put in the joint?

Each joint gets the product that suits it. Movement, water and weather all affect the choice, and we’ll tell you what we’re using.

How long should I wait before showering?

We give you a time before we leave. The wait depends on the products and conditions, so follow the time we give you.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

Yes, but check with your landlord or agent first. Landlords are often happy for the work to be arranged.

Can you seal over the old sealant?

No. We remove every bit of old sealant first.

Do you regrout part of a bathroom, like the shower?

Yes. A lot of our jobs are only the shower, or the area where the grout has gone.

Is the work guaranteed?

Every job comes with our 12-month guarantee, and we’re fully insured.

Looking after it afterwards

Aftercare is simple:

  • Check the corner silicone every few months
  • Clean with a soft brush, not anything metal
  • Clean grout with a mild bathroom cleaner
  • Don’t use strong acidic cleaners on grout

Clean the grout with a mild bathroom cleaner with a soft brush. Keep harsh bleach and acid limescale removers away from it, as they can break grout down.

Stains that will not clean are a sign the grout is breaking down. At this point it’s a simple regrout while the tiles are still sound.

What regrouting looks like in Cripp's Corner

Most of the South East has hard water, so limescale builds up on sealant, grout and fittings, and it has to be cleaned off before new sealant goes in.

Rented homes near Robertsbridge station change hands often, and clean grout and fresh sealant between tenancies make a bathroom look cared for again. Managing a site like Staplecross Methodist Primary School? Then we reseal washrooms and kitchens in schools and businesses as well as homes.

Leave it or put it right?

It’s tempting to fill a few cracks yourself, but patched grout rarely matches the rest, and the old grout keeps failing around them. Doing the full area gives you one colour and sound joints throughout. Where a wall is exposed, as many are in small places like Cripp's Corner, wind-driven rain gets into any failed joint, and damp in older walls is slow to dry out.

The cost depends on the size of the job, how much old material has to come out and how easy the joints are to reach. We give a clear quote before we start, so you know where you stand.

What affects the cost of regrouting

Some jobs are bigger than they look, and some smaller. The main factors:

  • When we can work, for business premises
  • The number of rooms or windows
  • How much old sealant there is and how hard it is to remove
  • The size of the job

Every job is a little different, so each one gets its own quote. The number of joints, how easy they are to reach and the sealant needed all make a difference, and we will explain the quote if you ask.

What to tell us for a quote

What to tell us when you ask for a quote:

  • Whether it has been sealed before
  • The rough size of the job
  • If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel
  • Pictures of the joints, sent by email

Need a quote? Please call 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email with a few details. We will explain what we’d do and give you a clear quote before we start.

When something else is needed

Before you book, it’s worth knowing the limits:

  • Waterproofing that has failed below the tiling
  • A floor or wall that keeps moving
  • Water coming from plumbing rather than grout

If in doubt, ring 0345 464 0079 or email us and we’ll say what we think.
