Restalrig Gutter Sealing
We cover Restalrig for sealing leaking gutter joints, end caps, fascias, soffits and roofline trims. Old material cut out, joints cleaned and sealed neatly.
- Open joints in fascias and soffits
- Quick sealant fixes on gutters that didn’t last
- Streaks down the brickwork from a leaking joint
The process
Every visit runs the same way: we look at the joints together, mask and protect the surrounding surfaces, do the work and clear up. It normally takes anything from an hour or two to a few hours. In a city area like Restalrig, parking may be by permit or pay-and-display, so tell us what’s nearby. For flats, mention the door entry system and any shared-stair arrangements.
- First, we find the drip and check the gutter isn’t cracked or sagging.
- The joint or trim is cleaned out and old sealant removed.
- The joint is dried, because sealant won’t bond to a wet surface.
- We seal the joint with a sealant made for gutters and outdoor use.
- The run is checked and any debris near the joints is cleared.
Preparing for the visit
- Keep children and pets away from the work area
- Move anything stored near the joints
- Mention any sign-in or site rules at work premises

Advice
Gutter sealing in Restalrig, done properly
A drip at a gutter joint is easy to ignore, but the water lands on the same spot every time it rains. Sealing it is quick while the gutter is still sound. Typical jobs include garage door frames letting rain in and old sealant on roofline trims that has split, on gutter end caps, uPVC fascias and soffit joints.
In a Scottish city tenement, the roof, gutters and outside walls are shared by all the flats. In Restalrig, work on shared parts of a tenement is normally agreed between owners, often with a factor arranging it.
The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If there’s a problem with our work within the year, let us know and we will sort it.

Honest limits
Sealant is not the answer to every problem, and we’ll tell you before any work starts. It will not solve:
- Leaks from the roof rather than a joint
- Cracked, split or warped gutter sections
- Blocked downpipes
If in doubt, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll say what we think before booking.
Surfaces we seal
- uPVC fascias
- Roofline trims
- Garage door frames
- Soffit joints
- Gutter joints
- Gutter end caps
How to look after the new joints
So the new joints stay in good condition:
- Don’t leave a sagging gutter
- Keep downpipes clear
- Look along the fascias for open joints
- Watch the wall under the gutters for staining
A sagging gutter needs its brackets checked. If it drops, the joints will open.
Leaking gutter joints get worse over time. The same spot gets soaked every time it rains and that can cause damp inside.
Questions from Restalrig
Does the coastal weather in Restalrig affect outside sealant?
Near the coast, wind-driven rain and, nearer the shore, salt air make outside sealant work harder. The right product, a clean joint and the right depth all help it cope.
Do you work for landlords with property near Edinburgh Waverley station?
Yes, landlords and agents are among the people we work for. Just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk with the address and what needs doing, and we’ll give you a clear price.
How long should I leave it?
Most sealants are touch-dry well before they’re fully cured. We will give you the cure time for the product we used before we leave.
Is there any odour?
Sometimes, a little. It fades as the sealant cures, and ventilation helps.
Do you hold any approvals?
Yes. We’re ARBOMaster approved, the scheme for applicators of Arbo sealants.
Are you insured?
Yes, we’re fully insured for domestic and commercial work.
Can you do several jobs on one visit?
Yes, and it often makes sense. Combining jobs makes good use of the visit, so mention them when you ask for a quote.
Can you work on commercial sites?
Yes. Hotels, offices and other businesses use us.
DIY sealant or a professional job?
If you’re set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still put it right.
Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, like a short, easy-to-reach joint indoors. Where it goes wrong is sealing over the old bead, working on a wet joint or overloading the gap.
How we quote for gutter sealing
Some jobs are bigger than they look, and some smaller. The main factors:
- The number and length of the joints
- The old material and how stubborn it is
- The product the joint needs
- Whether there’s mould to deal with
Leaving a failed joint normally makes the job bigger, not smaller, as water and mould keep getting in. If you’re unsure, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll give you an honest view and a quote.
Asking for a quote
Photos help, but a description is a good start. Try to tell us:
- What’s wrong with the joints now
- Photos by email, if that’s easy
- The rough size of the job
- The type of property
For a quote, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk with the location and a short description of the problem. You’ll have a clear quote before work begins.
For landlords and businesses
A neglected joint can let water reach the structure, which matters even more when someone else lives there. Resealing at the right time is simple maintenance.
Housing providers, facilities teams and property managers book us too in Restalrig and across Edinburgh. Several sites can be quoted together.
Why it’s worth doing now in Restalrig
A dripping stop end can soak the wall right through the wet months. Resealing it is a quick job compared with treating damp later. In a Scottish city tenement, failed sealant affects more than one flat: a leak can come through the ceiling below, and gaps in shared walls or fire-rated joints matter to every flat.
Combining jobs into one visit is usually more efficient than separate visits. We will send you a clear quote for the lot.

Walls and rooflines in Restalrig
Restalrig is close to the coast, where wind-driven rain is a fact of life and, nearer the shore, so is salt air. Both are hard on gutter, fascia and roofline joints, which can dry out and crack sooner where a building faces the weather. Private landlords in Scotland must meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping a home wind and watertight, and sound outside sealant is part of that.
In the older streets around Restalrig Parish Church, older walls, gutters and the joints where extensions meet them need a flexible sealant. Managing a site like Leith Academy? Then movement joints, cladding joints and gutters on larger buildings need the same care as a house’s. If you let a flat or house near Edinburgh Waverley station, a gutter joint that drips onto the wall can turn into a damp complaint, so it’s worth checking.
