Glazing silicone for Nettlecombe homes and businesses

How we handle glazing silicone in Nettlecombe

Across Nettlecombe, we reseal glazing joints in homes, offices and hotels. From conservatories to shower screens, it’s the same careful method, with a sealant chosen for the joint. We work on glass balustrade bases, glass-to-glass joints and rooflights, and common reasons people get in touch are leaks where conservatory glass meets the frame and water escaping where a screen meets the wall.

Outdoor sealant needs dry, clean surfaces, so work on frames around Nettlecombe is planned for dry weather. Let us know about access to all the frames, upstairs ones included.

A one-year guarantee comes as standard, so you’re covered after we’ve gone.

Shower screens

Mouldy or lifting sealant on a screen leaks. Cutting it out and resealing fixes it.

Conservatory frames

Leaks often start where the frame meets the wall. We remove the failed sealant and renew it.

Nettlecombe questions

Do you work for landlords with property near Shanklin station?

Yes. We work for landlords and letting agents as well as householders. You can phone 0345 464 0079 or send us an email with the details for a clear quote.

Will you come out to Nettlecombe?

Yes. Nettlecombe is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our work covers London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

Which products do you use?

Quality sealants from brands including Arbo and Everbuild, picked for each joint. We explain the product when we quote.

How long will you be here?

Most jobs take a few hours for most jobs. We will confirm how long when we quote.

Can I do it myself?

For a simple, easy-to-reach joint, a careful DIYer can do a reasonable job. Most DIY failures come from sealing over old material, wet joints or too much sealant.

Is a special sealant needed for glass?

A glazing-grade silicone is best. We use neutral-cure glazing silicone and anti-fungal silicone in wet areas.

Will resealing stop my conservatory leaking?

In many cases, as long as sealant is the cause. We trace the leak first before any sealing.

Can you quote for more than one area?

Of course. Doing several areas at once is normally more efficient, so mention them when you ask for a quote.

DIY sealant or a professional job?

If you’re set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it does not work out, we can still put it right.

What a professional job adds is preparation and the right product. We take joints back to clean, dry surfaces, and the sealant is chosen for how the joint moves and where it is.

Frames and glazing around Nettlecombe

Nettlecombe is within about 2 miles of the coast, and homes near the sea take more wind-driven rain, with salt in the air closer to the shore. Both are hard on glazing joints and frame seals, which can dry out and crack sooner where a building faces the weather. London and the South East are among the drier parts of the UK, but outside sealant still needs a dry, clean surface, so outdoor work is planned around the forecast.

In the older streets around Water Hydrant Opposite Parish Church, the windows may be timber, sash or later replacements, and each needs the right sealant against the wall. Letting a property close to Shanklin station? Then leaking glazing joints, shower screens or conservatory seals are worth sorting between tenancies.

Aftercare tips

Looking after new joints is easy, and it makes a real difference:

  • Don’t use a blade near the sealant
  • Open vents or windows to let moisture out
  • Keep harsh solvents off the silicone
  • Clean glass with a mild cleaner and a soft cloth

Squeegee a shower screen after each shower and keep the room ventilated. It helps stop mould getting into the silicone.

Drips or damp near a glazing joint shouldn’t be ignored. The cause may be sealant or another part, and we will tell you which.

When it isn’t the sealant

We will always be straight with you, so here’s what sealant can’t fix:

  • Rotten or badly damaged frames
  • Cracked or broken glass
  • Leaks from the roof covering or flashing (a roofer’s job)

Not sure which it is? You can call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and we’ll tell you honestly before booking.

What affects the quote in Nettlecombe

Your quote is based on your job. We look at:

  • Mould in or behind the old joints
  • Which sealant suits the joint
  • How much old sealant there is and how hard it is to remove
  • Working hours on commercial sites

Commercial jobs are quoted on the same basis as homes: the amount of work, the access and the products needed, along with when we can work on site. Call for a quick quote and we will go through it with you.

What we need to know

When you contact us, it’s useful to know:

  • Where the job is, and your postcode
  • Access, such as stairs, a lift or height
  • The problem you’ve noticed
  • If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel

Getting a quote is simple: let us know the job and the location, and roughly how big it is. A few photos by email make the job easier to understand.

Leave it or put it right?

Replacing windows or a shower screen isn’t needed for a failed joint. Sound glass and frames generally just need resealing. Around Nettlecombe, older homes often have timber in their floors and frames, and water through a failed joint can rot timber if it’s left.

Leaving a failed joint usually makes the job bigger, not smaller, because water and mould keep working on it. If you are not sure whether it needs doing, ring 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email for an honest opinion and a quote.

What we do, step by step

On the day, there’s very little for you to do. Point us to the joints and we’ll get on with it. The job generally takes a few hours, depending on how many joints need doing. Somewhere as small as Nettlecombe, access is often the only tricky part. If the job is outside, mention outbuildings, exposed walls and how to reach them.

  1. We trace the leak and confirm it’s a sealant joint.
  2. The failed silicone is cut out without marking the glass or frame.
  3. We clean the glass and frame so the new silicone bonds.
  4. We lay the new bead and tool it smooth.
  5. Each joint is checked and, where possible, water-tested.

  • Mention if the joints have been sealed before
