Gutter sealing in Scatness, done properly
A leaking gutter joint marks the wall and wets the ground underneath. Resealing the joint is often all it needs, as long as the gutter is sound. We work on soffit joints, gutter end caps and uPVC fascias, and the jobs we see most are earlier gutter repairs that have peeled off and cracked sealant along roofline trims.
Stone walls need a stone-friendly sealant, as acetoxy products can attack some stone. On newer homes, the movement joints and roofline trims are what need watching.
We guarantee the work for a year. If there’s a problem with our work within the year, let us know and we’ll sort it.

When something else is needed
We will not take on work that won’t last, so here’s what sealant can’t put right:
- Guttering that needs replacing
- Gutters that have dropped or pulled away
- Water backing up from a blocked pipe
If you’re not sure, just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll give you a straight answer.
What we seal
- uPVC fascias
- Roofline trims
- Gutter joints
- Soffit joints
- Garage door frames
- Gutter end caps
What we do, step by step
At the end, we look at the finished work together and explain the cure time. The visit itself normally takes a few hours, depending on the number of joints and the access, depending on the size of the job. Outside jobs in Scatness need a dry day, because sealant won’t bond to a wet joint, so an outdoor job can move if the forecast changes. Indoor work goes ahead whatever the weather.
- First we agree which joints need sealing.
- Each joint is cleaned and any old sealant removed.
- The joints are dried.
- We apply exterior or gutter sealant and finish it neatly.
- The joints are checked once sealed.

DIY versus a professional finish
A DIY attempt does not rule out a professional job. We cut it out and start again, so tell us about it when you ask for a quote.
Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, such as a straightforward joint indoors. The common mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using far too much.

Businesses can book us for washrooms, kitchens, offices and more. For commercial premises, we can talk through working times when we quote.
Whether it’s one flat or a portfolio, the work is the same standard: old sealant fully removed, joints prepared properly and a one-year guarantee.
Scatness buildings and the weather
Scatness is close to the coast, and homes near the sea take more wind-driven rain, with salt in the air closer to the shore. That is hard on gutter, fascia and roofline joints, especially on the side facing the sea. Island weather, with its wind and salt spray, is tough on gutter, fascia and roofline joints.
For jobs in and around Scatness, choosing the right material for each joint is as important as a tidy finish.

How the job changes by surface
Gutter end caps
A leaking end cap sends water straight down the wall. It’s a quick reseal.
Soffit joints
Soffit joints are sealed in a colour to suit, where one is available.
Why deal with it now?
Replacing guttering is a much bigger job than sealing joints. If the gutter is sound and the drip is a joint, resealing is the sensible fix. If it has failed, we’ll tell you. Out of town in Scotland, exposed walls take a lot of weather, and once water gets behind a failed joint, damp in stone or harled walls is slow to dry out.
What you pay reflects the work, not guesswork. That is why we ask a few questions first and agree the price before starting.
Why us?
- Old sealant always removed completely
- Fully insured
- You choose the colour before work begins

What we are called out for in Scatness
Roofline sealant ages in sun and rain. It hardens, shrinks and splits over time.
People generally contact us after spotting something like this:
- Quick sealant fixes on gutters that didn’t last
- Old sealant on roofline trims that has split
- Gaps along fascia and soffit joints
- End caps that drip every time it rains
Around Scatness, as everywhere, gutter sealing is only as good as the preparation behind it.

Common questions in Scatness
Is Scatness in your area for gutter sealing?
Yes. We work across all of Scotland, and Scatness is part of that. Just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job, and we will send you a clear quote.
Is Scatness within the area you cover?
Yes, we do. We work across all of Scotland, islands included, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.
I’m a tenant. Can you help?
We are happy to deal with the tenant, landlord or agent. Just make sure your landlord agrees.
Do you replace gutters or fascias?
No. We seal leaking joints, end caps and trims. A gutter installer or roofer deals with replacement.
Can I do it myself?
You can, for simple jobs. The key is preparation: remove all the old material and work on a clean, dry joint. If it does not work out, we can redo it.
Do you seal gaps in fascias and soffits?
We do. Our work is the joints, and if a board is damaged, we’ll tell you.
Do you remove the old sealant?
Yes, always, and completely. New sealant will not bond properly to old, so any old material comes out before anything new goes in.
Where do you work from?
Our base is Crawley, with over 20 years’ experience. Our area covers South East England, London and Scotland.
