Gillock Glazing Silicone
Our applicators work in Gillock on glazing silicone for conservatories, rooflights, glass panels and shower screens. Old sealant removed completely, joints prepared properly and every job guaranteed for a year.
- Water escaping where a screen meets the wall
- Leaks where conservatory glass meets the frame
- Silicone pulling away from the glass
Glazing silicone for homes and businesses in Gillock
Glass and frames expand and contract differently, and the silicone between them takes the strain. Once it splits or comes away, water finds a way through. We replace it with a glazing silicone that suits the glass and frame. If you’re dealing with water tracking down the inner face of the glass and new silicone smeared over old sealant, we can put it right.
Many older Scottish homes still have timber windows set into stone walls. Those suit a traditional sand mastic or a neutral-cure sealant, not an acetoxy silicone that can attack some stone.
Our work is backed for twelve months, and the guarantee is the same wherever you are.

DIY versus a professional finish
Some jobs are best left to a professional: work at height, external movement joints, fire-rated sealant and large areas need the right product, the right access and the right method.
If you are set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it does not work out, we can still put it right.

Keeping the joints in good condition
Looking after new joints is easy:
- Keep harsh solvents off the silicone
- Check the gutters above the glazing for debris
- Open vents or windows to let moisture out
- Avoid scraping close to the bead
Keep conservatory gutters clear so water does not back up against the seals. Overflowing gutters can cause leaks of their own.
Cracked glazing silicone means the joint has failed. Resealing now is a small job compared with fixing water damage later.
FAQs for Gillock
Can you do glazing silicone in Gillock?
Yes. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, and Gillock is part of that. You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us what needs doing.
Will you come out to Gillock?
Yes, Gillock is covered. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.
What sealant do you use on glazing?
A glazing-grade silicone is best. Ours is a neutral-cure glazing silicone and anti-fungal silicone in wet areas.
What do you need from me for a quote?
A short description and the location, plus pictures if you have them. We will ask anything else we need to know.
Do you have insurance?
Yes. We’re fully insured.
Are you ARBOMaster approved?
Yes. We’re ARBOMaster approved, the scheme for applicators of Arbo sealants.
Is balustrade sealant something you do?
We can, if the base joint is sealed. Photos help us see what’s there.
Can you replace a misted double-glazed unit?
We don’t replace glass. We reseal the joints around it, and we will tell you if a unit looks like it has failed.
Why act early in Gillock
A quick bead over the old sealant might stop a drip for a while, but silicone doesn’t stick to silicone and water soon finds its way back. Cutting out and resealing properly lasts. When the nearest tradesperson is a drive away, it’s tempting to leave a small leak, but water behind a failed seal does the most damage when nobody’s watching.
A few things move the cost up or down: the old material and how easily it comes out, whether mould needs treating, and whether we need extra access for height. We take all of that into account in your quote.

Advice
Work for landlords, hotels and businesses
Water getting past a failed joint can damage the building, which is a bigger problem in a rented property. Keeping joints in good order is simple maintenance that we can handle for you.
Letting agents often deal with us directly. Tell us the address, the job and how access works.
Surface by surface
Shower screens
Frameless screens rely on silicone at the base and wall. We reseal without scratching the glass.
Glass balustrade bases
We reseal the joint where the glass meets the base channel. Glass fitting is a separate trade.
Frames and glazing around Gillock
Sash and case windows are common in older Scottish homes, often pointed into the wall with traditional sand mastic. Private landlords in Scotland must meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping a home wind and watertight, and failed outside joints work against that.
If you let a flat or house near Georgemas Junction station, a shower screen or conservatory joint that leaks is easier to reseal while the property is empty.

Signs you need glazing silicone in Gillock
Not every leak is a sealant problem: failed roof panels, slipped glazing bars and blocked gutters cause them too. That’s why we trace the leak first.
The most common problems we see are:
- Mouldy sealant around glass panels
- Sealant that was laid over old silicone and failed
- Split or lifting silicone on glass
- Drips on the inside of a conservatory window
In and around Gillock, as anywhere, good glazing silicone starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.
