Trusted gutter sealing in The Common

Gutter sealing for homes and businesses in The Common

Our work covers gutter joints and end caps as well as fascias and soffits plus roofline trims and garage door frames. It’s joint work, not replacing the gutter. If you are dealing with earlier gutter repairs that have peeled off and leaking gutter joints and stop ends, we can put it right, whatever the surface.

Somewhere as small as The Common, homes and farm buildings often face open ground, where walls and rooflines take the weather head on. Joints on those walls need a sealant that moves with the building and stays in place.

There’s a 12-month guarantee on every job, large or small.

What sealant work cannot fix

Some problems need a builder, plumber or other trade rather than us:

  • Blocked downpipes
  • Cracked, split or warped gutter sections
  • Rotten or damaged fascia boards

Not sure which it is? You can ring 0345 464 0079 or email us and we’ll tell you honestly before booking.

What we seal

  • Garage door frames
  • Soffit joints
  • Gutter joints
  • Gutter end caps
  • Roofline trims
  • uPVC fascias

Leave it or put it right?

New gutters cost far more than a few resealed joints. Where the gutter is in good order and only a joint leaks a reseal is all it needs. If it’s broken or sagging, a gutter installer needs to look. Where a wall is exposed, as many are in small places like The Common, wind-driven rain gets into any failed joint, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.

No two jobs are quite the same, so each one gets its own quote. The number of joints, how easy they are to reach and the sealant needed all play a part, and we’ll explain the quote if you ask.

Can I do it myself?

The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. New silicone won’t bond to old, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. Everything old must be removed first.

The difference is mostly in the preparation and the product. We take joints back to clean, dry surfaces, and the sealant is matched to the joint and its conditions, and the work is guaranteed for a year.

How the job changes by surface

Soffit joints

Gaps at soffit joints can let in draughts and insects. We close them with a suitable sealant.

Garage door frames

Garage door frames let rain in when their sealant fails. We cut it out and reseal.

Looking after it afterwards

After the cure time, these simple habits help:

  • Look along the fascias for open joints
  • Do not leave a sagging gutter
  • Keep the gutters clear of debris
  • Keep ladders off the guttering

Clear the gutters once or twice a year so water does not sit on the joints. Water left in a gutter tests every joint.

Once roofline sealant splits, water can get behind it. Resealing early protects the boards.

What happens on the day

On the day, there’s very little for you to do. Point us to the joints and we will get on with it. The job generally takes anything from an hour or two to a few hours. In a small place like The Common, access is usually the main thing to plan. For outside work, also let us know about exposed walls and any outbuildings involved.

  1. We look at where the water is coming from and check the gutter is not broken or sagging.
  2. We clean out the joint and take out the old sealant.
  3. We make sure the joint is dry before sealing.
  4. We seal the joint with a sealant made for gutters and outdoor use.
  5. We look along the gutter and clear debris around the joints.

Preparing for the visit

  • Plan for the work area to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Mention if the joints have been sealed before
  • On commercial sites, let us know about site rules

Walls and rooflines in The Common

Rainfall in the South East is lower than in much of the UK, but outside sealant still needs a dry, clean surface, so outdoor work is planned around the forecast.

If you look after a building such as Radwinter Church of England Voluntary Aided Primary School, its movement joints, gutters and trims need looking after like any other building’s. If you live in an older home near Church of St Mary the Virgin, an extension built onto an older house moves differently, and the joint between them takes the strain.

Your questions about gutter sealing in The Common

Is The Common within the area you cover?

Yes, The Common is covered. We work across London and the South East, from towns to the smallest places. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.

Can you do gutter sealing in The Common?

Yes. Our work covers London and the South East, and The Common is part of that. You can call 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and tell us what needs doing.

Can sealant stop a sagging gutter leaking?

It won’t last. The movement opens the joint again, so the fall and brackets need sorting first.

What do you put in the joint?

Products from Arbo and Everbuild, among others, chosen to suit the joint. We’ll tell you what we’re using and why.

Do you guarantee gutter sealing?

You get our one-year guarantee on every job.

Can landlords and businesses book you?

Yes. We work for householders, landlords, letting agents, businesses and hotels across Essex.

Do you take out the old sealant first?

Yes. Sealing over old sealant is the main reason resealing fails early, so we never do it.

Should I try DIY first?

That depends on the joint. High-level, external movement and fire-rated joints are professional jobs.
