About our gutter sealing in Alness

A drip at a gutter joint is easy to ignore, but each shower sends water to the same place. Resealing it is a small job while the gutter is still sound. Typical jobs include water dripping where gutter sections meet and old gutter sealant that has let go, on soffit joints, roofline trims and uPVC fascias.

Outside joints can only be sealed when they’re dry, so work in Alness depends on the weather, and longer journeys are planned in advance. Let us know about access to every wall and roofline.

Each job carries a 12-month guarantee.

uPVC fascias

Gaps in fascias spoil the roofline. A neat bead closes them up.

Garage door frames

Failed sealant around a garage door frame lets water in. It’s removed and renewed.

Your questions about gutter sealing in Alness

Will you come out to Alness?

Yes. Alness is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

I let a flat near Alness station. Can you help?

Yes. We work for landlords and agents as well as householders. Just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with the address and what needs doing, and we will send you a clear quote.

Can a leaking gutter joint be sealed?

Most of the time. If the gutter is sagging or cracked, sealing will not last and we’ll say so.

Is sealing fascia joints something you do?

Yes. Our work is the joints, and if a board is damaged, we’ll tell you.

Can sealant stop a sagging gutter leaking?

Sealant won’t hold a sagging gutter. A gutter installer needs to refix it.

Are you ARBOMaster approved?

Yes. We’re approved under the ARBOMaster scheme.

Will you clear out my gutters?

We clear debris around the joints we’re sealing. A full clean of the gutters is not part of it.

Is there any odour?

There can be a smell while the sealant cures. Ventilation helps.

Should I try it myself first?

If you’ve already had a go yourself, that is fine. We cut it out and start again, so tell us about it when you ask for a quote.

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. New silicone won’t bond to old, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. Everything old must be removed first.

What we’re called out for in Alness

Sealant laid on a wet or dirty joint fails early. Rushed repairs often don’t last long for this reason.

Signs it’s time to call us include:

  • Old sealant on roofline trims that has split
  • Internal damp traced to a gutter joint
  • Dripping gutter ends
  • Failed sealant on a garage door frame

Letting a property close to Alness station? Then a dripping gutter joint or loose fascia trim is easy to miss until damp shows inside.

Questions to ask before booking

  • Whether all the old sealant comes out first
  • What the cure time is
  • What guarantee comes with the work
  • How the surfaces are prepared before sealing

Outside joints around Alness

Alness is within about 2 miles of the coast, where wind-driven rain is a fact of life and, nearer the shore, so is salt air. That’s hard on gutter, fascia and roofline joints, especially on the side facing the sea. Private landlords in Scotland must meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping a home wind and watertight, and failed outside joints work against that.

Schools such as Alness Academy are buildings too, and larger buildings have long runs of movement joint that eventually need resealing. If you live in an older home near Rosskeen Parish Church, the joints between older walls, newer extensions and the roofline need a sealant that can move.

Alness is about 16 miles north of Inverness, in Highland. Our applicators cover gutter sealing for homes and businesses in Alness and the surrounding area. Our area takes in 253 places across Highland, large and small.

Postcode districts we cover here for gutter sealing: IV17. If you need gutter sealing at a property on High Street, Market Street and Averon Road or anywhere close by, we can help. Being close to the B817, Alness is easy for our applicators to reach. Neighbouring places we cover for gutter sealing include Dalmore (1 mile south-east), Invergordon (3 miles east), Cullicudden (4 miles south), Evanton (4 miles south-west) and Saltburn (4 miles east). Island and remote addresses take a little more planning, so tell us where you are when you ask for a quote.

Why deal with it now?

A dripping stop end can soak the wall right through the wet months. It’s a small job to put right before the damage spreads. In a place like Alness, small leaks are easy to put off, but water through a failed joint keeps working away until it’s fixed.

Rather than a set price list, we look at what your job involves: how many joints, what’s in them now and how we reach them. You will know the price before we begin.

Aftercare tips

A little care helps the new joints last. We recommend:

  • Get a dropping gutter looked at quickly
  • Watch the wall under the gutters for staining
  • Rest ladders on the wall, not the gutter
  • Check fascia and soffit joints for gaps

While checking gutters, glance at the fascia joints too. A small split is quicker to put right.

Leaking gutter joints get worse over time. The same spot gets soaked every time it rains and that can cause damp inside.

Quotes for gutter sealing in Alness

We don’t publish a price list, because jobs vary so much. The quote depends on:

  • The number and length of the joints
  • Any mould that needs treating
  • The number of rooms or windows
  • Which sealant suits the joint

The cost reflects the work involved, not guesswork. That’s why we ask a few questions first and give you a clear quote before any work starts.

What to tell us for a quote

You don’t need to know the technical terms. It helps if you can tell us:

  • Where the job is, and your postcode
  • Whether it has been sealed before
  • Pictures of the joints, sent by email
  • If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel

Every job is quoted individually. Just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk with the details, and photos are welcome.

How it works

Good joint work is mostly preparation, and we don’t rush it. Every joint is cleaned and dried before new material goes in. All told, the work takes anything from an hour or two to a few hours. For a place like Alness, longer drives are planned in advance. Tell us about tracks, gates, a ferry crossing or anything unusual about getting there.

  1. First we trace the drip and check the gutter isn’t damaged.
  2. We remove the old sealant and clean the joint.
  3. The joint is dried before sealing.
  4. A gutter sealant is applied to the joint.
  5. The gutter is checked and debris around the joints cleared.

Preparing for the visit

  • Keep pets and children clear of the area while we work
  • Mention any sign-in or site rules at work premises
  • Tell us about access, such as stairs, a lift or high-level joints
