Gutter sealing near The Murray

How we handle gutter sealing in The Murray

Failed sealant round a garage door frame lets rain blow in. The frame joint is cut out and resealed with an exterior sealant. Common call-outs are for damp on an inside wall under a dripping gutter and dripping gutter ends, on roofline trims, gutter joints and garage door frames.

Across smaller places in Scotland, stone and harled cottages, farm buildings and newer houses often stand exposed to wind and rain. Gutter joints and wall joints take a battering, so they need a sealant that moves with the building.

All of our work is guaranteed for twelve months, in The Murray and everywhere else we cover.

Common problems we fix in The Murray

Sagging sections pull joints apart. Resealing a sagging joint won’t last so the brackets need attention first.

These are the problems we’re asked about most:

  • Internal damp traced to a gutter joint
  • Old sealant on roofline trims that has split
  • Open joints in fascias and soffits
  • Drips from gutter joints and end caps

If you let a flat or house near East Kilbride station, a dripping gutter joint or loose fascia trim is easy to miss until damp shows inside.

Our hiring checklist

Should I try it myself first?

If you are set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still put it right.

Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, such as a straightforward joint indoors. The common mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using far too much.

How it works

Most of a good job is in the preparation, so that’s where we spend the time. Joints are cleaned back and dried before anything new goes in. In total, it normally takes an hour or two for a few joints, longer for a full run. For a place like The Murray, longer drives are planned in advance. Mention tracks, gates, ferries or anything else about the route.

  1. We look at the gutters, fascias and trims and agree the joints to seal.
  2. We clean out each joint.
  3. We make sure everything is dry.
  4. The sealant is applied and finished.
  5. We check our work before we leave.

Preparing for the visit

  • Tell us about any water getting in
  • Clear items away from the joints we’re working on
  • For business premises, tell us about site rules or sign-in

How to get a quote

A good description makes for an accurate quote. Tell us where the job is, what’s wrong and how much there is, and email pictures if that is easy.

What happens if it’s left?

A dripping stop end can soak the wall right through the wet months. It’s a small job to put right compared with treating damp later. Out of town in Scotland, exposed walls take a lot of weather, and once water gets behind a failed joint, damp in stone or harled walls is slow to dry out.

Homes and businesses are quoted the same way: the amount of work, the access and the products needed, plus any working-time requirements on site. Call for a quick quote and we’ll explain what it covers.
