Gutter sealing for homes and businesses in East Mersea

A leaking gutter joint marks the wall and wets the ground underneath. Resealing the joint is often all it needs if the gutter isn’t damaged. We’re often asked to deal with trim joints where the sealant has failed and streaks down the brickwork from a leaking joint, on uPVC fascias, roofline trims and soffit joints.

Outside joints can only be sealed when they’re dry, so work in East Mersea is booked around the forecast. Tell us about access to all sides of the building, including outbuildings and garages.

Each job carries a 12-month guarantee, whatever its size.

Gutter sealing in East Mersea: local notes

East Mersea is close to the coast, where wind-driven rain is a fact of life and, nearer the shore, so is salt air. That is hard on gutter, fascia and roofline joints, especially on the side facing the sea. Rainfall in the South East is lower than in much of the UK, yet outdoor joints still have to be sealed dry, so jobs are booked with the weather in mind.

For landlords with property near Alresford station, a dripping gutter joint or loose fascia trim is easy to miss until damp shows inside.

What sealant work can’t fix

Honest advice matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what new sealant will not do:

  • Blocked downpipes
  • Roof leaks, slipped tiles or failed flashing (a roofer’s job)
  • Fascias that need replacing

Not sure which it is? You can ring 0345 464 0079 or email us and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.

DIY sealant or a professional job?

Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A heavy bead looks messy and copes badly with movement, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. Silicone does not stick to old silicone, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. All the old material has to come out first.

What happens if it’s left?

You do not need new fascias just because the joints have opened. A neat seal closes the gaps as long as the boards are in good condition. Older cottages and farmhouses around East Mersea can have timber floors and frames, where water from a failed joint can cause rot if it’s left.

What you pay reflects the work, not a rough estimate. That’s why we ask a few questions first and give you a clear price before we start.

Questions from East Mersea

Does the coastal weather in East Mersea affect outside sealant?

Near the coast, wind-driven rain and, nearer the shore, salt air make outside sealant work harder. The right product, a clean joint and the right depth all help it cope.

Can you help a landlord with a rental near Alresford station?

Yes. We work for landlords and letting agents as well as homeowners, and several properties can be quoted together. Just call 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email with the address and what needs doing, and we will give you a clear price.

Are you insured?

Yes. We’re fully insured, and we can confirm the details when we quote.

What do you need from me for a quote?

Where the job is, what the problem is and roughly how big it is. Photos by email help too.

Can you match the sealant colour?

We help you choose a colour that suits. The choice depends on the product the joint needs.

Which products do you use?

It depends on the joint: anti-fungal sanitary silicone in wet areas, and other sealants where joints move or face the weather. We use products from Arbo and Everbuild.

Can you seal over the old sealant?

No. New silicone won’t bond to old silicone, and it traps any mould or water underneath. It all has to come out first.

Will sealant fix a dripping gutter joint?

In many cases, yes. Cleaning, drying and resealing the joint generally works. A split or warped section needs replacing.

What happens on the day

We bring everything the job needs with us. Once we’ve agreed what’s being done, the area is protected and the work begins. It normally takes a few hours, depending on the number of joints and the access. Somewhere like East Mersea needs a little journey planning: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. We bring what the job needs, so it can be finished in one trip where possible.

  1. We look at the gutters, fascias and trims and agree the joints to seal.
  2. Each joint is cleaned and any old sealant removed.
  3. We make sure everything is dry.
  4. We apply exterior or gutter sealant and finish it neatly.
  5. We check our work before we leave.

Preparing for the visit

  • Move anything stored near the joints
  • Mention if the joints have been sealed before
  • Tell us about access, such as stairs, a lift or high-level joints

Surface by surface

uPVC fascias

Gaps in fascias spoil the roofline. A neat bead closes them up.

Gutter end caps

A leaking end cap sends water straight down the wall. It’s a quick reseal.

When to call us in East Mersea

Water spilling over a blocked gutter is often mistaken for a leak. If the downpipe is blocked, water has nowhere to go so we check the cause first.

Signs it’s time to call us include:

  • Water running down the wall below the gutter
  • Leaking gutter joints and stop ends
  • Garage door frames letting rain in
  • Trim joints where the sealant has failed

Homes close to Parish Church of St Edmund King and Martyr include some older properties, and older walls, gutters and the joints where extensions meet them need a flexible sealant.

Questions to ask before you book

  • How hidden problems are handled
  • Whether all the old sealant comes out first
  • When the joint can take water or movement
  • How the surfaces are prepared before sealing
