About our gutter sealing in Cullivoe
Sealant only bonds to a clean, dry joint. That’s why we take out the old sealant and dirt first and the joint is dried before the new sealant goes in. If you are dealing with old gutter sealant that has let go and dripping gutter ends, we can put it right, on soffit joints, roofline trims and gutter joints alike.
Outside joints can only be sealed when they’re dry, so work in Cullivoe depends on the weather, and longer journeys are planned in advance. Let us know about access to every wall and roofline.
Every job comes with our one-year guarantee.

What we’re called out for in Cullivoe
Water spilling over a blocked gutter is often mistaken for a leak. A blocked downpipe makes water back up so we check the cause first.
Most people get in touch when they notice one of these:
- Leaking gutter joints and stop ends
- Garage door frames letting rain in
- Open joints in fascias and soffits
- Streaks down the brickwork from a leaking joint
Around Cullivoe, as everywhere, gutter sealing is only as good as the preparation behind it.
Questions to ask before booking
- Is the old sealant removed completely?
- How long the guarantee is
- Who turns up on the day
- Whether the sealant suits the joint
Your questions about gutter sealing in Cullivoe
Does the coastal weather in Cullivoe affect outside sealant?
Near the sea, outside joints face more wind, rain and salt than they would inland, so preparation and the right sealant matter all the more. Walls facing the sea are usually the first to need attention.
Will you come out to Cullivoe?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, including the islands, where work is planned around ferry crossings. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.
Is sealing fascia joints something you do?
We do. We seal the joints, not replace the boards, and if a board is damaged, we’ll tell you.
Do you install new fascias or gutters?
Replacement is not our trade. We’ll tell you if the gutter needs replacing.
Do you offer different sealant colours?
Yes. White, clear and grey are common, and other colours are available for many products, and we’ll agree it with you first.
Do you hold any approvals?
Yes. ARBOMaster is the approved applicator scheme for Arbo sealants, and we’re part of it.
Do you work for landlords and businesses?
Yes. As well as homeowners, we work for landlords, agents, businesses and hotels.
Do you do commercial work?
Yes. We work in offices, washrooms, hotels and other commercial premises, as well as homes. We can talk about working times when we quote.
Gutter sealing in Cullivoe: local notes
Cullivoe is within about 1 mile of the coast, and homes near the sea take more wind-driven rain, with salt in the air closer to the shore. Both are hard on gutter, fascia and roofline joints, which can dry out and crack sooner where a building faces the weather. Private landlords in Scotland must meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping a home wind and watertight, and failed outside joints work against that.
For an older house near a landmark such as St Olaf's Church, older walls, gutters and the joints where extensions meet them need a flexible sealant.

How we quote for gutter sealing
For a quick quote, just ask. The main things that affect it are:
- Whether there’s mould to deal with
- How easy the joints are to reach
- How many areas need sealing
- When we can work, for business premises
Homes and businesses are quoted the same way: the amount of work, how we reach it and what it needs. Ask us for a quote and we’ll go through it with you.
What to tell us for a quote
Photos help, but a description is a good start. Try to tell us:
- Any previous sealing or DIY work
- Any access issues, like height or stairs
- Photos by email, if that’s easy
- The rough size of the job
To get a quote, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk with the location and a short description of the problem. You’ll have a clear quote before we start.
What we can’t put right
We’d rather tell you now than do work that will not last, so here’s what sealant can’t put right:
- Sagging gutters or broken brackets
- Boards that have decayed or split
- Problems with the roof covering
If you are not sure, just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking.

- Soffit joints
- Garage door frames
- Roofline trims
How to look after the new joints
To keep the joints looking good and working properly:
- Look at the gutters while it’s raining
- Clear leaves and moss from the gutters
- Deal with a drip before winter
- Do not lean ladders against the gutter itself
A sagging gutter needs its brackets checked. If it drops, the joints will open.
Leaking gutter joints get worse over time. The same spot gets soaked every time it rains and that can cause damp inside.
DIY sealant or a professional job?
The difference is mostly in the preparation and the product. Joints are cleaned back to sound surfaces and dried, and the sealant is matched to the joint and its conditions, then guaranteed for a year.
The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. New silicone will not bond to old, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. All the old material has to come out first.
Leave it or put it right?
New gutters cost far more than a few resealed joints. Where the gutter is in good order and only a joint leaks, resealing is the sensible fix. If it’s broken or sagging, a gutter installer needs to look. Around Cullivoe, water from a failed joint in an older stone home can soak into timber and plaster.
We don’t show prices on the website, because the cost depends so much on the job itself. For a quick quote, please send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk.

What happens on the day
Good joint work is mostly preparation, so that’s where we spend the time. Every joint is cleaned and dried before new material goes in. In total, it usually takes a few hours, depending on the number of joints and the access. In smaller Scottish places, parking is usually less of an issue than access and distance. Let us know how to find you and how to reach the joints.
- We find where the water is coming from and check the gutter is sound.
- The old sealant and dirt are cleaned out of the joint.
- The joint is dried before sealing.
- We seal the joint with a sealant made for gutters.
- The gutter is checked and debris around the joints cleared.
Before we arrive
- On commercial sites, let us know about site rules
- Clear items away from the joints we are working on
- Mention if the joints have been sealed before
