Regrouting near Budds

About our regrouting in Budds

Stained, crumbling or cracked grout can make a sound bathroom look tired. With regrouting, the tiles stay and only the grout is renewed, so nothing is ripped out. We work on tiled floors, bathroom floors and shower walls, and the jobs we see most are floor grout that has worn and darkened and kitchen splashback grout stained by grease.

For a small place like Budds, regrouting is planned like any other job: it just means planning the journey and access beforehand. In the bathroom or kitchen, the work is the same as in any town.

Each job carries a 12-month guarantee, whatever its size.

Common problems we fix in Budds

Grout used in corners or along the bath cracks as the bath or tray moves. Those joints should be silicone, and when they are not, water gets in.

Keep an eye out for these signs:

  • Grout that makes sound tiles look old
  • Floor grout that has worn and darkened
  • Grout that stays dark however much it’s cleaned
  • Splashback grout that has darkened

If you let a flat or house near Hildenborough station, a regrout while the flat is empty is quicker than working around a tenant.

What your quote should include

  • Whether you can choose the colour
  • Are they insured?

10 questions to ask before you book

Keeping the joints in good condition

So the new joints stay in good condition:

  • Keep the fan on after showering
  • Skip wire brushes and scourers
  • Wipe water off the walls when you’re done
  • Stick to mild products for cleaning grout

Check the corner silicone now and then. Corners flex, so the sealant there will need renewing in time.

Small problems with grout are quick to put right. Left for a few years, they can become a leak so it’s worth dealing with as soon as you spot it.

Regrouting around Budds

Most of the South East has hard water, which leaves limescale on sealant, grout and fittings, and it has to be cleaned off before new sealant goes in.

For an older house near a landmark such as Church of St Giles, older homes can move a little, which is hard on rigid grout and tired sealant. If you look after a building such as Shipbourne School, washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes.

Budds is about 3 miles north of Tonbridge, in Kent. Across the TN11 area, we cover regrouting for homes and businesses. Our Kent coverage runs to 922 places, and Budds is one of them. For nearby work, see our Crawley page (22 miles or so).

What we can’t put right

We’d rather tell you now than do work that won’t last, so here’s what sealant can’t put right:

  • Tiles that are chipped or split
  • Tiles that have come away from the wall
  • Water coming from plumbing rather than grout

If in doubt, phone 0345 464 0079 or email us and we’ll say what we think.

Where we work in Budds

  • Shower walls
  • Wet rooms
  • Kitchen splashbacks
  • Bathroom floors
  • Bathroom wall tiles
  • Tiled floors

Should I try it myself first?

If you are set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.

A careful DIYer can reseal a simple joint, like a short, easy-to-reach joint indoors. The common mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using far too much.

What we do, step by step

There is not much for you to do on the day. Show us the job and we will take it from there. The job generally takes a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room, including the tidy-up. In a small place like Budds, access is normally the main thing to plan. For outside work, also let us know about exposed walls and any outbuildings involved.

  1. We start by checking the tiles for any that are loose or hollow.
  2. Old grout is raked out to a consistent depth without chipping the tiles.
  3. The joints are vacuumed and cleaned.
  4. We fill the joints with new grout, then clean the tiles.
  5. We reseal the internal corners and edges with silicone.

How to prepare

  • Let us know about stairs, lifts or work at height
  • Let us know about parking restrictions
  • Mention if the joints have been sealed before

Mouldy or split sealant often shows up at the end of a tenancy. We can quote for more than one property at once.

What the job involves on each surface

Bathroom floors

New floor grout makes a big difference to how a bathroom looks. Floor-to-wall and bath joints are sealed, not grouted.

Kitchen splashbacks

Splashback grout picks up grease and cooking stains. Once it’s stained, new grout is often the only fix.
