How we quote for new build mastic

You’ll get a clear quote before work begins. It takes into account:

  • The amount of work
  • Access and height
  • Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out
  • Any mould that needs treating

Leaving a failed joint normally makes the job bigger, not smaller, because water and mould keep working on it. If you’re not sure whether it needs doing, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk for an honest opinion and a quote.

Asking for a quote

What to tell us when you ask for a quote:

  • Where the job is, and your postcode
  • Whether it has been sealed before
  • What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking
  • If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel

There’s no standard price list, because every job is different. Instead, we give you a clear quote for your job. To get started, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

How we handle new build mastic in Crewe Toll

For builders and developers, we work through plots to the schedule you give us. Bathrooms, en suites, kitchens, frames and skirting are sealed ready for handover using the right product for each joint. We work on windows & doors, plot handovers and bathrooms & en suites, and the jobs we see most are gaps between new skirting and floors and second-fix sealing on new plots.

New flats and houses are still being built in and around Scotland’s cities, and new-home owners often find sealant snags in the first year or two.

We guarantee the work for a year. If something is not right with it in that time, tell us and we’ll put it right.

Questions from Crewe Toll

Do you cover Crewe Toll for new build mastic?

Yes. We work across all of Scotland, and Crewe Toll is part of that. Just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job, and we’ll give you a clear price.

Is new build mastic in Crewe Toll guaranteed?

Every job comes with our one-year guarantee, wherever it is. We’re fully insured, and an ARBOMaster approved applicator.

Is it worth trying it myself?

That depends on the joint. High-level, external movement and fire-rated joints are professional jobs.

Are you fully insured?

Yes, we are fully insured.

Why has my new-build shower seal failed already?

It’s common, and there are usually two reasons: movement as the house dries and settles, and sealant laid onto dust without primer. A proper reseal deals with both.

How do I get a quote for new build mastic in Crewe Toll?

Size, access and the old material all affect the cost. Ask us for a quote and we’ll talk you through it.

Do I have to be there?

We need access to the joints, so we’ll agree that with you when we book. For inside work, that normally means someone being in.

What colour sealant will you use?

It depends on the joint: white or clear for most sanitary joints, colours for worktops, floors and frames. We agree the colour before we start.

Why it’s worth doing now in Crewe Toll

A tube of sealant from the DIY shop won’t fix the cause: grit, unprimed surfaces and old layers underneath. Proper removal and preparation are what make it last. Wind-driven rain gets into any failed joint on the outside of a city building, and in a tall building in Crewe Toll, damp can travel a long way before it shows.

Rather than a set price list, we look at what your job involves: how many joints, what’s in them now and how we reach them. You’ll know the price before we begin.

Why us?

  • You choose the colour before work begins
  • Trusted Arbo and Everbuild sealants
  • Sealant colour chosen to suit

Joints and finishes in Crewe Toll homes

Crewe Toll is within about 1 mile of the coast. New homes near the sea put their outside mastic to work from day one, so it’s worth checking at snagging. Many new homes in Scotland are timber-framed, so skirting and sealant joints can open up as the building settles.

Around Crewe Toll, as everywhere, new build mastic is only as good as the preparation behind it. If you’ve bought a new home near Haymarket station, the sealant around baths, showers and frames is worth checking in the first year or two.

How it works

A visit follows a simple pattern: we look at the joints together, mask and protect the surrounding surfaces, carry out the job and clear up. It normally takes a few hours in a single home. Inside a flat in Crewe Toll, the job is planned with you; outside, shared parts may need the factor or other owners involved. Tell us which applies when you book.

  1. First, the list of joints is agreed from your snagging sheet or plot schedule.
  2. Every bit of the old builder’s sealant is cut out, with no layer left behind.
  3. We clean out the dust and grit left from the build.
  4. Primer goes on where the surface and product need it, then the new sealant.
  5. We tool every joint neatly and tell you when each area can be used.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Where the joints are inside, avoid wetting them before we arrive
  • Mention any parking rules near the property
  • Mention any tricky access

Advice

DIY versus a professional finish

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. Silicone does not stick to old silicone, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. Everything old must be removed first.

If you’ve already had a go yourself, that is fine. We remove it and do the joint properly.

What the job involves on each surface

Plot handovers

We work through plots to your schedule, sealing each room ready for handover. Each joint is cleaned and primed where needed so the sealant lasts.

Bathrooms and en suites

New-build bathrooms and en suites are where sealant fails most often. We cut out the failed bead, clean and prime, and reseal with anti-fungal sanitary silicone.

Aftercare tips

So the new joints stay in good condition:

  • Do not seal over failed sealant yourself
  • Clean sealant with mild detergent, not abrasives
  • Watch for new gaps as the house dries out
  • Report sealant problems to your builder during the snagging period

Keep pictures of the joints and any snagging correspondence with your builder. It helps if anything else comes up during the warranty period.

If a shower tray or bath seal splits in the first year, look for movement. Have it resealed, and the tray or bath checked, before it gets worse.
