About our gutter sealing in Tonge

Garage door frames let rain in when the sealant around them fails. The frame joint is cut out and resealed with an exterior sealant. If you are dealing with dripping gutter ends and damp patches inside below a leaking gutter, we can help, whatever the surface.

Outside joints can only be sealed when they’re dry, so work in Tonge is booked around the forecast. Tell us about access to all sides of the building, including outbuildings and garages.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If something isn’t right with it in that time, tell us and we will put it right.

Should I try it myself first?

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. New silicone will not bond to old, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. Everything old must be removed first.

Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, like a short, easy-to-reach joint indoors. Where it goes wrong is sealing over the old bead, working on a wet joint or overloading the gap.

What affects the quote in Tonge

Jobs vary more than people expect. The main factors:

  • The number and length of the joints
  • The number of rooms or windows
  • Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out
  • The product the joint needs

A failed joint rarely gets cheaper to fix by waiting, because water and mould keep working on it. If you are not sure whether it needs doing, call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email for an honest opinion and a quote.

What to tell us for a quote

Photos help, but a description is a good start. Try to tell us:

  • How we’d reach the joints
  • Roughly how big the job is
  • If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel
  • The address or postcode of the job

There’s no standard price list, as no two jobs are quite the same. Instead, we give you a clear price for your job. To get started, phone 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email.

Tonge: your questions answered

Is gutter sealing in a coastal place like Tonge any different?

Coastal homes put outside sealant through more weather than inland ones, so preparation and the right sealant matter all the more. Walls facing the sea are normally the first to need attention.

Do you work for landlords with property near Teynham station?

Yes. We work for letting agents and landlords as well as householders, and several properties can go on one quote. Just call 0345 464 0079 or email us with the address and what needs doing, and we will give you a clear price.

Do you offer different sealant colours?

Normally, yes. Sealants come in white, clear, grey and other colours for many products, and we will agree it with you first.

Will the old sealant be removed?

Yes, every time. New sealant will not bond properly to old, so the joint is cleaned back first.

Are you ARBOMaster approved?

Yes. We are approved under the ARBOMaster scheme, which is run for the Arbo sealant brand.

How long should I leave it?

That depends on the sealant used, so follow the cure time we give you.

Is it OK to seal over old sealant?

No, it will not last. It may look fine at first, but the new bead soon lifts. Removing the old sealant completely is the only lasting way.

Where is Mr Mastic based?

Walls and rooflines in Tonge

Tonge is close to the coast, where wind-driven rain is a fact of life and, nearer the shore, so is salt air. Both are hard on gutter, fascia and roofline joints, which can dry out and crack sooner where a building faces the weather. Compared with the north and west, the South East gets less rain, yet outdoor joints still have to be sealed dry, so jobs are booked with the weather in mind.

For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Sittingbourne Community College, movement joints, cladding joints and gutters on larger buildings need the same care as a house’s. In the older streets around Church of St Giles, old and new materials meet at the roofline and walls, which is where sealant earns its keep.

Tonge is about 2 miles east of Sittingbourne, in Kent. Our applicators cover gutter sealing for homeowners, landlords and businesses in Tonge, as part of our work across Kent. Common problems we fix in Tonge

Debris in the gutter keeps water sitting at the joints. Standing water finds the weakest joint and leaks out.

Look out for any of the following:

  • Gaps along fascia and soffit joints
  • End caps that drip every time it rains
  • Water dripping where gutter sections meet
  • Earlier gutter repairs that have peeled off

If you let a flat or house near Teynham station, a gutter joint that drips onto the wall can turn into a damp complaint, so it’s worth checking.

What your quote should include

  • The length of the guarantee
  • Whether they seal over old material or remove it
  • How long to leave it before use
  • Whether VAT is included

Aftercare tips

A little care helps the new joints last. We recommend:

  • Keep ladders off the guttering
  • Keep downpipes clear
  • Keep an eye out for wet patches below a joint
  • Clear leaves and moss from the gutters

Keep downpipes clear, so water can get away. Blockages push water back along the gutter.

A drip from a gutter joint won’t stop on its own. Water keeps hitting the same part of the wall and that can cause damp inside.

What we can’t put right

Honest advice matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what new sealant will not do:

  • Downpipes that are blocked or broken
  • Cracked, split or warped gutter sections
  • Boards that have decayed or split

Not sure which it is? You can phone 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and we’ll tell you honestly.

Leave it or put it right?

Leaving a leaking end cap can send water down the wall all winter. Resealing it is a quick job before the damage spreads. In a small place like Tonge, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.

The cost reflects the work involved, not a rough estimate. That is why we ask a few questions first.

The process

All our tools and materials come with us in the van, so you don’t need to buy or prepare anything. After a quick look at the joints together, we protect the area and start. It normally takes anything from an hour or two to a few hours. Somewhere as small as Tonge, access is often the only tricky part. For outside work, also let us know about exposed walls and any outbuildings involved.

  1. First, we find the drip and check the gutter isn’t cracked or sagging.
  2. The joint or trim is cleaned out and old sealant removed.
  3. We make sure the joint is dry before sealing.
  4. We seal the joint with a sealant made for gutters and outdoor use.
  5. We look along the gutter and clear debris around the joints.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Clear the area around the work
  • For indoor joints, keep the area dry beforehand if you can
  • Mention any sign-in or site rules at work premises
