Regrouting for homes and businesses in Aiginis

Regrouting suits shower walls, bathroom floors, kitchen splashbacks and wet rooms. Some jobs are a whole room, others just the shower. Either way, tiled areas in Aiginis are handled the same careful way. If you have dirty, worn grout on a tiled floor and stained grout that cleaning won’t shift, we can put it right, on bathroom floors, bathroom wall tiles and kitchen splashbacks alike.

Across smaller places in Scotland, homes range from stone and harled cottages to newer houses. Where a building moves, cracked grout and split sealant are usually the first signs.

Each job carries a 12-month guarantee, whatever its size.

When to call us in Aiginis

Soap scum and limescale build up on grout and stick to it. In time the grout under it darkens and breaks down, which is when replacing it makes sense.

Any of these means the joints need attention:

  • Splashback grout that has darkened
  • Corners filled with grout instead of silicone
  • Dirty, worn grout on a tiled floor
  • Grout in a colour the owner wants to change

Whether the job is in Aiginis itself or nearby, the right material for each joint matters as much as a neat finish.

Questions to ask before you book

  • When the joint can take water or movement
  • What product goes in the joint
  • How the joint is cleaned and prepared
  • What the quote includes, VAT included or not

10 questions to ask before booking

What affects the quote in Aiginis

Some jobs are bigger than they look, and some smaller. The main factors:

  • Whether there’s mould to deal with
  • How many rooms, windows or areas are involved
  • Whether the work is at height
  • The type of sealant required

Rather than a set price list, we look at what your job involves: the amount of work, the old material and the access. The price is agreed before we begin.

What we need to know

A few details help us give you an accurate quote. When you ask for a quote, tell us:

  • How many joints, rooms or windows are involved
  • Pictures of the joints, sent by email
  • If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel
  • Where the job is, and your postcode

We do not publish a price list, because every job is different. Instead, we send you a clear quote for your job. To arrange one, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

What happens on the day

Before we leave, we go over the finished joints with you. The visit itself generally takes a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room, depending on the amount of work. In smaller Scottish places, parking is usually less of an issue than access and distance. Tell us how to find the property and how to reach the work.

  1. Every tile area is checked for hollow or loose tiles first.
  2. We rake out the grout evenly, protecting the tile edges.
  3. The joints are vacuumed clean.
  4. New grout is pressed into the joints and the tiles are cleaned.
  5. Silicone goes into the corners and along the edges.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Keep children and pets away from the work area
  • Move anything stored near the joints
  • Mention any sign-in or site rules at work premises

How to get a quote

Getting a quote is simple: let us know the job and the location, and roughly how big it is. A few photos by email make the job easier to understand.

Your questions about regrouting in Aiginis

Is Aiginis within the area you cover?

Yes. Aiginis is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We work across all of Scotland, including the islands, where work is planned around ferry crossings. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

What guarantee comes with regrouting in Aiginis?

Every job comes with our one-year guarantee, wherever it is. We’re also fully insured and ARBOMaster approved.

Is it possible to regrout only the shower area?

Yes. Many jobs are just the shower walls, or the area where the grout has gone.

Will the sealant be renewed as well as the grout?

Most of the time, yes. Grout and sealant do different jobs, so both are renewed and it’s all in the quote.

Should I try DIY first?

For a simple, easy-to-reach joint, a careful DIYer can do a reasonable job. Most DIY failures come from sealing over old material, wet joints or too much sealant.

What should I tell you?

Where the job is, what the problem is and roughly how big it is. If you can, email a few photos.

What do you put in the joint?

It depends on the joint: anti-fungal sanitary silicone in wet areas, and other sealants where joints move or face the weather. Brands we use include Arbo and Everbuild.

Will it make a mess?

No. We work neatly, protect the area around the joints and tidy up afterwards.

What we cannot put right

Sealant is not the answer to every problem, and we’ll tell you before we start. Sealant will not put right:

  • Tiles that are chipped or split
  • A floor or wall that keeps moving
  • Loose tiles, which need refixing first

If you are not sure, just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will give you a straight answer.

Looking after it afterwards

A little care helps the new joints last. Our advice:

  • Skip wire brushes and scourers
  • Get any tile that moves checked promptly
  • Run the extractor fan during and after a shower
  • Wipe or squeegee the shower walls

We will tell you when the area can be used again. Stick to that time, and avoid scrubbing the new grout hard for the first few days.

If grout in the shower is washing out, act soon. Each shower drives water into the open joints and it can end up in the wall or the ceiling below.

What regrouting looks like in Aiginis

Aiginis is within about 1 mile of the coast. Coastal homes, holiday lets and guest houses can see heavy bathroom use in busy months, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. Scotland’s water is generally soft, so sealant and grout see less limescale than in much of England. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that doesn’t dry out.

Around Aiginis, as everywhere, regrouting is only as good as the preparation behind it.

DIY versus a professional finish

The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. Silicone doesn’t stick to old silicone, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. All the old material has to come out first.

A careful DIYer can reseal a simple joint, such as a straightforward joint indoors. Where it goes wrong is sealing over the old bead, working on a wet joint or overloading the gap.

Different surfaces, different methods

Shower walls

The grout in a shower takes the brunt of the water. We replace it and renew the silicone at the edges.

Corners and edges

Edges are resealed while we are there, so the whole area is finished together.
