About our glazing silicone in Raploch

Frameless shower screens rely on sealant to keep water in. The joint down the wall and the one along the tray are common leak points, and we reseal both. We’re often asked to deal with stained, discoloured glazing silicone and drips on the inside of a conservatory window, on glass-to-frame joints, glass balustrade bases and rooflights.

Mastic can only go onto a dry joint, so outside work in Raploch depends on the weather, and longer journeys are planned in advance. Tell us about access to all the windows and doors, upstairs included.

Every job comes with our 12-month guarantee.

Glazing silicone in Raploch: local notes

Many older homes in Scotland have sash and case windows, and the joint between the box frame and the stone or render is traditionally pointed with sand mastic. Under the Repairing Standard, private landlords in Scotland have to keep homes wind and watertight, and sound outside sealant is part of that.

If you let a flat or house near Stirling station, leaking glazing joints, shower screens or conservatory seals are worth sorting between tenancies.

Raploch is about 1 mile north of Stirling, in Stirling. Jobs in Raploch get the same care as everywhere else we work: old sealant removed completely, careful preparation and a 12-month guarantee. FAQs for Raploch

Is Raploch in your area for glazing silicone?

Yes. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, and Raploch is part of that. Just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job.

Is Raploch within the area you cover?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

Will resealing stop my conservatory leaking?

If the water is coming in through failed sealant joints, yes. If it’s a broken panel, failed unit or roof problem, we will tell you.

Will there be a smell?

Some sealants have a smell while they cure. Ventilation helps.

Is a special sealant needed for glass?

A neutral-cure glazing silicone suited to glass and the frame. Shower screens get anti-fungal silicone.

Will it make a mess?

No. We protect the surfaces around the joints, and we clear up the old sealant and our materials before we leave.

Do you reseal glass shower screens?

Yes. We remove the old silicone carefully before cleaning and resealing.

Are you insured?

Yes. Full insurance covers our work, and we can confirm the details when we quote.

Leave it or put it right?

Glazing joints need a sealant made for the job. General-purpose sealant from a DIY shop may not suit glass or the frame, so we use neutral-cure glazing silicone. When the nearest tradesperson is a drive away, it’s tempting to leave a small leak, but water behind a failed seal does the most damage when nobody’s watching.

There are no prices on our website, because the cost depends so much on the job itself. Call for a quick quote.

How we quote for glazing silicone

Call for a quick quote. What matters most is:

  • The type of sealant required
  • Whether the work is at height
  • Whether there’s mould to deal with
  • When we can work, for business premises

Rather than a set price list, we price the job in front of us: how many joints, what’s in them now and how we reach them. You’ll know the price before we begin.

Helping us quote

A few details help us give you an accurate quote. When you get in contact, it helps to mention:

  • Any previous sealing or DIY work
  • Photos by email, if that is easy
  • The address or postcode of the job
  • Roughly how big the job is

We do not publish a price list. Instead, we give you a clear price for your job. To get started, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Can I do it myself?

What a professional job adds is preparation and the right product. Joints are cleaned back to sound surfaces and dried, and the sealant is matched to the joint and its conditions, and the work is guaranteed for a year.

A careful DIYer can reseal a simple joint, such as a straightforward joint indoors. Where it goes wrong is sealing over the old bead, working on a wet joint or overloading the gap.

Different surfaces, different methods

Rooflights

Rooflight leaks can come from the sealant or the roof. We check which it is.

Shower screens

Most shower screen leaks come from the wall or tray joint. Both are resealed with anti-fungal silicone.

The process

On the day, there’s very little for you to do. Show us the job and we will take it from there. The work itself takes anything from an hour or two to most of a day, depending on the size of the job. Around Raploch, distance and access matter more than parking. Let us know how to find you and how to reach the joints.

  1. First, we check where the water gets in.
  2. The failed silicone is cut out without marking the glass or frame.
  3. The joint is cleaned and degreased.
  4. We lay the new bead and tool it smooth.
  5. Each joint is checked and, where possible, water-tested.

Preparing for the visit

  • Mention any parking rules near the property
  • Tell us about any water getting in
  • Clear items away from the joints we are working on

Advice

Do you need glazing silicone in Raploch?

Heat and cold make glass and frames move, and they don’t move by the same amount. In time, the sealant splits or pulls away.

Keep an eye out for any of the following:

  • Sealant that was laid over old silicone and failed
  • Water getting into a conservatory at the joints
  • Mouldy sealant around glass panels
  • Drips on the inside of a conservatory window

If you look after a building such as Wallace High School, its window and door frames need their mastic kept sound, just like a home’s.

Before you book anyone

  • How the colour is chosen
  • What happens if the job turns out different
  • Is VAT in the price?
  • When the joint can take water or movement

How to choose a mastic man

How to look after the new joints

Aftercare is simple, and it makes a real difference:

  • Ventilate the conservatory to cut condensation
  • Don’t leave a drip for the next storm
  • Check the gutters above the glazing for debris
  • Use gentle products around the joints

Clear the conservatory gutters regularly, so water drains away from the joints. Overflowing gutters can cause leaks of their own.

A small conservatory leak soon spreads. Water travels along the frame and into the wall so it’s best dealt with right away.
