Specialist glazing silicone for Redding: the right sealant, proper preparation and a neat finish. Ask us for a quick quote.
- Rooflight joints letting water in
- A quick top-up bead that didn’t last
- Water running down inside the glass
How we handle glazing silicone in Redding
Glass, frames and walls all move at different rates, and the silicone between them takes the strain. When it cracks or lets go, water gets in. We replace it with a glazing silicone that suits the glass and frame. We work on shower screens, conservatory frames and glass-to-glass joints, and the jobs we see most are leaks from the base of a shower screen and failed sealant around rooflight glass.
Mastic can only go onto a dry joint, so outside work in Redding depends on the weather. Tell us about access to all the windows and doors, upstairs included.
Every job is covered by a one-year guarantee.

When it is not the sealant
Honest advice matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what new sealant will not do:
- A frame that needs repairing or replacing
- Failed flashing around a conservatory
- Misting between the panes of a double-glazed unit (a failed unit for a glazier)
If in doubt, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll say what we think.
What we seal
- Shower screens
- Glass-to-frame joints
- Conservatory frames
- Glass-to-glass joints
- Rooflights
- Glass balustrade bases
How it works
Once we’re on site, we compare the joints with what we discussed. If we find something unexpected, we talk it through with you first. Most jobs then take a few hours for most jobs. For a place like Redding, longer drives are planned in advance. Mention tracks, gates, ferries or anything else about the route.
- We find where water is getting in and check whether it’s a sealant joint.
- Old silicone is cut away from the glass and frame without scratching either.
- Surfaces are cleaned with a solvent suited to glass and the frame.
- Glazing silicone suited to the joint is applied and tooled.
- We check the joints and, where safe, run water over them.
Getting ready for the visit

- For indoor joints, keep the area dry beforehand if you can

How to look after the new joints
To keep the joints looking good and working properly:
- Act on drips or damp patches early
- Avoid scraping close to the bead
- Check the silicone on glass every year or so
- Check the gutters above the glazing for debris
Check the joints once a year. Catching a split early keeps the repair small.
Damp patches, drips and condensation along a joint are worth checking. The cause may be sealant or another part, and we will tell you which.
Redding: your questions answered
Can you help a landlord with a rental near Polmont station?
Yes, we work for landlords and letting agents. Just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us about the property, and we’ll give you a clear price.
Do you cover smaller places like Redding?
Yes, we do. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.
Do you seal glass balustrade bases?
We can, if the base joint is sealed. Photos help us see what’s there when you email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk.
Do you have insurance?
Yes. We’re fully insured, with over 20 years’ experience in sealant work.
Do I have to be there?
That depends on where the joints are. Inside work needs someone to give us access.
What sealant do you use?
The product depends on the job: sanitary silicone where it gets wet, and sealants suited to movement or weather elsewhere. We use products from Arbo and Everbuild.
Which silicone is used for glass joints?
We use a neutral-cure glazing silicone suited to glass and the frame. In bathrooms, we use anti-fungal silicone.
Do you work for hotels and businesses?
Yes. We work in offices, washrooms, hotels and other commercial premises. Working times can be discussed when we quote.

When to call us in Redding
Sealant laid over old sealant doesn’t last. Many failed joints we see have been topped up rather than cut out, and water gets between the layers.
The most common problems we see are:
- Cracked silicone between glass panels
- Leaks where conservatory glass meets the frame
- A quick top-up bead that didn’t last
- Mouldy sealant around glass panels
Managing a site like Graeme High School? Then larger buildings have plenty of frames, and the mastic around each one ages.
Comparing quotes
- Which sealant they’ll use, and why
- Who does the work, and how experienced they are
- Are they insured?
- How the colour is chosen
Different surfaces, different methods
Conservatory frames
Exposed frame joints wear with the weather. Renewed sealant keeps water out.
Rooflights
Water around a rooflight is not always the sealant. We check which it is.
Glazing silicone in Redding: local notes
Private landlords in Scotland must meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping a home wind and watertight, and sound outside sealant is part of that. Sash and case windows are common in older Scottish homes, and the joint between the box frame and the stone or render is traditionally pointed with sand mastic.
In the older streets around Brightons Parish Church, replacement windows fitted into old openings often leave uneven gaps that need backing and a flexible joint. If you let a flat or house near Polmont station, a shower screen or conservatory joint that leaks is easier to reseal while the property is empty.

DIY versus a professional finish
If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.
Some jobs are best left to a professional: work at height, external movement joints, fire-rated sealant and large areas call for the right materials, safe access and experience.
