How we handle gutter sealing in Longcroft

For gutter sealant to hold, the joint has to be clean and dry. So the old sealant and grime come out first and the joint is dried before the new sealant goes in. Typical jobs include stop ends leaking at the end of a run and open joints in fascias and soffits, across gutter joints, uPVC fascias and roofline trims.

In and around a place like Longcroft, many buildings face open ground and take the full weather. Gutter joints and wall joints take a battering, so they need a sealant that moves with the building.

Every job comes with our one-year guarantee.

  • Leaks from the roof rather than a joint
  • Downpipes that are blocked or broken

What affects the quote in Longcroft

There’s no set price list. What we look at:

  • Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out
  • Any mould that needs treating
  • The type of sealant required
  • Whether the work is at height

The cost reflects the work involved, not a rough estimate. That is why we ask a few questions first and give you a clear price before any work starts.

What we need to know

A few details help us give you an accurate quote. When you ask for a quote, tell us:

  • The type of property
  • Any previous sealing or DIY work
  • A few pictures by email, if you can
  • What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking

We do not publish a price list, as no two jobs are quite the same. Instead, your job gets its own clear quote. To get started, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Outside joints around Longcroft

Plenty of Scottish homes have harled walls, and where harling meets frames, pipes and other materials, the joint needs a flexible sealant that grips a rough surface. Under the Repairing Standard, private landlords in Scotland have to keep homes wind and watertight, and failed outside joints work against that.

If you live in an older home near Haggs Parish Church, an extension built onto an older house moves differently, and the joint between them takes the strain. Managing a site like Denny High School? Then its movement joints, gutters and trims need looking after like any other building’s. If you let a flat or house near Cumbernauld station, a dripping gutter joint or loose fascia trim is easy to miss until damp shows inside.

Questions from Longcroft

Do you cover smaller places like Longcroft?

Yes. Longcroft is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

Can you do gutter sealing in Longcroft?

Yes, Longcroft is within the area we cover. We work across all of Scotland. You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us what needs doing, and we will give you a clear price.

Can you quote for more than one area?

Yes, we can. Several rooms, windows or areas can go on one quote.

Can sealant stop a sagging gutter leaking?

Not for long. The movement opens the joint again, so the fall and brackets need sorting first.

Will you leave a mess?

Tidy work is part of the job. We protect what’s around the joints.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

Yes. Check with your landlord; we can send the quote to them too.

Can you reach high gutters?

Low gutters are simple to reach. If it’s higher up, let us know and we will confirm the access.

Are you insured?

Yes. We are fully insured, with over 20 years’ experience in sealant work.

Can I do it myself?

If you’re set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still put it right.

If you’ve already had a go yourself, that is fine. We cut it out and start again, so just mention it when you contact us.

How the visit works

Every visit runs the same way: we check the joints, mask and protect the surrounding surfaces, carry out the job and tidy away. Most jobs take anything from an hour or two to a few hours. In smaller Scottish places, parking is usually less of an issue than access and distance. Tell us how to find the property and how to reach the work, and the visit is planned around that.

  1. First, we find the drip and check the gutter is not cracked or sagging.
  2. The joint or trim is cleaned out and old sealant removed.
  3. The joint is dried, because sealant will not bond to a wet surface.
  4. An exterior or gutter sealant is applied to the joint.
  5. The run is checked and any debris near the joints is cleared.

Preparing for the visit

  • Move anything stored near the joints
  • Tell us about any water getting in
  • Where the joints are inside, avoid wetting them before we arrive

How to look after the new joints

How long the joints last depends on use and care. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Rest ladders on the wall, not the gutter
  • Check that water runs out of the downpipes
  • Get leaks sealed before the wet months
  • Don’t leave a sagging gutter

If a gutter starts to sag, get the brackets looked at. Movement will pull the joints open again.

The sooner a gutter leak is sealed, the less water reaches the wall. We’ll let you know if the gutter needs more than sealant.
