Regrouting for homes and businesses in Balfron
Before we start, the tiles are checked. If any tiles are loose or sound hollow, we tell you, because regrouting won’t fix what’s behind them. With sound tiles, regrouting is a tidy, lasting improvement. We work on bathroom floors, tiled floors and shower walls, and common reasons people get in touch are kitchen splashback grout stained by grease and cracked or crumbling grout lines.
Across smaller places in Scotland, homes range from stone and harled cottages to newer houses. Where a building moves, cracked grout and split sealant are normally the first signs.
Whatever the size of the job, it’s backed by our 12-month guarantee.

How the visit works
Once we are on site, we compare the joints with what we discussed. If we find something unexpected, we talk it through with you first. After that, the work takes a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. Outside jobs in Balfron need a dry day, because sealant won’t bond to a wet joint, so an outdoor job can move if the forecast changes. Indoor work goes ahead whatever the weather.
- First, we check for loose or hollow tiles and point out any we find.
- Old grout is raked out to a consistent depth without chipping the tiles.
- The joints are vacuumed and cleaned.
- Fresh grout goes into the joints and the tile faces are wiped clean.
- We reseal the internal corners and edges with silicone.

Balfron questions
Will you come out to Balfron?
Yes, Balfron is covered. We work across all of Scotland, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.
What guarantee comes with regrouting in Balfron?
Every job comes with our one-year guarantee, wherever it is. We’re fully insured, and an ARBOMaster approved applicator.
What do you need from me for a quote?
The location, the problem and the rough size of the job. If you can, email a few pictures.
What does regrouting cost?
There’s no set price, as it depends on the job: its size, the old material, access and the product needed. We agree the price before any work begins.
Are you fully insured?
Yes. We’re fully insured, and we can confirm the details when we quote.
What if some of my tiles are loose?
New grout can’t hold loose tiles in place. We check the tiles first and tell you if any are loose or hollow so you know where you stand.
How long does regrouting take?
As a guide, most jobs take a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room. Larger jobs naturally take longer, and we will tell you how long to expect.
What goes in the corners, grout or silicone?
We use silicone in corners and along edges. Grout in a moving joint soon cracks.
Regrouting around Balfron
Scottish Water supplies are generally soft, so limescale is less of a problem than in hard-water areas. Mould is another matter: a bathroom that stays damp still turns sealant and grout black. Private landlords in Scotland must be registered and meet the Repairing Standard, which covers keeping fixtures and fittings in a reasonable state of repair. Failed sealant around a bath or shower is worth sorting between tenancies.
Around Balfron, as everywhere, regrouting is only as good as the preparation behind it.

What else we do in Balfron
Common problems we fix in Balfron
Most grout is porous, so it soaks up water, soap and dirt. Given time, it discolours and begins to break down and showers that get daily use suffer most.
Signs it’s time to call us include:
- Kitchen splashback grout stained by grease
- Shower grout that has worn away
- Grout in corners that has cracked
- Dirty, worn grout on a tiled floor
Managing a site like Balfron High School? Then its toilets, changing areas and kitchens need their sealant renewed like any other building’s.
Questions to ask before booking
- What insurance they hold
- Is the old sealant removed completely?
- How the surfaces are prepared before sealing
- What happens if the job turns out different
Why act early in Balfron
Cracked grout lets water behind the tiles. Left alone, that water can loosen tiles or damage the wall, and then you’re looking at retiling. Sorting it early keeps the job simple. Exposed walls in smaller Scottish places take a lot of wind and rain, and damp in stone or harled walls takes a long time to dry once water gets behind a joint.
Every job is a little different, so we quote each one individually. Size, access and the product the joint needs all make a difference.

Looking after it afterwards
A little care helps the new joints last. We recommend:
- Stick to mild products for cleaning grout
- Keep an eye on the silicone along the edges
- Run the extractor fan during and after a shower
- Rinse soap off the tiles after each shower
Leave the area unused for as long as we advise, so it can harden properly. After that, rinse the tiles after showering and let the room air.
Cracked grout doesn’t stay cracked for long. Water gets in behind and the tiles can start to loosen and early regrouting can avoid a much bigger job.
Can I do it myself?
Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A heavy bead looks messy and copes badly with movement, and the joint depth matters as much as the finish.
The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. Silicone does not stick to old silicone, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. All the old material has to come out first.

- Working hours on commercial sites
- The size of the job
- Whether there’s mould to deal with
Leaving a failed joint normally makes the job bigger, not smaller, because water and mould keep working on it. If you are unsure, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will give you an honest view and a quote.
