Trusted new build mastic in Scourie

DIY sealant or a professional job?

Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and does not move well, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.

The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. New silicone won’t bond to old, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. Everything old must be removed first.

New build mastic in Scourie

In a new home, every joint should have a clean, even bead. When the finish is smeared, patchy or already cracking, it’s worth putting right early, before water gets into the floor or walls. We’re often asked to deal with skirting joints opening in the first winter and new-build shower sealant that has already split, on windows & doors, bathrooms & en suites and plot handovers.

Work in a place like Scourie is planned ahead, journey included. Outdoor plot mastic needs dry weather, but indoor floor and skirting joints can be sealed whatever the forecast.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. If anything is not right with it, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

What the job involves on each surface

Kitchens

Sink joints are wet all the time. We use a sealant suited to kitchens, food-safe where it’s needed.

Skirting and floors

Gaps under skirting are one of the most common new-build snags. A flexible sealant closes it without cracking like caulk.

The process

Our applicators work methodically: protect, prepare, seal, tidy. Typically it takes a few hours for most snagging lists, longer for a run of plots and we leave things clean and tidy. Outside jobs in Scourie need a dry day, because sealant won’t bond to a wet joint, so an outdoor job can move if the forecast changes. Work indoors is not affected.

  1. We start by agreeing which joints are on the list, from the snagging sheet or plot schedule.
  2. We cut out every bit of the failed or messy sealant.
  3. We clean off dust from the build and prime the surfaces where the product needs it.
  4. A sealant chosen for each area goes in and is tooled smooth.
  5. Finally, each room is checked and you’re given the cure time.

Scourie questions

Is new build mastic in Scourie guaranteed?

All our work, in Scourie and everywhere else, comes with a 12-month guarantee. We’re also fully insured and ARBOMaster approved.

Can you do new build mastic in Scourie?

Yes. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, and Scourie is part of that. Just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job.

Do you work for developers?

Yes. We take on second-fix sealant work across new plots. Good preparation keeps snagging to a minimum.

How do I get a quote for new build mastic in Scourie?

Every job is different, so each one gets its own quote. To get one, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and let us know what needs doing and where.

Do you take out the old sealant first?

Always. Sealing over old sealant is the main reason resealing fails early, and it’s something we never do.

Will you just run a new bead over the existing one?

No. The old sealant is cut out fully, then clean and prime the joint, before resealing.

Do I need to be at home?

That depends on where the joints are. For work indoors, someone needs to let us in, and for outside work we’ll agree access with you when we book.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

Of course. Ask your landlord first, and we can send them the quote if that helps.

New build mastic around Scourie

Around Scourie, as everywhere, new build mastic is only as good as the preparation behind it. Whether the job is in Scourie itself or nearby, the right material for each joint matters as much as a neat finish.

Honest limits

Sealant is not the answer to every problem, and we’d rather say so up front. It will not solve:

  • Deciding who is responsible under a builder’s warranty
  • Leaking fittings rather than failed sealant
  • Movement caused by a poorly fitted tray or bath

Not sure which it is? You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will tell you honestly before you book.

Why it’s worth doing now in Scourie

Running a new bead over the builder’s sealant might look tidy for a few weeks, but it won’t bond to the old layer. A lasting seal starts with removing the old one completely. Out of town in Scotland, exposed walls take a lot of weather, and damp in stone or harled walls takes a long time to dry once water gets behind a joint.

No two jobs are quite the same, so we quote each one individually. Size, access and the product the joint needs all make a difference.

Why book with us

  • Quality sealants from Arbo and Everbuild
  • We’re fully insured
  • Sealant colour chosen to suit
  • 20+ years of sealant experience

Read our cost guide or customer reviews.

Keeping the joints in good condition

How long the joints last depends on use and care. We suggest:

  • Wait for the cure time before using a resealed shower
  • Resist patching a failed seal with a tube from the DIY shop
  • Open a window or run the fan after bathing
  • Raise failed sealant with the developer while you’re covered

Follow the cure time we give you before the area gets wet. Silicone is generally left for about a day.

Do not let the snagging period run out with sealant problems unreported. After that, putting it right may fall to you, so raise it early.

How we quote for new build mastic

Your quote is based on your job. We take into account:

  • Any mould that needs treating
  • How many areas need sealing
  • Access and height
  • The size of the job

We do not show prices on the website, because the cost depends so much on the job itself. For a quick quote, please drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

  • Any previous sealing or DIY work
  • The rough size of the job
  • The type of property
  • What’s wrong with the joints now
