Trusted gutter sealing in Polmont

Gutter sealing for homes and businesses in Polmont

We do not replace gutters, fascias or roofs. What sealant does is close joints and it cannot mend broken brackets, split sections or blocked downpipes. Common call-outs are for failed sealant on a garage door frame and wet patches on the wall under a gutter joint, across gutter end caps, gutter joints and uPVC fascias.

In and around a place like Polmont, many buildings face open ground and take the full weather. Outside joints on exposed walls work hard.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If something isn’t right with it in that time, tell us and we will put it right.

Outside joints around Polmont

Polmont is within about 3 miles of the coast, and homes near the sea take more wind-driven rain, with salt in the air closer to the shore. Both are hard on gutter, fascia and roofline joints, which can dry out and crack sooner where a building faces the weather. Harled (roughcast) walls are common in Scotland, and where harling meets frames, pipes and other materials, the joint needs a flexible sealant that grips a rough surface.

Letting a property close to Polmont station? Then a dripping gutter joint or loose fascia trim is easy to miss until damp shows inside.

Do you need gutter sealing in Polmont?

Gutter joints rely on seals that age. Sun and cold make the gutter expand and contract and that movement opens up tired joints.

People usually contact us when they notice one of these:

  • Trim joints where the sealant has failed
  • Leaking gutter joints and stop ends
  • Damp patches inside below a leaking gutter
  • Earlier gutter repairs that have peeled off

For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Graeme High School, movement joints, cladding joints and gutters on larger buildings need the same care as a house’s.

10 questions to ask before you book

Why act early in Polmont

A bead squeezed onto a wet joint might hold for a while, but it soon lets go. Cleaning out and drying the joint first is what makes it last. Around Polmont, water from a failed joint in an older stone home can soak into timber and plaster, which is a far bigger job than the sealant.

Leaving a failed joint normally makes the job bigger, not smaller, as water and mould keep getting in. If you’re not sure whether it needs doing, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk for an honest opinion and a quote.

Gutter end caps

A leaking end cap sends water straight down the wall. It’s a quick reseal.

Gutter joints

When a joint drips, the gutter is often still sound. Resealing is normally enough.

When it is not the sealant

Some problems need a builder, plumber or other trade rather than us:

  • Blocked downpipes
  • Fascias that need replacing
  • Brackets that have snapped or loosened

Not sure which it is? You can drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will tell you honestly.

How to look after the new joints

No joint lasts for ever, but care makes a real difference. A few tips:

  • Get a dropping gutter looked at quickly
  • Deal with a drip before winter
  • Rest ladders on the wall, not the gutter
  • Clean out the gutters once or twice a year

If a gutter starts to sag, get the brackets looked at. If it drops, the joints will open.

Once roofline sealant splits, water can get behind it. Resealing early protects the boards.

The process

You don’t need to clear the whole room or building before we come, just the space around the work. We protect the rest, and the work takes anything from an hour or two to a few hours for a typical job. Outside jobs in Polmont need a dry day, because sealant won’t bond to a wet joint, so an outdoor job can move if the forecast changes. Indoor work goes ahead whatever the weather.

  1. We find where the water is coming from and check the gutter is sound.
  2. We remove the old sealant and clean the joint.
  3. We dry the joint so the new sealant can bond.
  4. We seal the joint with a sealant made for gutters.
  5. We check the run and clear debris near the joints.

Preparing for the visit

  • Move anything stored near the joints
  • On commercial sites, let us know about site rules
  • Mention any parking rules near the property
