Trusted floor joint sealing in Russland

What we do, step by step

There’s no need to move everything out before we come, just the space around the work. Everything nearby is protected, and the work takes a few hours for most rooms, longer for large commercial floors in most cases. In smaller Scottish places, parking is normally less of an issue than access and distance. Let us know how to find you and how to reach the joints.

  1. We start by checking the floor, the joint and what traffic it takes.
  2. We remove what’s in the joint now.
  3. We vacuum out the joint and add backing where the depth needs setting.
  4. The chosen sealant goes in, coloured to suit the floor.
  5. The joint is tooled neatly and the cure time explained.

Before we arrive

  • Clear items away from the joints we are working on
  • Let us know about earlier repairs to the joints
  • Let us know about parking restrictions

Floor joint sealing in Russland

A threshold joint has to cope with feet, movement and sometimes water. We use a flexible product that suits both floors in a colour to suit. We work on thresholds, wet room & bathroom floors and commercial floors, and people most often call us about rigid edge joints in tiled floors and worn sealant at door thresholds.

Timber frame is common in newer Scottish homes, and it settles over the first years, so skirting and floor joints can open up. In older homes, timber floors move through the year too.

Looking after it afterwards

After the cure time, these simple habits help:

  • Act on grout cracks that run in a straight line
  • Vacuum floor joints regularly to stop grit building up
  • Check the sealant is paintable before decorating
  • Avoid sloshing water against skirting

Keep heavy furniture from dragging across the joints. Dragging can tear the bead.

A tiled floor that cracks along a line will keep cracking until it can move. Adding a movement joint early can stop cracks spreading to the tiles.

DIY sealant or a professional job?

If you are set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it does not work out, we can still put it right.

The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. New silicone will not bond to old, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. All the old material has to come out first.

Surface by surface

Skirting boards

Skirting-to-floor joints are a regular job for us. We take out any cracked caulk before sealing so the new sealant bonds.

Tiled floors

When grout cracks along a straight line, the floor is telling you it needs to move. That line is converted to a flexible joint.

What we cannot put right

Before booking, it’s worth knowing the limits too:

  • Subfloor problems that need a flooring contractor
  • Movement too big for a sealant joint
  • Water getting under the tiles from elsewhere

Not sure which it is? You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will tell you honestly before you book.

Landlord and commercial work in Russland

Businesses can book us for washrooms, kitchens, offices and more. On commercial sites, working times can be discussed when we quote.

We work for landlords and agents as well as householders. Sealant work between tenants is a simple way to keep a property in good order.

Signs you need floor joint sealing in Russland

Concrete floor joints break down when traffic runs over open or failed joints. Hard wheels damage the joint edges and the joint gets wider.

Signs it’s time to call us include:

  • Skirting that has pulled away from the floor
  • Concrete floor joints that have broken down
  • Open joints around bathroom floor edges
  • Tiled floors with no room to move

Whether the job is in Russland itself or nearby, the right material for each joint matters as much as a neat finish.

What your quote should include

  • Is the old sealant removed completely?
  • How the surfaces are prepared before sealing
  • Who does the work, and how experienced they are
  • What happens if the job turns out different

Common questions in Russland

Is there a guarantee on floor joint sealing in Russland?

Every job comes with our one-year guarantee, wherever it is. We are fully insured, and an ARBOMaster approved applicator.

Can you do floor joint sealing in Russland?

Yes, Russland is within the area we cover. We work across all of Scotland. Just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job.

Should I try DIY first?

It depends on the job. Work at height, movement joints, fire-rated gaps and large areas are best left to a professional, while a short indoor joint may be within reach.

Do you offer different sealant colours?

In most cases you can choose. We’ll tell you which colours the right product comes in.

Will there be a smell?

Sometimes, a little. Any smell clears as the sealant cures.

Why does the gap under my skirting keep coming back?

Timber floors and skirting shrink and swell through the year. A flexible sealant closes the gap without cracking like caulk.

Will you leave a mess?

Very little: the area around the joints is protected first, and we tidy up before we go.

Do you use a paintable sealant?

If you tell us beforehand, yes. Joints that will be painted get a paintable product, and silicone elsewhere.
