Gutter sealing in Clouston
Water dripping from a gutter joint can stain walls and soak the ground below. Often a reseal is enough, as long as the gutter is sound. We’re often asked to deal with internal damp traced to a gutter joint and quick sealant fixes on gutters that didn’t last, on garage door frames, roofline trims and gutter joints.
External sealant needs dry surfaces, so outdoor work around Clouston is planned around the weather. Tell us how to reach each wall, gutter and roofline.
You are covered for a year from the day we finish. If anything isn’t right with it, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Outside joints around Clouston
Clouston is within about 1 mile of the coast, where wind-driven rain is a fact of life and, nearer the shore, so is salt air. Both are hard on gutter, fascia and roofline joints, which can dry out and crack sooner where a building faces the weather. Work on the islands has to be planned around ferry crossings and the weather, so the more notice, the better.
In and around Clouston, as anywhere, good gutter sealing starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint. For an older house near a landmark such as Stenness Church, older walls, gutters and the joints where extensions meet them need a flexible sealant.
Clouston is about 9 miles west of Kirkwall, in the Orkney Islands. Clouston gets the same service as everywhere we cover: the old material taken out, joints prepared properly and a 12-month guarantee. We cover 51 towns and villages across the Orkney Islands.
Here we cover the KW16 postcode area for gutter sealing. Other places close to Clouston include Stenness (1 mile north-east), Cairston (2 miles west), Grimeston (2 miles north), Germiston (3 miles east) and Wasbister (3 miles north-west). Remote and island addresses need a little more planning, so tell us where you are when you ask for a quote.

Clouston questions
Can you do gutter sealing in Clouston?
Yes, Clouston is within the area we cover. We work across all of Scotland. You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us what needs doing, and we’ll give you a clear price.
Is Clouston within the area you cover?
Yes, Clouston is covered. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, islands included, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.
Is gutter cleaning part of the job?
We clear debris around the joints we’re sealing. A full clean of the gutters isn’t part of it.
Can tenants book the work?
Yes. Ask your landlord first, and we can send them the quote if that helps.
Will you leave a mess?
No. The area is protected while we work and cleaned up afterwards.
Can you seal fascia and soffit joints?
Yes. Open joints along uPVC fascias and soffits can be sealed in a matching colour.
Are you an approved applicator?
Yes. We’re approved under the ARBOMaster scheme, which is run for the Arbo sealant brand.
Do you work on high-level gutters?
Low gutters are simple to reach. For higher work, tell us about access and we will confirm what’s needed.
Landlord and commercial work in Clouston
We work for landlords and agents as well as householders. Sealant work between tenants is a simple way to keep a property in good order before the next move-in.
Hotels need rooms back in use, so the work can be planned room by room around your bookings where we can. We have worked in hotels as well as homes and businesses.
When it is not the sealant
It helps to know what we cannot do:
- Guttering that needs replacing
- Brackets that have snapped or loosened
- Leaks from the roof rather than a joint
Not sure which it is? You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will tell you honestly before booking.

The process
Before we leave, we go over the finished joints with you. The visit itself generally takes an hour or two for a few joints, longer for a full run, depending on the size of the job. Around Clouston, distance and access matter more than parking. Tell us how to find the property and how to reach the work, and the visit is planned around that.
- First we trace the drip and check the gutter is not damaged.
- The old sealant and dirt are cleaned out of the joint.
- We dry the joint so the new sealant can bond.
- We seal the joint with a sealant made for gutters.
- We check the run and clear debris near the joints.
How to prepare
- Where the joints are inside, avoid wetting them before we arrive
- Let us know about earlier repairs to the joints
- Clear items away from the joints we’re working on

Advice
Why it’s worth doing now in Clouston
Replacing guttering is a much bigger job than sealing joints. If the gutter is sound and the drip is a joint, resealing is the sensible fix. If it has failed, we’ll tell you. In a place like Clouston, small leaks are easy to put off, but water through a failed joint keeps working away until it’s fixed.
Commercial jobs are quoted on the same basis as homes: the amount of work, the access and the products needed, along with when we can work on site. Ask us for a quote and we’ll go through it with you.

What affects the quote in Clouston
Some jobs are bigger than they look, and some smaller. What affects the quote:
- How many rooms, windows or areas are involved
- Any mould that needs treating
- The product the joint needs
- Whether the work is at height
A few things move the cost up or down: the old material and how easily it comes out, whether mould needs treating, and whether we need extra access for height. We take all of that into account in your quote.
Helping us quote
There’s no need for technical detail. Just tell us:
- Whether it has been sealed before
- What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking
- If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel
- Where the property is
If you are in Clouston and need gutter sealing, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk. Tell us what the problem is and where, and we’ll agree the price before any work begins.
DIY sealant or a professional job?
Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. New silicone won’t bond to old, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. Everything old must be removed first.
Overfilling a joint is a classic DIY mistake. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and does not move well, and the joint depth matters as much as the finish.
