Boghead Regrouting
Raking out old, cracked or stained grout and regrouting tiled walls and floors for householders, landlords and businesses in Boghead. ARBOMaster approved applicators, fully insured, with a 12-month guarantee.
- Cracked grout along the bath or tray
- Crumbling grout between the tiles
- Stained grout that cleaning will not shift
How it works
On the day, we look over the joints with you first. Surfaces next to the work are protected before any work begins. The work normally takes a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. In smaller Scottish places, parking is normally less of an issue than access and distance. Tell us how to find the property and how to reach the work.
- We check the tiles for any that are hollow or loose.
- The old grout is removed to an even depth.
- The joints are vacuumed clean.
- New grout is pressed into the joints and the tiles are cleaned.
- We finish with silicone in the moving joints.
How to prepare
- Plan for the work area to be out of bounds to pets and children
- Tell us about any water getting in
- Mention any parking rules near the property

About our regrouting in Boghead
Grout is the filler between your tiles, while sealant goes where tiles meet a bath, tray or worktop. When grout cracks or washes out, water can get in behind the tiles. Our job is to rake it out and put new grout in and renew the silicone at the edges. We work on bathroom wall tiles, kitchen splashbacks and wet rooms, and people most often call us about grout that’s cracking and breaking up and gaps where the shower grout has gone.
Bathrooms in smaller places like Boghead work just as hard as those in the cities. Limescale is less of a problem with Scotland’s generally soft water, but mould still takes hold in damp sealant and grout.
We stand behind the work with a one-year guarantee, so you’re not left on your own once the job is done.

Do you need regrouting in Boghead?
Poor ventilation keeps grout damp, and damp grout is where mould grows. Black marks that come back after cleaning are often in the grout itself.
People usually contact us after spotting something like this:
- Grout stained black or orange that will not clean
- Shower grout that has worn away
- Cracked grout along the bath or tray
- Dirty, worn grout on a tiled floor

Questions to ask before you book
- Who turns up on the day
- Whether they seal over old material or remove it
- How long to leave it before use
- What insurance they hold
Work for landlords, hotels and businesses
Businesses can book us for washrooms, kitchens, offices and more. On commercial sites, working times can be discussed when we quote.
Landlords and agents in Boghead can book us as well as homeowners. Resealing between tenancies is a simple way to keep a property in good order.
Leave it or put it right?
Regrouting will not help where tiles have come away. We’ll tell you before any work starts, so you can decide what to do. On sound tiles, regrouting avoids the upheaval of a retile. Exposed walls in smaller Scottish places take a lot of wind and rain, and once water gets behind a failed joint, damp in stone or harled walls is slow to dry out.
What it costs depends on the size of the job, how much old material has to come out and access to the work. We give a clear quote before any work starts.

Keeping the joints in good condition
Looking after new joints is easy:
- Use a soft brush rather than a wire one
- Get any tile that moves checked promptly
- Look at the sealant in the corners now and then
- Give the walls a quick rinse after use
Keep an eye on the silicone in the corners. It’s the part that moves, so the sealant there will need renewing in time.
Stains that won’t clean are a sign the grout is breaking down. At this point it’s a simple regrout, before the joints open up.
Questions from Boghead
Will you come out to Boghead?
Yes. Boghead is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We work across all of Scotland. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.
Is there a guarantee on regrouting in Boghead?
All our work, in Boghead and everywhere else, comes with a 12-month guarantee. We’re fully insured, and an ARBOMaster approved applicator.
Can new sealant go over the old?
No. Fresh sealant does not stick to old sealant, and it traps any mould or water underneath. It all has to come out first.
What does regrouting cost?
Every job is different, so each one gets its own quote. To get one, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and let us know what needs doing and where.
Should I try DIY first?
Sometimes. The key is preparation: remove all the old material and work on a clean, dry joint. If it doesn’t work out, we can redo it.
Will it make a mess?
Very little: the area around the joints is protected first, and we tidy up before we go.
Can I add another job to the visit?
Of course. Combining jobs makes good use of the visit.
What information do you need?
Where the job is, what the problem is and roughly how big it is. If you can, email a few photos.
When it is not the sealant
We’d rather tell you now than do work that will not last, so here’s what sealant cannot put right:
- A leaking shower valve or waste
- Tiles that have come away from the wall
- Tiles that are chipped or split
Not sure which it is? You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll tell you honestly.

Should I try it myself first?
The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. Silicone does not stick to old silicone, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. All the old material has to come out first.
If you’ve already had a go yourself, that’s fine. We remove it and do the joint properly, so tell us about it when you ask for a quote.
Bathrooms and kitchens in Boghead
Scotland’s water is generally soft, so sealant and grout see less limescale than in much of England. Mould is another matter: a bathroom that stays damp still turns sealant and grout black. In Scotland, private landlords have to meet the Repairing Standard, which covers keeping fixtures and fittings in a reasonable state of repair. Failed sealant around a bath or shower is worth sorting between tenancies.
