Trusted glazing silicone in Mossblown

Glazing silicone in Mossblown, done properly

We do not replace glass, and misting between panes means a failed sealed unit. Our work is the sealant joints and that’s often where the water gets in. Common call-outs are for mouldy sealant around glass panels and cracked silicone between glass panels, on rooflights, shower screens and glass balustrade bases.

Mastic can only go onto a dry joint, so outside work in Mossblown depends on the weather, and longer journeys are planned in advance. Let us know about access to every frame, including any upstairs.

Your job is guaranteed for a year, as with all our work.

What happens on the day

Before we leave, we go over the finished joints with you. 1. First we agree the joints to be done.
  2. Old sealant is removed from the glass and frame.
  3. The surfaces are cleaned with a suitable solvent.
  4. New glazing silicone goes in and is finished neatly.

Advice

What the job involves on each surface

Glass-to-glass joints

Frameless glass corners and panels are joined with silicone. We renew it with a clear or matching glazing silicone.

Shower screens

Most shower screen leaks come from the wall or tray joint. Both are resealed with anti-fungal silicone.

Landlords, agents and businesses in Mossblown

Mouldy or split sealant often shows up at the end of a tenancy, and it’s easy to sort out between tenants. Several properties can be quoted together.

A neglected joint can let water reach the structure, which matters even more when someone else lives there. Resealing at the right time is simple maintenance.

When it isn’t the sealant

In fairness, there are a few things sealant will not fix:

  • Failed flashing around a conservatory
  • Cracked or broken glass
  • Structural problems with a conservatory roof

If you are not sure, just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll give you a straight answer.

Questions from Mossblown

Do you work for landlords with property near Prestwick Town station?

Yes. We work for landlords and letting agents as well as homeowners, and several properties can be quoted together. You can drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk with the details for a clear quote.

Can you do glazing silicone in Mossblown?

Yes, Mossblown is within the area we cover. We work across all of Scotland. You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us what needs doing.

Can you just put new silicone over the old?

Silicone doesn’t stick to silicone and water gets between the layers. The old bead always comes out first.

Can you do several jobs on one visit?

Yes, and it often makes sense. Combining jobs makes good use of the visit, so mention them when you ask for a quote.

Do you do commercial work?

Yes. Commercial and hotel work is a large part of what we do, as well as homes. We can talk about working times when we quote.

What sealant do you use?

It depends on the joint: anti-fungal sanitary silicone in wet areas, and other sealants where joints move or face the weather. Brands we use include Arbo and Everbuild.

Can you replace a misted double-glazed unit?

Glass replacement is not our trade. We reseal the joints around it and can tell you if a unit seems to have gone.

Are you ARBOMaster approved?

Yes. We’re an ARBOMaster approved applicator, the approved applicator scheme for Arbo sealants.

Frames and glazing around Mossblown

Mossblown is in the west of Scotland, which is wetter than the east, which means glazing joints and frame seals has to cope with a lot of rain. Many older homes in Scotland have sash and case windows, often pointed into the wall with traditional sand mastic.

Letting a property close to Prestwick Town station? Then a shower screen or conservatory joint that leaks is easier to reseal while the property is empty. If you look after a building such as Drumley House School, its window and door frames need their mastic kept sound, just like a home’s.

Quotes for glazing silicone in Mossblown

Every job gets its own quote. This is what makes a difference:

  • Whether the work is at height
  • Mould in or behind the old joints
  • The size of the job
  • How many areas need sealing

The cost depends on the size of the job, how much old material has to come out and how easy the joints are to reach. We give a clear quote before work begins.

Helping us quote

When you contact us, it’s useful to know:

  • Pictures of the joints, sent by email
  • How many joints, rooms or windows are involved
  • Whether it has been sealed before
  • Access, such as stairs, a lift or height

A good description makes for an accurate quote. Let us know the location, the problem and roughly how many joints, and add photos by email if you can.

Can I do it myself?

The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. New silicone won’t bond to old, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. All the old material has to come out first.

A DIY attempt doesn’t rule out a professional job. We remove it and do the joint properly, so just mention it when you contact us.

Looking after it afterwards

Good habits help new joints last longer. A few tips:

  • Run a squeegee over the glass when you’re done
  • Keep scrapers and blades away from the silicone
  • Inspect the sealant on glazing annually
  • Ventilate the conservatory to cut condensation

On shower screens, wipe or squeegee after use and keep the room ventilated. That slows mould growth on the bead.

Drips or damp near a glazing joint shouldn’t be ignored. It may be sealant, or something else and we’ll find out which.
