Gutter sealing in Eddleston

About our gutter sealing in Eddleston

Gutter and fascia replacement is not our trade, and nor is roofing. Sealant fixes joints; it will not fix a broken bracket, a cracked section or a blocked downpipe. If you have rain getting in around a garage door and cracked sealant along roofline trims, we can help, on soffit joints, roofline trims and gutter joints alike.

Outside joints can only be sealed when they’re dry, so work in Eddleston depends on the weather, and longer journeys are planned in advance. Let us know about access to every wall and roofline.

You are covered for a year from the day we finish. If anything isn’t right with it, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Keeping the joints in good condition

After the cure time, these simple habits help:

  • Keep the gutters clear of debris
  • Check fascia and soffit joints for gaps
  • Make sure downpipes are not blocked
  • Have sagging gutters refixed early

Clear the gutters once or twice a year so water doesn’t sit on the joints. Standing water strains every seal.

The sooner a gutter leak is sealed, the less water reaches the wall. We’ll let you know if the gutter needs more than sealant.

How the visit works

A visit follows a simple pattern: we look at the joints together, protect the area around them, do the work and clear up. It normally takes anything from an hour or two to a few hours. Outside jobs in Eddleston need a dry day, because sealant will not bond to a wet joint, so external jobs may need to move if the day turns wet. Work indoors isn’t affected.

  1. First, we find the drip and check the gutter isn’t cracked or sagging.
  2. Old sealant and dirt are removed from the joint.
  3. We make sure the joint is dry before sealing.
  4. An exterior or gutter sealant is applied to the joint.
  5. We check the run and clear any debris we find while we’re there.

Preparing for the visit

  • Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit
  • Mention if the joints have been sealed before
  • Mention any parking rules near the property

Advice

What we’re called out for in Eddleston

Leaves and moss hold water in the gutter. Water that cannot drain works its way through a weak joint and leaks out.

People generally contact us after spotting something like this:

  • Cracked sealant along roofline trims
  • Quick sealant fixes on gutters that didn’t last
  • Water dripping where gutter sections meet
  • Gaps along fascia and soffit joints

In and around Eddleston, as anywhere, good gutter sealing starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.

What your quote should include

  • What happens if the job turns out different
  • Whether all the old sealant comes out first
  • When the joint can take water or movement
  • What guarantee comes with the work

Choosing a sealant specialist

Landlord and commercial work in Eddleston

A neglected joint can let water reach the structure, which is a bigger problem in a rented property. Resealing at the right time is simple maintenance that we can handle for you.

We also work for property managers and facilities teams. Several sites can go on one quote, and we’re fully insured for the work.

What affects the cost of gutter sealing

We do not publish a price list, because jobs vary so much. The quote depends on:

  • The type of sealant required
  • Working hours on commercial sites
  • Any mould that needs treating
  • How many areas need sealing

Combining jobs into one visit usually makes better use of the time than several visits. You’ll get one clear quote for the whole job.

What to tell us for a quote

There’s no need for technical detail. It helps if you can tell us:

  • Where the job is, and your postcode
  • Whether it has been sealed before
  • How many joints, rooms or windows are involved
  • What’s wrong with the joints now

The more we know about the job, the more useful the quote. Tell us where the job is, what’s wrong and how much there is, and add pictures by email if you can.

Outside joints around Eddleston

Private landlords in Scotland must meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping a home wind and watertight, and sound outside sealant is part of that. Harled (roughcast) walls are common in Scotland, and where harling meets frames, pipes and other materials, the joint needs a flexible sealant that grips a rough surface.

In the older streets around Eddleston Parish Church, old and new materials meet at the roofline and walls, which is where sealant earns its keep.

Questions from Eddleston

Is Eddleston within the area you cover?

Yes. Eddleston is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

Is gutter sealing in Eddleston guaranteed?

Every job comes with our one-year guarantee, wherever it is. We are also fully insured and ARBOMaster approved.

Will sealing fix a sagging gutter?

Not for long. The joint will pull apart, so the fall and brackets need sorting first.

Is sealing fascia joints something you do?

Yes, it’s a common job. The gaps are cleaned and sealed neatly.

Is it messy?

We keep the work tidy. Nearby surfaces are protected, and we clear up when we’re done.

Will you clear out my gutters?

We clear debris near the joints, so the sealant can bond. A full gutter clean is a separate job.

How long does gutter sealing take?

That depends on the amount of work, but as a guide it takes anything from an hour or two to a few hours. We’ll give you a better idea when we quote.

Where are you based?

We are a Crawley-based firm. We work across South East England, London and Scotland.

When something else is needed

To be straight with you, there are a few things sealant will not fix:

  • Brackets that have snapped or loosened
  • Cracked, split or warped gutter sections
  • Roof leaks, slipped tiles or failed flashing (a roofer’s job)

If in doubt, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will say what we think before you book.

Joints and surfaces we work on

  • Soffit joints
  • uPVC fascias
  • Gutter end caps
  • Gutter joints
  • Roofline trims
  • Garage door frames

Leave it or put it right?

You do not need new fascias just because the joints have opened. A neat seal closes the gaps as long as the boards are in good condition. Exposed walls in smaller Scottish places take a lot of wind and rain, and once water gets behind a failed joint, damp in stone or harled walls is slow to dry out.
