Floor joint sealing in Taplow
Floors move, and the joint where they meet a wall, skirting, threshold or another floor has to move with them. Skirting-to-floor gaps, tiled floor joints and concrete joints are all sealed. We’re often asked to deal with open joints around bathroom floor edges and floor edges that trap water and grime, across commercial floors, tiled floors and concrete floor joints.
Older homes in small places like Taplow often have timber floors that move with the seasons, so skirting and threshold joints need a flexible sealant rather than a rigid filler.
Big or small, you get the same 12-month guarantee in Taplow and across Windsor and Maidenhead.

Can I do it myself?
Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. New silicone will not bond to old, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. Everything old must be removed first.
Overfilling a joint is a classic DIY mistake. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and does not move well, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.
For landlords and businesses
Water getting past a failed joint can damage the building, which matters even more when someone else lives there. Keeping joints in good order is simple maintenance.
Failed sealant is one of the commonest items on a check-out report. We can quote for more than one property at once.
What happens if it’s left?
Leaving skirting gaps until the next decorating job lets dirt and draughts in. It’s a quick job to seal them now for most homes. Where a wall is exposed, as many are in small places like Taplow, wind-driven rain gets into any failed joint, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.
Leaving a failed joint generally makes the job bigger, not smaller. If you’re unsure, call 0345 464 0079 or email us and we will give you an honest view and a quote.

How it works
When we get to you, we compare the joints with what we discussed. If we find something unexpected, we talk it through with you first. Most jobs then take a few hours, depending on the length of joint. Somewhere like Taplow needs a little journey planning: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. We bring what the job needs, so it can be finished in one trip where possible.
- We start by looking at the floor, the gap and the traffic, then choose the product.
- Whatever is in the joint now, whether caulk, grout or sealant, comes out.
- We clean and vacuum the joint and fit backing where the depth needs setting.
- A flexible sealant, or a floor-joint sealant for concrete, is applied in a colour to suit.
- We tool the joint neatly and tell you when it can be walked on and cleaned.
How to prepare
- Mention any sign-in or site rules at work premises
- Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit
- Let us know if you’ve seen damp or leaks
How to get a quote

Joints and finishes in Taplow homes
Across Windsor and Maidenhead, floors range from older suspended timber floors to concrete slabs in newer homes and commercial units, and each moves in its own way. The joint at the skirting or threshold has to allow for that.
Managing a site like St Nicolas' Church of England Combined School? Then entrance and corridor floor joints take a lot of traffic. Community buildings like Church of St Nicolas are part of the picture too: joints in its floors, skirtings and thresholds need resealing as they wear.

What affects the cost of floor joint sealing
You will get a clear quote before we start. It takes into account:
- Any mould that needs treating
- Whether the work is at height
- How much old sealant there is and how hard it is to remove
- Working hours on commercial sites
Instead of a standard rate, we look at what your job involves: how many joints, what’s in them now and how we reach them. The price is agreed before we begin.
Helping us quote
What to tell us when you ask for a quote:
- Roughly how big the job is
- If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel
- Access, such as stairs, a lift or height
- If someone has resealed it before
Quotes start with a quick conversation. Tell us what’s wrong, where it is and how much there is, and we will talk you through what we’d do. Whenever you are ready, ring 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email.
Questions from Taplow
I let a flat near Taplow station. Can you help?
Yes, rental work is part of what we do. Just ring 0345 464 0079 or email us and tell us about the property, and we will give you a clear price.
Do you cover smaller places like Taplow?
Yes. Taplow is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our work covers London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.
Which products do you use?
It depends on the joint: anti-fungal sanitary silicone in wet areas, and other sealants where joints move or face the weather. We use products from Arbo and Everbuild.
What do you need from me for a quote?
Just the basics: where it is, what you’ve noticed and how we reach it. Then call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email.
Do I need to be at home?
It depends on the job. Inside work needs someone to give us access, and for outside work we’ll agree access with you when we book.
Can I do it myself?
You can, for simple jobs. The key is preparation: remove all the old material and work on a clean, dry joint. We can always put it right if it fails.
Do you seal kitchen plinths to the floor?
Yes. Wet-area floor joints are sealed with a flexible, water-resistant silicone.
How long before the joint can take traffic?
You’ll get the times before we go. That depends on the product, and walking on it usually comes before mopping or wheeled traffic.
Do you need floor joint sealing in Taplow?
Decorators’ caulk is often used along skirting because it’s cheap and paintable. It cracks where there’s movement or water.
The problems people normally mention when they call are:
- Perimeter joints in tiled floors filled with grout
- Failed joint filler in concrete floors
- Open joints around bathroom floor edges
- Cracked caulk along skirting in bathrooms and kitchens
Letting a property close to Taplow station? Then gaps at skirtings and thresholds are worth sealing between tenancies.
