Outside joints around Freemantle

Freemantle is within about 1 mile of the coast, where wind-driven rain is a fact of life and, nearer the shore, so is salt air. That is hard on gutter, fascia and roofline joints, especially on the side facing the sea. With historic houses such as Southampton Tudor House and Garden (about 1.2 miles south-east) nearby, there’s older building stock in the area around Freemantle as well as newer homes. Where a home is older, older brick and stone need a sealant that suits them, at the right joint depth.

Rented homes near Millbrook (Hants) station change hands often, and a gutter joint that drips onto the wall can turn into a damp complaint, so it’s worth checking. If you live in an older home near Christ Church, the joints between older walls, newer extensions and the roofline need a sealant that can move.

Freemantle is about 1 mile west of Southampton, in Southampton. Freemantle gets the same service as everywhere we cover: the old material taken out, joints prepared properly and a 12-month guarantee. Across Southampton, we cover 40 places, and Freemantle is one of them.

Every address in SO15, SO16 and SO17 is within our area for gutter sealing. Streets in the area include May Road, Park Road and Pitt Road, all of which we cover. Freemantle sits on or near the A33. Gutter sealing in Freemantle

Open fascia and soffit joints spoil the roofline and can let weather in. They’re sealed in a matching colour where possible. We work on gutter end caps, uPVC fascias and roofline trims, and people most often call us about rain getting in around a garage door and fascia boards with gaps between them.

Homes around Freemantle range from older cottages to newer houses, with walls and rooflines of every type. Older gutters and trims need their joints resealed; newer brick and render need their movement joints kept sound.

All our work comes with a 12-month guarantee, wherever you are in Southampton.

Keeping the joints in good condition

Once the sealant has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Watch the wall under the gutters for staining
  • Deal with a drip before winter
  • Make sure downpipes aren’t blocked
  • Clean out the gutters once or twice a year

Check the joints after heavy rain now and then. It’s the easiest time to see a leak.

Once roofline sealant splits, water can get behind it. Resealing early protects the boards.

What sealant work can’t fix

Honest advice matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what sealant can’t fix:

  • Gutters that have dropped or pulled away
  • Cracked, split or warped gutter sections
  • Blocked downpipes

If in doubt, ring 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and we will say what we think.

Freemantle questions

I let a flat near Millbrook (Hants) station. Can you help?

Yes, landlords and agents are among the people we work for, and several properties can go on one quote. Just call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email with the address and what needs doing, and we will give you a clear quote.

Does living near the coast affect gutter sealing in Freemantle?

Coastal homes put outside sealant through more weather than inland ones, so preparation and the right sealant matter all the more. Walls facing the sea are usually the first to need attention.

What do you need from me for a quote?

Tell us what needs doing and where, with pictures by email if possible. We’ll ask anything else we need to know.

What does gutter sealing cost?

Every job is different, so each one gets its own quote. To get one, call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and tell us what needs doing and where.

How long before the joint can be used?

It depends on the product. We tell you how long to leave it before we go.

Can you match the sealant colour?

We help you choose a colour that suits. The product needed can limit the range.

Where do you work from?

We work from Crawley. Our applicators cover Freemantle, along with the rest of our area.

Can you work on commercial sites?

Yes. We work in offices, washrooms, hotels and other commercial premises, as well as homes. We can talk about working times when we quote.

For landlords and businesses

A neglected joint can let water reach the structure, which matters even more when someone else lives there. Keeping joints in good order is simple maintenance that we can handle for you.

From a single let to a portfolio, the work is the same standard: the old material taken out, careful preparation and a 12-month guarantee.

Why act early in Freemantle

Water from a leaking joint hits the same spot every time. Over time that can stain brickwork, mark render and encourage damp so early sealing is worthwhile. Homes in smaller places like Freemantle can face more weather, and failed outside joints let damp into walls. Indoors, a failed seal lets water into floors and panels as it would anywhere.

Instead of a standard rate, we price the job in front of us: the amount of work, the old material and the access. You’ll know the price before we begin.

What you get with us

  • We agree the colour with you first
  • Neat joints and a tidy finish

The process

Most of a good job is in the preparation, and we don’t rush it. Every joint is cleaned and dried before new material goes in. All told, the work takes a few hours, depending on the number of joints and the access. A visit to Freemantle is planned like any other: the time, the access and where to park are agreed in advance. If the work is outside, the weather plays a part, as sealant needs a dry surface.

  1. First we trace the drip and check the gutter is not damaged.
  2. The old sealant and dirt are cleaned out of the joint.
  3. We dry the joint so the new sealant can bond.
  4. A gutter sealant is applied to the joint.
  5. We check the run and clear debris near the joints.

Before we arrive

  • Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit
  • On commercial sites, let us know about site rules
  • Mention any leaks or damp you’ve noticed

Can I do it myself?

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. New silicone will not bond to old, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. All the old material has to come out first.

Overfilling a joint is a classic DIY mistake. A heavy bead looks messy and copes badly with movement, and the joint depth matters as much as the finish.

Signs you need gutter sealing in Freemantle

Sealant laid on a wet or dirty joint fails early. Some quick repairs peel off within a season or two for this reason.

Most people get in touch after spotting one of these:

  • Trim joints where the sealant has failed
  • Water running down the wall below the gutter
  • Fascia boards with gaps between them
  • Water dripping where gutter sections meet

Schools such as Freemantle Church of England Community Academy are buildings too, and its movement joints, gutters and trims need looking after like any other building’s.

What your quote should include

  • How long to leave it before use
  • How hidden problems are handled
  • Which colour the sealant will be
  • What product goes in the joint
